SD state legislature voting to ban abortion
Rex Kickass replied to samclemens's topic in The Filibuster
I wish we could take a common sense, understanding, empathetic approach to these issues which are so clearly emotional. But the truth is that these are issues that are primarily public health and not political. So, it bothers me that people in government who want to outlaw abortion procedures also don't seem to find it a priority to make sure that people on life support can stay on life support without the funds to pay for it, provided that its the will of the person or their family. In at least one case, the decision was made to take a woman off life support while she was still conscious and responsive. Because she was terminal and because the money ran out. Stories like that make me want to cry. -
Carolla is down 90% from Stern's ratings. But it's not really a far comparison. They aren't starting with Howards audience. They're starting with no audience, and frankly little promotion. At least in New York. Nobody's promoting DLR who is IMHO just a placeholder.

Air America's New York station 1190 WLIB is starting to see some movement in the latest ratings. Their AQH (the amount of people listening in any average 15 minutes between 6 and midnight) went up from 27,800 to 34,300. Randi Rhodes is actually beating Sean Hannity in Men 25-54. That's pretty significant because target audience for talk is Men 25-64, and with Randi winning in a large part of that money demo is good news for WLIB. Btw, their meaningless 12+ share number is now up to a 1.6 (a 60% increase in the last six months.)

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) "NewsRadio" definitely comes to mind. Definitely, I think the show never got a chance with Jon Lovitz. Who I loved.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Are you referring to the song "Lady Picture Show", or the band that STP became after Scott Weiland left(the first time) and did his solo thing for a little while? Tiny Music... songs from the Vatican Gift Shop album. STP - Scott Weiland was Talk Show. Their single was Hello, Hello.

Cheney Persuaded to Retire After Mid-Terms

Remember when Cheney was supposed to be dumped from the ticket in 2004? -
STP's Tiny Music - but I still can't listen to Lady Picture Show. And I think I might get killed for this but: The Osmonds: One Bad Apple.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 12:16 PM) Rick Santorum runs a charity which has donated a whopping 40% of the money it has taken in over the last 4 years. Several people in his Congressional office have received decently large salaries from the charity. Don't forget about his PAC which actually only uses 20% of its contributions to fund candidates.

Bush was being talked about in 98, but his profile was pretty low. You had to be inside the beltway to hear about him being a contender. You might be right about dole. I definitely remember Kerry starting as the front runner, but by June of 03 he was deadweight, behind Dean and Wes Clark.
-
It's generally the case. In 1998, nobody was talking about W. In 1994, nobody was talking about Dole. In 1990, nobody was talking about Bill Clinton. In 2003, everyone thought Dean would be the nominee.

SD state legislature voting to ban abortion

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) Oh, I agree with you on that aspect. I was leaning more towards when the personal decision is made as to when the egg becomes a life. I haven't read all the posts in this thread.. anyone have a stance on eptopic (sp?)pregnancy...? When that is terminated, is that abortion also? Does the SD law make the ectopic pregnancy termination illegal as well? -
He'll run in 08, but he won't get anywhere.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Feb 25, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) I have 2 cousins and an uncle over there now, and a few more cousins in the various services that are stateside, so that is a moot point for me. My 13 year old son has also talked about wanting to join the air force since he wants to fly. I have no problems with that. As for the needed manpower, we would have more troops if there weren't groups actively doing anti-recruiting. If you think those groups haven't had an impact, you would be wrong. And for the funding, why does everything involve a tax increase with you libs? I for one don't think that the invasion was the best course of action. But the Murtha plan isn't very good either. We are there, we just can't 'redeploy'. Anything that looks like a loss, or a surrender, or that we are running away, will BE a loss because it will further embolden the enemy. Since we are there, lets win. I will be the first to say things haven't been run there as best they can be. Hindsight is always 20-20. How about some foresight? As for sending ME over there, I am a good shot, but with my knees, bad eyesight and torn rotator cuff, I don't think they would want me. Why do some people think that doing "everything we can" to win the war in Iraq doesn't necessarily mean a sacrifice on behalf of everyone in this country? Like slightly higher taxes per se. Most Democrats supported the war. Most Democrats got angry when they found out the President they trusted was wrong and might have lied. And I'd wager that most Democrats don't want to play politics when it comes to war - but when serious questions of judgment arise, the party in power refuses to do any serious investigations to clear up issues - and hold people responsible. A lot of the problems regarding this fight is that the party in power seems to have the "f*** you" mentality regarding openness, honesty and integrity in politics. It's a sad tradition in American politics - and one that needs to stop.

Ohio lawmaker to propose ban on GOP adoption

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) Knees gave out and retired a long time ago? So many jokes are trying to pop out of my mind they're all jammed up trying to get out of the door. -
The last President to win out of the Senate was JFK. I think the Dem who will get the nomination is someone that isn't really talked about much right now. And I don't think anyone is a shoo-in at the moment. Not even McCain.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) Unfortunately you are dead on right... I guess we have a place where even the Timos of posting can hang out... I'll have you know I'm more like the Ron Karkovice of posting. -
If the elections were held today, the GOP would lose five seats in the Senate.
