  1. You wanna know how bad Belgium sucks? Let me tell ya, I went to Brussels and hostelled one night and had such a rotten time that I actually ran back to France the next morning. And I don't even like France that much.
  2. In other econ news, the dollar is sliding because South Korea is starting to dump dollars in its reserve, and consumer confidence dipped too.
  3. I was on the tennis team for an hour in high school.
  4. Belgium sucks. They got good beer, fries and some music. You can have the rest.
  5. Only if you replaced them with "Delta Dawn" by Helen Reddy.
  6. :rolly Moderates. Honestly, you're right Tex.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) Humor is a difficult area to work in. It is a built in coping mechanism. If we can laugh at something we lose our fear, our sadness, our aggravation. Watching the Comedy Channel for any length of time is enough to convince me that everything is funny to someone and everything can be insulting to someone. She might be trying to convert you, but it's only to get her hands on your Barbara Streisand signed copy of Guilty with Barry Gibb And I thought it was for my original vinyl copy of Baby I'm A Want You by Bread.
  8. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 08:27 AM) edit: and just because you find one gay joke funny and not another doesn't make that gay joke not funny. If we have to pass humor through that kind of filter then this place will be ridiculously boring. futhermore, I don't find "buddy Jesus" funny, but I don't go seeking to ban people over it. I sit and discuss why it's not funny. If people make gay jokes, whatever. But I think there's an obvious line between an attempt at humor and just being insulting/derogatory. And that goes for nearly everything. Oh and Tex, she'll still be trying to convert me anyway so don't get your hopes up.
  9. I thought the Superbowl episode was a classic. "Woah! That's good satire!"
  10. Web commercial for AARP bashing group USA Next on American Spectator (conservative mag) website. This is the attack on the AARP because of their opposition to Social Security. I thought this was a prank at first - but this is real.
  11. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) btw, how bad is my Spanish? You bastard. I'm thinking about renaming this thread "Catch all Coffee Table Licking Thread" Shut up that's why x3.
  12. The last time I checked, calling something gay on this board isn't illegal. If you do it in an insulting manner on this board, you'll catch some flack. Not because you're gaybashing but mostly because there are so many better insults in the english language and some of us would like to see them used a bit more often. Especially since - when you take away the sexual connotation - you're just calling it happy and - seriously, that just doesn't make sense. Some of us are trying to take back the word and trying to not see it used as an insult. I'd also like to go on the record and say I don't mind gay jokes - as long as they're actually funny. Insults aren't funny. Unless you're Don Rickles and last time I checked, he don't post round here. And honestly, with me - for example - there are so many things better to insult me about like my unnatural obsession with Bea Arthur (one day I will bear her children) or my coffee table escapades (shut up, that's why). Now this doesn't mean that you can or should post ethnic or gay jokes here because some people probably will get offended and pissed off, and some of those people may happen to run things around there. And when you're in someone's house and you don't show the proper respect - you very often get shown the door. Unless you pay the bills for this website, you don't own it, and you're here only at their good graces. If you use common sense and respect and basic manners, you won't have a problem 99% of the time - especially on this board. If you don't, you probably spend too much time on the internet and not enough time interacting with people - so go to Starbucks and flirt with the barrista or barristette. And as for the whole gay as a choice thing someone brought up, I'm not gonna go there - cause I got a headache and I really don't like having to defend who I am to people who mostly won't change their minds about this anyway - so I'll just say this. I tried SO hard to be straight (How hard did you try?) I tried so hard that I still can't find my sense of style! PS. Selfdeprecation is always funny.
  13. Well then, which sanctions are you talking about? Because it seems that there were a lot of different sanctions passed by congress in the mid to late 90s.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 04:31 AM) Wasn't this one "Coffee table lickin' good"? Shut up, that's why!
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 18, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) Or to quote a famous coffee table licker "shut up, that's why!" Shut up, that's... oh. *shrug*
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) [insert coffeetable joke here..] Shut up, that's why.
  17. Actually, the sanctions bill of which you speak did not attack countries at all but rather companies. And it was unrelated to oil but rather weapons system related development. Clinton vetoed the sanctions because it was passed at the same time as the administration was negotiating with the Russian government to take care of the problem without damaging Russian-U.S. relations, somewhat important in a grander scheme of getting Russia to aid in moderating and pacifying an increasingly hostile Iranian government. Iranian oil was never really on the table - as I'm sure Vice President Dick Cheney would tell you. American companies were generally forbidden from doing business in Iran to begin with. Have been since the Reagan administration. However, some multinationals did do business with Iran through wholly owned subsidiaries based in other countries. While at the helm of Halliburton, Dick Cheney's company did just that - with multimillion dollar deals through Halliburton's wholly owned French subsidiary. I would argue that the worst foreign policy president that we've had in a long time would be the one we currently have. At least Bill Clinton recognized problems.

  19. 87 wins and the division title. The Sox will win one game in the division series. The best showing in the playoffs since 1983.
  20. El Duque's first pitch is brought to you by Welch's Grape Juice - as heard on Larry King and Paul Harvey! Gooood Day!
  21. Does the position of the starter really matter? If he's a quality starter and he's in a rotation - who cares if he's 3rd or 5th or 1st? More of a general baseball question I guess.
  22. It would be nice to see Frank get a long term, player/front office deal that ensures he stays with the Sox and in a couple years transitions into coaching staff or front office PR work.
