No you won't. Someone else will get blamed.

This article makes me uncomfortable.

Yeah, but didn't she say in public when they were getting engaged and she was the one being supported that she had no problem giving him half if they ever split up because its only fair and no way would that ever happen?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) Which is why I can't possibly imagine how that's his only premise for defending the deal. Where was he when CNOOC tried to buy Unocal and was forced to drop the bid after U.S. legislators threatened to block it? The reason that got dropped was because CNOOC was partially state controlled IIRC. So it stands to reason a state owned company would have the same worries and concerns.

George Bush made a good point on this fight today. That sounds right Democrat of him actually But the point he's neglecting to acknowledge is that this company is owned by a state that sponsored terrorism. So even though I think he's still wrong - if this is his premise for defending the deal, I think its a pretty noble one.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) Because he can't admit to a mistake? Because he doesn't want to show weakness? Because he won't tell us the full story, including any backroom dealings with the Emirs? Because he's still not sure who killed Arthur Gwynn Geiger? My guess is because the regulatory decision never came to his desk. His people thought it was fine and he trusts his people's judgment. That's why they're his people.

QUOTE(samclemens @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) and that excuses his idiotic statement how? he's still a public official... Where did I excuse anything? The question was asked how San Fransisco would elect a guy who says the US shouldn't have a military. My answer was - because San Fransisco city administrators don't run militaries.

Short answer No. Long answer Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I think it will never come to a vote. And I think Bush peels off 35 GOP anyway.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) Maybe because City Supervisors don't have to run the military? Not defending, just saying. A City Supervisor doesn't deal with the Military - so its a fair bet that in a municipal election things like the Iraq war don't really come up.

A new spin on the "myth" of Abramoffs Democrats
Rex Kickass replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
It would be interesting to see a year by year breakdown for this contributions and see if there was a levelling off or plateauing of funding at any point. Do I think Abramoff dealt with some Democrats at some point in time? Absolutely. Did the interests he represent dealt with Democrats - of course they did. But that doesn't make their dealings, illegal or even improper. Abramoff is a GOP scandal because he's a GOP lobbyist. I'm sure there's a DEM lobbyist scandal waiting in the wings as well. If there isn't, it probably has a lot to do with the K Street Project and the avenues of influence that the Congressional leadership has actively encouraged over the past five years. Influence peddling has peaked I think at least for the Dems. The K Street Project may have been the best thing ever for the Democratic party. It's forced them to look for the rank and file for their fundraising support. The Dem fundraising that has been maligned by the GOP, has for the most part come from small donors - not big biz. Which is, a good thing. Here's to hoping that the GOP leadership realizes this and starts to do the same thing. -
Maybe because City Supervisors don't have to run the military?

There are few serious medical procedures that don't make you sick. It was my impression that these operations are pretty risky as it was... there are other safer ways to perform a late trimester abortion - as far as I know - which is admittedly, not much.

CrimsonWeltall on Presidents Day: -
QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) I will give hats off to 27 presidents. The rest can go f*** themselves. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE That's the funniest thing I've read in days.

QUOTE(minors @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) Wow I don't even know where to start. OK inhumane??? WTF what about the stuff these thugs do to innocent victims. Keeping them in prison fine tell the at least 9 victim's families that Ken McDuff killed after he was granted parole you can't guarantee these thugs will be locked up for good unless the DP is used. DNA evidence on the murder weapon is pretty conclusive evidence. The Death Penalty is case you have forgotten is in use in 38 out 50 states so I guess all the people that live in those states are blood thirsty as well.... Take it easy. We don't need to throw personal insults around here. Got it?

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) What is gained????? I just read your post and asked myself the same thing about that. Nothing was the answer that came up. What is gained by putting a man to death? Oh yeah, nothing. A guy locked in a cell for the rest of his life is equal to a dead man. However, if we're wrong about his conviction, we can always let the guy out of his cell.

You can always set a prisoner free. Until they can thaw out Walt Disney and make him draw Mickey Mouse again, I'm pretty sure if the state is wrong after the fact, there's not much the state can do to make it up to that person in particular.

Apple's market share in France increased to 2.6% last year. 2.1% world wide though. Some industry experts are seeing the possibility of 10 million Macs shipped this year after the intel switch, and increase of about 110-120% year to year. They have 0 debt. And they're 20 points off their high for the year. If I had the money to invest...

Actually Steroids doesn't bother me. If he wants to ruin his body, that's his thing. But the whole game is about unfair advantage. So roids - which doesn't necessarily make you a better player - is illegal. Why isn't lasik if you don't need it? Hitters are having that so they can turn their 20-20 or 20-25 vision into 20-10. There are all sorts of legal ways to get the competitive advantage that seem just as unfair to me as steroids. If one is legal, they all should be. I don't think he's more or less selfish than anyone else in baseball to be honest either. I just think he's a great hitter.

I think he will. And I hope he does.

QUOTE(juddling @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) If it were abortion protestors smashing the windows of abortion clinic workers houses, would is stil not be terrorism? Just asking, not accusing. Smashing windows is illegal. The motivation behind it "hate crime or terrorism or not" is irrelevant as to how illegal it is. To me its only relevant when determining sentence punishment. When we broaden the term Terrorism to include things like a smashed window, does that mean we're now fighting a war against petty vandalism?

Plus he slept with Ann Coulter. *holds nose*

That's not it. Dubai Ports World bought out a british company that runs the ports now, P&O Shipping out of the U.K. We just gave regulatory approval. The only problem I have with this deal is that the company is state owned. It's sort of like giving up a little sovereignty over these ports and I'm not really comfortable with that.
-
Yeah. I don't know why terrorism itself has to be illegal. Terrorism is the commitment of crimes anyway, why don't we just try them for that?
