  1. Jerry isn't taking 45M/year, when one is sunk cost. I'm obviously joking when I talk about Harper. Wheeler, not so much. If they get Darvish or Wheeler and take the money I don't expect anything else this winter.
  2. Like I said, Jerry is 85. Probably not his problem eventually. That being said, I think he might have a stroke if Hahn came to him with that deal.
  3. If they're going to do that, then do Harper/Wheeler instead if Middleton is blowing smoke up the media's ass.
  4. There's not much out there that isn't super expensive. If I had to choose between Cease and Dunning as the centerpiece, I think I'm going Cease. Cease+filler(Sheets, Burger, Adolfo, Rutherford type guys, maybe 2 of them) for Gallo and Lynn? Who says no? I don't want to, but that solves a bunch of problems with one deal.
  5. It's more Sox fan cynicism than anything else.......Ever heard of Murphy's law?? Who would be better in LF? Brantley or Eloy?
  6. OMG, how brutal......nothing could happen all winter. We could get to SB Sunday and crickets, as the Owners/Union duke it out over money. Then, there's either an agreement or an imposed season and everyone signs within 2 weeks.
  7. I wonder how much budget that leaves for a pitcher? I wonder how much Kluber would cost? If Hahn got Kluber I'd want him to hedge with someone like Richards/Archer in case Kluber isn't healthy, has diminished stuff, or gets injured again.
  8. I'm fine with Brantley, I'd actually like adding Pederson/Dahl and Brantley. There are plenty of decent options out there, just not in RF.
  9. Fine then we'll just bring up LaRoche.
  10. There's a metric shit ton of distrust there. Can you blame them? The MLBPA thinks that whatever financial things the owners claim is bullshit because they refuse to share their books. Oh yeah? You lost $130M Middleton? Prove it. That's what the MLBPA is asking for, proof of the losses. Without proof, the MLBPA calls shenanigans and I don't blame them at all.
  11. Or he comes here and goes the way of EE, Dunn and myriad other Sox old fart DHs over the years.
  12. How would Eloy be at DH? Some of this stuff points to the idea that Vaughn might be on the move, and they may have seen enough of Eloy in the OF.
  13. Have no idea how credible this guy is though, but this isn't the first place I've seen it. Seems like there's been a lot of smoke around Brantley/Sox today, and I'm assuming that it's for the DH spot. No Vaughn in 2021 if he signs. Passan also linked the Sox/Brantley in the Springer article. https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/30466745/what-jeff-passan-hearing-mlb-free-agency-trade-rumors-latest-offseason-buzz
  14. I honestly think though they think that he's MLB ready, they want to make sure. From what I heard MiLB is happening in 2021.
  15. Oy, that means that the Sox are between 35-50 years away from their next championship. Yikes.
  16. MLB is what matters. It's an incentive to get young stars like Franco, Eloy Acuna, etc. up to the Bigs earlier. A guy that has his first full season at 22 or earlier gets FA at 29, a guy at 23 gets it at 30, and a guy at 24 or older gets it at 31. In the majority of cases, it's still your standard 7 years as it is now with time manipulation. The other side is if you get a HS or Int'l guy that's ready at 20 or 21......you get more value by calling them to the bigs rather than leaving them the minors. Age is determined by the calendar year of the season. If the guy is 23 any time in the calendar year, you get him until he's 30. I think it both helps teams compete and helps get players to MLB faster. However, players that have to be demoted a bunch are subject to 6 full years of service time. It gives the players an opportunity to prove themselves in MLB sooner, and at the same time allows for some safety for the team if the player struggles. Examples of service time manipulation like sending a guy down during the ASB or something like that can be defined in the CBA and be considered illegal.
  17. We have to realize that we should be excited when they sign someone that isn't in the bargain bin.
  18. Dude, it does us no good to b**** about it constantly. I just wish the rest of the board didn't entertain pipedreams. The whole argument comes from certain people who get promised a PS5 for Christmas and get a PS3 instead, and are given the excuse that mom and dad didn't know the difference. Then mom and dad make that mistake year after year, when little Johnny is on Santa's good list.(read: the Sox are attempting to compete) We just need to accept who is a realistic target and who isn't based on Jerry's criteria and we can have a rational discussion. I really think discussing Springer and Bauer is nothing other than mental masturbation.
