Yankees not alone in owing luxury tax
Rex Kickass replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
No. Market forces are just fine. Baseball is exempt from anti-trust laws which means that they can collude, so if they really want to set a ceiling, they oughta do it in the smokey back room and let the players get what they can get. Smart teams will find a way to win with the salary cap that they set. -
I think that would have come out during the 9/11 hearings, if it was indeed true. But the communications logs of FAA from 9/11 coupled with White House timelines tend to make the "shooting down" theory a lot more muddy. That and if you shot something down in the air, the debris field would likely be much larger than what you saw in Shanksville. The physics of what happened lend to the idea of disintegration. The "Ask the Pilot" guy on Salon.com had a real good explanation about why nothing was left there. He brought the science there, so to speak. Rumsfeld saying that the flight was shot down was probably an honest mistake, like when Cheney said he was moved by all the crosses at Arlington National Cemetery while flying over in Marine One. (The graves at Arlington are not marked with crosses, thats the big Allied cemetery in Normandy, France)

I thought real White Sox fans wanted the White Sox to win above all else.

Bo Jackson question for the long-time fans
Rex Kickass replied to BlizzardOfOzzie's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He also hit a rooftop shot at the old park during batting practice. In the Sox HOF gift shop/museum, they have the ball. I think Bo in a Sox uniform was worth it alone to see pictures of him running dragging his trainer behind him or a parachute or some other retarded thing. He was an asset to the clubhouse, more than on the field - and he was a steal, because of that degenerative hip thing. -
*insert gay innuendo themed joke here*

According to the 9/11 commission, they were several minutes away from any of the planes before they all hit the ground. Or the buildings.

No. That is completely without fact. Here's a list of the 20 largest circulation papers in the U.S. and who they endorsed. Kerry won the endorsement of ten, Bush won the endorsement of 6, and four of them could not endorse either. In Florida, Bush did not win the endorsement of any of the largest 6 or 7 papers in the state and papers that have historically backed Republican presidents chose to give no endorsement this year. I don't have the exact figures from Editor and Publisher, but according to them - Kerry got more actual endorsements than Bush and the circulation of Kerry's endorsements beat the circulation of Bush's endorsements handily. I'd gladly get you those, if you'd pay for me to subscribe to the E&P online.

I got this thing, where I pretend this one finger is a bird. Its pretty awesome. Here's a sample. :finger

No, read what I'm saying. The Republican party set about creating a new generation electoral machine in the mid 1980s. It has been phenomenally successful and knocked the Dems off their tracks. Since 2003, the Dems have been trying to recover by creating a new generation machine of their own. It takes time. The Dems had less money, but did improve their fundraising efforts in 2004. Once again, it takes time to turn weaknesses into strengths. Although, to be honest Tex, Kerry did have more newspaper endorsements than George Bush. Which is actually a relative rarity. Bush won the endorsement battle in 2000. And over the last 50 years, more newspapers have endorsed Republicans rather than Democrats.

I'd give anything to be just a plain old white American. I mean, really - it sucks being French, they keep making me wear berets and dress like a mime. It's really sad.

It helps when noone shows up. Less wear and tear. So remember next year, Save the Seats! Stay home!

I don't think it says much for either candidate. Bush and the GOP had a huge edge in 2004, with a message machine that's the most powerful in politics today. Something they've been building for the last 18 years since 1986 and the Gingrich founded GOPAC. It was only last year that Democrats started working to rebuild like the GOP did over the course of the 80s and 90s. Despite having less money, and less time to build an organization like the GOP, they got 48.3% of the vote and more votes than any other Presidential candidate besides George W Bush in history. (By the way, when the popular vote was all certified finally, Bush's popular vote share slipped slightly below 51% to 50.7%). Despite having the power of incumbency, Bush had the narrowest reelection victory for a president in 100 years, even though it was during a time of war. Kerry, on the other hand, failed to respond adequately to the attacks that were constantly piled on each candidate early in the campaign. He came on strong towards the end, but it was too little, too late. Being painted as ineffectual combined with Swift Boat and increased conservative turnout to pass "hate" amendments against equal rights for same sex couples ultimately doomed the Democratic standardbearer.

F.E.H. A secret that big couldn't be kept. However, it does make me wanna invest in Reynolds Wrap - because all those tinfoil hat people need something to cover their heads.

Detroit Wayne is God Awful, and their customs area is reminiscent of a third world country airport. You are randomly stopped by customs agents for no real reason, and you are crammed into a small area that's so packed, you can hardly figure out where the customs lines are. That plus 8.50 for a beer in the International Terminal lounge that looks like the Regal Beagle set from 3's Company... and it looks like it hadn't been dusted or cleaned since the show got cancelled either. The domestic terminals at O'Hare has become significantly less pleasant since 9/11 because increased security apparatus has made it much more difficult for passengers and families of ticketed passengers to move around in the main concourses. Plus, if you're waiting for family to arrive - its about impossible to get a drink in the damn place. The United terminal is not bad at all, although the security lines could be managed much better. In contrast, the International Terminal, which was built with security needs in mind during the mid 1990s, is about the best designed international airport I've ever flown in or out of, including JFK. Plenty of space for the passengers on both sides of the checkpoints, plenty of places to eat - and you can still get a 5 dollar beer, last time I checked. That and it has some of the closest parking to the terminal that you can get in the U.S.

Give it a week, then give them a call? They probably won't give you an address, for privacy purposes... BUT they might have you send your thing to them and act as an intermediary. If they accept the offer at all.

Andrew Sullivan, famous Libertarian blogger, just got a machine. He said it takes some getting used to, but the sleep that you get with it on is so. much. better. I briefly dated someone on one of those machines too at night. If he slept without it, he was tired in the morning, if he slept with it on, he woke up rested and refreshed.

How many people tell all when they are still employed? To be honest with you, its always "suspicious timing." If he had told all before November 2nd, would that have made the timing any less suspicious? He's not the first person who's said the HSD is full of problems. He's not the first person who's said that HSD isn't doing the right things to get this country safer. But he is one with a lot of credibility - the guy responsible for reporting these kind of problems. He did do that during his short tenure, and now he's out of a job. That's kind of suspicious too, dontcha think?

I totally agree Sox4Life, USA Today totally out to destroy our country.

There are lots of stories about the MoD, some good - some not so good. He was actually the first player I was ever a fan of, and got me noticing football as a kid. I still remember the Boys' Life cover I had of him when I was 8, he was standing leaning on a bulldozer. Part of the reason why it became easy for me to become a Packer fan after the Bears fired Ditka for Wannstedt.

I wonder if this is a conscious effort on the part of the Sox to make themselves a brand beyond Chicago. With Mr. Zero and the addition of a second Japanese league player, is this an attempt to expand the fan base past the Pacific Coast? And, is that a significant revenue stream for teams that already have that Japanese fan base - Yankees, Mariners?

Was just wondering if anyone has played and won there - and if they've paid out.
