Somehow our "No Yellow Ribbon Car Magnet Left Behind" campaign pales in comparison.

what were you doing in Switzerland?

I could go for an ELo as number 4. Especially if they would play ELO when he came out to pitch. That would be sweet. Its not about the stats. Its not about the wins or losses. Its about the intro music. Seriously.

Well, that's the point. We don't have a season on the brink anymore. If we have four pitchers that the team has reasonable confidence in to produce, why can't we use the fifth spot to grow ONE pitcher. Diaz proved that he isn't going to lose every game he throws - and it's not an automatic loss with him at the mound. If the Sox want to grow and dominate every year, its not enough to get the big players for a year or two, we need to homegrow some talent too, which would include taking some of our better AAA pitchers and bringing them along for quite a bit of the season.

But not everyone is Mark Buehrle. Mark Buehrle also gets rocked on occasion too but when we he goes on a two or three game losing streak in the middle of the season, you aren't calling for him to be sent down to Charlotte... but there were a few times this year where his pitching looked very Triple AAA to me too. I don't have a lot of experience watching Diaz pitch. I don't think there's a higher pressure situation for a rookie than starting against the Cubs at home - at least not on our team last year... and he blew away my expectations. He didn't just keep us in the game, he won the game. Big deal to me, anyways.

The problem with keeping only "yes" men, is that at their core, they'll say "yes" to anyone who's buttering their bread.

I wanna see A Very Long Engagement, which is made by the same dude who did Amelie. Also if you like older movies, I really dug some Louis Malle stuff, Murmur of the Heart in particular.
-
Yeah, but I think we brought him up in a bad situation. Our season was really already on the brink there and there was a lot of undue pressure that could conceivably screw with a young guy's head? Especially when he's being sent in and out of Charlotte? Just askin

Can I ask the dumb question: What's so awful about Ben Davis? I thought his swing improved tons with the Sox - didn't his average jump like 150 points with us?
-
Wasn't Diaz the one who outpitched Zambrano against the Cubs at the Cell last year? I liked his stuff a lot the one time I saw him - but when you're pitching on the 5th starter wheel like we've had for the last two years, how is anyone going to succeed?

Patriotic country artificially pushed up charts

New country = old watered down bad rocknroll. Give me some Old 97s or even some new Willie anyday. -
I think Germany is finally coming to terms with the way unification felt the Easter third of the country. By the time that those in the East realized what was happening, they were powerless to control the forces that were changing a lot of their lives. It really did affect the power structure in the East and across the country for a good 8 years, and only stopped getting national prominence after some gerrymandering from the CenterLeft SPD party in 2002.

This stuff happens all the time. Its the way radio works. When I was working in Kansas, I got calls asking for the new Blink 182 song from dorks in Las Vegas. Its how Limp Bizkit got popular, that is when they weren't paying stations to spin the songs 30 times a week. Nothing particularly heinous about it, except for the exploitation of our military. But then again, the whole industry is about ruthless exploitation - so I guess its just par for the course. -
ND just makes me laugh in general. The deleted scene alone. Anchorman next week. By far the funniest movie of the year. Also, if you like the foreign films - I loved Good Bye Lenin!, a German movie about the fall of the Berlin Wall.

I actually agree. I only don't go to a certain couple places because of the way they treat the people who work there. And that has nothing to do with politics.

Those numbers are misleading. Its not necessarily the companies that are donating, but rather the people in charge who are doing the donating. For example, eBay donated more money to Republicans than Dems this cycle from its executive staff but the number of people donating was actually equal from its executive staff. If I'm boycotting a company, its because of their corporate culture (e.g. WalMart and Cracker Barrel) and not because of where they give their dirty dirty PAC money.

Isn't part of childhood trying to get access to this forbidden fruit either? These things just aren't as satisfying if you don't have to sneak around to get em.

Yes thats right, it's December 2004. We didn't get the Cubs #4 pitcher. I guess that means its time to write off 2005.

Absinthe is an altogether different kind of drunk, although legal Absinthe in Prague no longer offers the hallucinogenic effects of the past. It's legal in Europe but only without Wormwood Oil. The last time I was in Prague, I woke up one morning and couldn't remember what city I was in and who the other guy in my room was at first. All because of five bucks worth of liquor.
