  1. Love what the Twins are doing in Detroit. 3 - 0, 11 hits.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) I wish he hit better...but it's not that big of a need, honestly. ^^^ I agree. It's hard enough to find an everyday catcher who can hit, backup catchers that can hit are extremely rare. I'm happy with Flowers catching ability.
  3. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 01:16 PM) I'd really to get a decent backup catcher at the deadline. Flowers is brutal. Mauer's probably available.
  4. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 12:48 PM) You do realize he has been struggling at the plate since he was in the minors right? Yes, but not this bad. In fact, i think that he had streaks where he was decent. But there aren't too many hitters that are going to play once a week and be good.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) A year ago, many thought he was Pierzynski's replacement. Now, not so much. He couldn't hit my changeup. In all fairness, like all of our bench, they need to play a little more often to get in a groove.
  6. Just a reminder, there are several of us stuck at work today. A little pbp would be much appreciated. Thank you!
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 11:39 AM) The streaky first half review: 10-6 7-15 (17-21) 14-2 (31-23) 5-11 (36-34) 8-3 (44-37) How about a nice, consistent, 81 - 0 second half, 125 wins, and kick ass in October? Fixed it for you my friend.
  8. QUOTE (soxmaniac! @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) the streak lives on! i must obey the superstition go sox go, go sox go, hey chicago whattaya say, the sox are gonna win today Robin Yentura probably dreamed todays lineup up in his sleep last night to throw this game, soley to put an end to this.
  9. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) He hasn't been that great this year though defensively. He has lost a step range wise and isn't getting to as many balls as he should. Sure, he still makes the GG play here and there, but so much of being a great SS is making the normally hard plays look routine. I have been a huge supporter of Alexei, but it's clear he is a bottom five SS this year in the AL. The stats back that up, both defensively and offensively. Jeter wins the GG every year based on naked-eye scouting. People see him make the great plays. But the metrics show he sucks. So if he's bottom 5 of the AL, who are the 9 shortstops that you would rather have? I can't think of any.
  10. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) Price in a landslide. His delivery is perfect. And I love Sale... Gee, where have we heard that before? cough, cough Prior cough, cough.
  11. It looks like this game is taking on another purpose. If Harrison does well, he will probably get the start in the All Star game. Let's knock him around a little ............a lot! http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2012/07/05/r...with-white-sox/
  12. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) Nice day for Joey DeMichele, who proved to be too good for rookie ball. He's been promoted to Kannapolis So whats the story on this kid? He wasn't a 1st or 2nd round pick, but seems to be pretty good. Does he project to be a legit major Leaguer? Why did other teams pass on him?
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 11:34 AM) He'll be on the final vote ballot again and he'll probably win. He's been the second best C in the AL this year (next to Mauer), but he's definitely been the best power hitting catcher in baseball. Um.....No. Look at what Mauer has actually done as a catcher, not much. In fact, Mauer is a pretty poor catcher.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 12:54 PM) I think most posters would say I've said enough on Ozzie. This "quit on the team" stuff is tiresome. Did Rios quit on the team? Did Dunn? It's easy to spout such a simplistic phrase. Do grown men and women really think Ozzie Guillen quit on the White Sox? YES
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 12:15 PM) I'm not sure I mind a LOOGY walking a righty. I mind it a lot more when the righty homers off of him. This. It seems to me that you have to be aware of your limitations and not try to be the hero. Pitch to rightys but offer them nothing all that good. Make them get themselves out, or take the walk.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 12:04 PM) WGN tonight. See you all behind the big screen. Plus screw pizza. You need some MT buffalo T-bone steaks That sounds pretty good. Do you put a little horseradish with it?
  17. I have heard that the Dodgers now have a lot of money to throw around, but this strikes me as a sign that they are going to be throwing around a lot of money foolishly.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) I like that this is an early start, I get to watch most of it before my softball game. Hopefully we can get into New Yorks pen early and beat them up a little bit, it would be nice to carry over the offense that the Sox were flashing yesterday I hope we can too, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 10:04 AM) This has been discussed many, many times. There is a logjam of outfielder's. KW Jr is taking up space in AA. Shoemaker and Earley are stuck in W-S, and Haddow is stuck in Kanny, until something changes. Maybe if they can get rid of some of the flotsam in Charlotte, that can start a cascade of promotions. Until then, everyone is stuck. You cannot possibly be suggesting that KW Jr be removed from the equation are you. BLASPHEMER ! I'm really not a KW hater, but this situation is really starting to annoy me.
  20. QUOTE (Hawk09 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) It is not a good time to be coming to NYC to face the red-hot Yanks,no doubt....my god...25-7 in the last 32....15-3 in their last 18..yikes.... I swear that right field fence is about 290 ft from home plate....yesterday I saw the 2nd baseman almost make the warning track on a high pop up before he yielded to the right fielder....it is crazy, stupid short, and the Yanks have a lineup built to take full advantage...it is similar to the Twins in the old Metrodome...huge home court advantage. Now,Sox face 4 righthanders in Nova(hot right now, with a 1.28 era in his last 4 starts),Warren,Kuroda and Hughes,so in theory our lefties, (DeAza,Dunn,AJ,Danks,Hudson,Escobar) could maybe pull a pitch over that short wall also...but hard to match Cano(7homers in 10 games),Jeter(might as well be a lefty with his swing, altho Gordo's swing is similar right now),Tex,Swisher,A-Rod,ect. I would be very happy with a split, but am braced for worse. To paraphrase a line from Apollo 13, "Oh contrare gentlemen, I believe that this is going to be our finest hour!
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:06 AM) Alittle something I found.. QUOTE 61. Wisconsin-Stevens Point 3B Justin Jirschele: not considered super toolsy — average or below-average speed, power, arm — but strong hit tool may be enough to get him drafted; very interesting BB/K numbers – he’s the opposite of a three-true outcomes player; 5-11, 200 pounds He must develope a bad back then if he is a 3rd baseman for the Sox.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 07:45 AM) The counter-counter point being, the more of Ozzie's players Ozzie got, the worse his teams got. Very true, particularly later on. But how much of Podsednik, Igutchi, Pierzynski, Uribe, etc acquisitions, and the Lee, Valentin, Ordonez, etc subtractions were K.W., and how much was Ozzie wanting it to happen?
  23. The point being that K.W. & Ozzie were on the same page too, once upon a time.
