QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) This is generally related. We as a nation are becoming a society of knee-jerkers. It's represented by our electors. You're correct. The President who makes snap judgments is considered "resolute." The Presidential candidate who said, we should think things out before making a decision, was considered "wishy-washy." But nobody seemed to worry about knee-jerk reactions when considering who would have their finger on the button for the next four years. And nobody worried about knee-jerk reactions when PATRIOT was rushed through Congress. And nobody worried about knee-jerk reactions when Congress wrote the President a blank check to do what he wanted in Iraq, without having to back it up. Well, Senator Byrd did. But he's old. Paul Wellstone did too. But he's dead.

There's a column in Salon.com by the Ask the Pilot guy that talks about how difficult it is to blind someone by a laser beam in a cockpit. The "temporary blinding" that they are talking about is more like the cockpit being briefly bathed in light rather than actual blinding. Although its not a great thing to do, this is hardly a sinister act. The guy shouldn't get off. But he shouldn't be spending 25 years in the pen because he was looking at the stars with his daughter and a glorified laser pointer.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) Sosa worshipping, homosexual, s*** eating ass clown is the best description of Mariotti I ever heard but I'll settle for yours. For the love of Jeebus, we don't want him. You breeders are stuck with Mariotti!

Drudge's Sirens are out tonight! The knives are out on the Gonzalez nomination. Senate Democrats on the Judicial Committee are saying Gonzalez is stonewalling when it comes to turning over documents related to his nomination.

So like the last four times Zarqawi was "arrested," turns out he wasn't. Damn.
-
Whoa, wait, Mr. Eye, we.... agree? I am so afraid right now.

I still think those "Thank You For Not Breeding" buttons are pretty funny.

You have to have proof of citizenship to be guaranteed reentry into the USA. Your Birth Certificate must be an original copy with a raised seal, if possible. It is the best situation, however, to have a passport. It makes a border crossing - so much easier. And assuming, you're over 21, they're good for 10 years at a time.

Who'da thought the Bush administration would want the Center Right wing party anywhere to lose? http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/03/opinion/...html?oref=login

Did you ever think that the Pentagon didn't get as much coverage because they didn't think 25,000 people initially were killed there?

Delaware Turnpike is the worst for tolls. Leaving Jersey over the Del Memorial Bridge is a 3 dollar toll. After ten miles in Delaware, its another 2 dollars to get the privilege of entering Maryland. Didn't Chicago lease out the Skyway to some company for like a billion dollars last year? And doesn't that mean the tolls are supposed to stay the same through the end of next year guaranteed?

This is nothing new in the House of Representatives. Although this kind of atmosphere is somewhat foreign in the Senate. I'm not saying that everything has been all ham and plaques in the Senate, but the atmosphere tended to be more one of compromise and consensus building, rather than polarization and domination, at least historically speaking.

Brian Wilson - Smile. Even though it would have been better if they had remastered original recordings. Phoenix - Alphabetical. The best new album last year came from France. Wonderful electropop with an 80s throwback feel. Muse - Absolution. The band that Radiohead should have become after OK Computer Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Shake the Sheets. Just damn good. Kanye West - College Dropout.

If he was, maybe we'd win something once in a while.

I just love the fact that someone gave Clarence Thomas tires. Really, who gives someone tires?

Tolls are cheap in Chicago, even at 80cents. To Leave Jersey and get to Staten Island on the Outerbridge Crossing, 6 dollars. To Leave Brooklyn and get to Staten Island on the Outerbridge Crossing, 8 dollars.

I didn't know the CIA was involved with animation studios. Oh you mean "the" ice age.

I believe I pointed out that the logic to your entire argument is flawed: That not allowing an agent of the government to compel someone to participate in something is censorship. It is, in fact, not true. Merriam-Webster defines the verb "To Censor" as such: to examine in order to suppress or delete anything considered objectionable. Allowing independent non-compelled practice of religion is not censorship. Forcing someone to practice something they don't believe in is oppression. Not allowing teachers or educators to compel students to pray is not censorship. Prayer is still allowed. It has nothing to do with relativism.

The US has decided to up its pledge again. To 350 million dollars.

Here I was thinking the latest topic brought up in this thread was whether Bruce Vilanch ate Charles Nelson Reilly. Jugg: You've very obviously taken the Lyndon LaRouche model of argument. Wrap yourself in such intellectual, inaccessible language that maybe someone will just surrender to your inaccurate logic and premises. And even if it doesn't you'll still feel intellectually superior. Good for you! But to sit here and say that bleeding heart liberals like myself are devoted to homosexaulity and censorship is most funny indeed. And you forgot that we also apparently drown cute kittens in buckets. At this point, I shouldn't even bother responding to your pseudo-intellectual claptrap that really involve nothing more than ad-hominem attacks (like for example, your seeming obsession with a Senator who represents nobody in this discussion, as I believe noone in this conversation resides in the great state of New York) and torturous paragraphs about nothing. But I will anyway. The U.S. government provides freedom of religion. By espousing a particular religion in compelled prayer time, a public school by definition would be endorsing a specific brand of religion. Whether only one person, or several do not belong to this religion, the government is limited in its powers from compelling minorities from following or espousing a specific particular religion. A public school is governed by an elected school board which is, depending on the municipality, also governed by the city or state government to which it belongs. This would make a public school a defacto agent of the government. This doesn't mean that religious clubs couldn't be allowed in a public school necessarily, this doesn't mean that a time for silent reflection/prayer couldn't be allowed during the school day, this doesn't mean anything other than the government does not have the right to compel anyone to practice a specific faith.

I'm gonna be celebrating this holiday like I celebrate most. Quietly sitting on the trunk of my car, drinking a case of malt liquor in the office parking lot. Ain't that right Bea Arthur? "You got it, wino!"
-
Hey its ok that you have to twist logic and misinterpret sentences... Just keep drinking the Kool-Aid and it will be all good!

Except, for about the fifteenth time, the concepts you are talking about are philosophical and not scientific. Finding a hole in a theory does not automatically create a new theory. Nobody disputes the fact that its acceptable to question the weaknesses of Darwinian theory but to use the "what the hell else could it be" test to jump to ID, is oh - I don't know - not good enough for me. Now back to more Match Game fun.
