Bieber is like a 99th percentile outcome even for Shane Bieber the prospect....however there's a lot of similarities there. I don't think that Dunning is going to be that good, but that's his ceiling IMO. I think Dunning is likely to be a solid 3 and you don't trade 6 years of that for one year of 34 year old Lance Lynn. I'd be fine trading someone like Andrew Dalquist+someone like Adolfo/Rutherford/Sheets for Lynn but no more than that. And If that doesn't get it done, then Jon Daniels can go find a sucker elsewhere. (how does Jon Daniels still have a job btw)
-
Stuff wise they're very similar, and Dunning misses bats more than I thought he would. He's the profile of a guy that might surprise you in MLB performance.
-
Ding Ding Ding......we have a winner.
-
The bigger issue with Dunning last year was his stamina more than anything else. He couldn't hold his stuff past the 4th inning or so. But those 1st 3 innings were damn good. He reminded me a bit of Bieber.(best case scenario) Bieber doesn't have huge stuff either but his control is impeccable, which is a lot of what I saw from Dunning while his stuff was still there.
-
Lynn is ok, but he's not a TOR pitcher. I'd rather have Tanaka for free, despite his potential UCL issue.
-
You don't trade Dylan Cease for a 34 year old pitcher on a 1 year deal. Darvish is also 34 but he has a track record of being a strong #2 throughout the majority of his career AND has 3 years of control. Darvish's track record>>>>Lynn's
-
He wasn't, but he was averaging over 93 mph in the minors and topped at 96 which he never did this past season.
-
DING DING DING.....we have a winner. There are other options, like Sugano and Arihara as well. Dip into Japan if you need to.
-
If Dunning gets his MiLB reported stuff back, you'll be sorry for making that deal. It's quite possible.
-
The best shot that the Sox have of getting a front line pitcher is Giolito taking another step or Kopech, Crochet or both developing into one. I think signing a Tanaka/Odorizzi/Quintana type is the way to go to solidify another spot and give Dunning and Cease the other spots to start, and Kopech comes up and replaces whichever guy isn't performing. I'm fine trading Cease because I'm not a huge fan of his, but if they're trading him they should be getting a guy like Darvish or Gray in return. I would not trade Kopech or Crochet unless you're getting DeGrom back.

The majority of the Bears success in 2018 on D was that Fangio was great at disguising coverages and that the Bears could reach the QB with rushing 4 or 5 guys at most.
-
I think Pagano is an issue as well, but.....Fangio did a lot of the same stuff because the 4 men could get to the QB back in 2018. Now that Mack doesn't command the same attention, they can't get pressure on the QB with 4 men like they used to. Pagano is way too passive for my tastes. He just sits back in coverage all of the time.
-
Shit, I don't even think they could anything for him at this point. I've been ripping on him since about week 10 last year.
-
I know this is sacrilege around these parts......but Mack has not been the same guy that the Bears traded for the last two years. He got really old really fast. He was great in 2018, and hasn't been the same since. I think a lot of the decline of the defense from being an elite unit to just a very good one has to do with Mack falling halfway off a cliff. He's now just a good pass rusher, and nowhere near elite.

Jerry is especially risk averse. This is a guy that refuses to give a greater than $1M bonus to international prospects.

Have you forgotten Jay Cutler?

It's funny because it's true....

If no new RF by Nontender deadline, should Sox tender Mazara?

I can't stand LaRussa but I'm pretty sure that he's an upgrade over Renteria on the field. In the Clubhouse, I think he's a massive downgrade. -
It's not about just that guy. It's about the lineup as a whole. Usually relievers that are death on RHB are death on everyone who bats right handed. They don't discriminate. My theory is that Springer kills RH starters but does worse against RH relievers. Plus this lineup strikes out way too much and Springer just adds to that.

Doesn't Springer strike out a lot? It's always worrisome when guys that strike out a lot get north of 30. All of the sudden they can become Adam Dunn. (the 2011 version)

Some people are confusing Michael Brantley and Jackie Bradley Jr. Hint: Don't use Brantley and Bradley, use Brantley and JBJ. People will know who is who there. -
It's a complete pipedream......but maybe the Phillies are desperate to offload salary and it wouldn't cost that much. Harper fits the Sox better than Springer does. It's a 25.3 M/year contract.....but it lasts forever. I think the Sox would be willing to have it if the Phillies would pay 16M/yr over the last 3 years. Something like Harper, Wheeler and Cash.....and maybe it only costs something like Cease and Madrigal.......plus, the Phillies have 8 years before they have to worry about paying the Sox a dime.
-
Al's with another drop: I think all 3(Al's, Portillos and Not Cishek) are fulla shit, but it's the offseason so let's roll with it. If that's the case about the Phillies why not Harper or both?
-
It goes beyond that. How many RHB do they have in a row before Moncada or Grandal come up? Ideally, you want those guys hitting 2nd and 5th, so from the 6th spot through the leadoff spot you have all RHB. That's easy to manage against. Fewer opportunities for the opposing manager to fuck up.
