Because if they have a LH bat then a reliever that is death on righties can stay in the game for a longer period of time. There are pitchers that are death on RHB and get murdered by LHB. It makes them easier to manage against, and it could end up costing them in the playoffs. The Yankees have had a wonderful lineup that's mostly right handed for a few years now, and they get killed in the playoffs because they're too easy to manage against. None of their LHBs are as good as a healthy Moncada or Grandal, but you get the point. Lack of lineup balance kills you in the late innings where matchups matter so much more.

This is the issue: the Sox need a RF, and they need a LH bat. I don't think that it's a smart idea to lock up all of this money in Springer......I'd go with the Pederson/Engel platoon this year, and hope that someone like Conforto hits the market next year and go give that money to him. If not, then they can figure it out later. It is possible that the Sox realize that both Jimenez and Vaughn are DHs long term and they're willing to move Vaughn for an upgrade in SP, while signing Springer for RF and getting someone else to play LF.

If they don't get Bauer or Springer would you call the offseason a failure? I don't think there's much of a chance that Springer ends up here either. If so, be prepared to call the offseason a failure.

Yeah I can't find it on twitter.

I'd only do it if: 1. They're really concerned about Moncada never being back to the player he was in 2019 2. They can reach an agreement with Bryant on an extension
-
I'd bet on it....he has to remember to be a bit more aggressive than he was this past season.
-
I'll believe it when they actually land a top tier FA.
-
I actually think that it makes keeping Kopech and Crochet a must. To me, what separates those two from Cease is their control/command. They throw strikes at a higher rate than Cease does. Giolito is good enough that he could be that guy for the next couple seasons, while we wait for Kopech and Crochet to develop. I think the bigger get would be signing Giolito to an extension and buying out two free agent years. I don't think we've seen the best of Giolito yet. He just started mixing in his slider more toward the end of the season and once that happens regularly he could take another step forward.

He can't find the plate enough to be a reliever. That's a completely underrated aspect of relief pitching. You can actually get away with throwing fewer strikes as a starter than as a reliever.
-
Of course, but this is the perfect time for Jerry to get away with the "you can't spend a dollar when you only have 50 cents" excuse. Remember that one? C'mon...we're White Sox fans. We should know better than to expect them to shop at the top of the FA class. They're always going after tier B guys. Bauer and Springer are a pipedream, and probably Darvish is too because of the money involved.
-
Jerry has been whining to the media about losing money for months, I can't see him playing at the big boy table this winter.
-
I think they're going to give Collins a look at backup catcher.
-
I think it will be Brantley/Pederson and one from each pair of Quintana/Odorizzi and Richards/Archer

They could, theoretically, keep Vaughn down another season....idk if that's a good idea, but whatever. If that's the case, I see them signing Michael Brantley for DH. I do think that whomever suggested a Pederson/Engel/Garcia platoon for a fraction of the price of Springer has a really good point.
-
You forgetting about Vaughn? They think he's MLB ready.

Outside of one really lucky season, Lopez hasn't been good either. But yeah, I'd rather rent McCullers for a year than Lynn. You're going to have to give up more than Lopez and Mazara for McCullers as both are non-tender candidates.
-
The timing of the pitchers the Sox have and the offense peaking is off.
-
Yeah, I know it's mostly shitposting........but if they bring back Mazara it's fairly clear they're not interested in having a high probability of winning a championship in this window. It's more of "if it happens, it happens, but we're not going to actively try to win a world series"
-
When they do bullshit like this it makes me wonder if Samson is right about Jerry wanting to finish in 2nd every year.
-
and if that's the case, then expect modest upgrades at best.
-
So if you're as late or later than Prior, then it might be an issue. Got it.

Real Talk - Trading Kopech would be a big time mistake
Jack Parkman replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not sure you can count on anyone in 2021 to pitch a full season. Everyone was abbreviated to a degree. I predict an epidemic of pitcher injuries next year. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to go right back to 162 games regardless of whether or not it's economically feasible. Something like 100-120 games with more off days. -
Yeah, and that's my point. I'm asking about late loading being a potential injury risk. I'm saying potential because there are players like Scherzer that load late and get away with it.

Prior was closer to Dunning than Nolan Ryan Verlander is someone who stayed healthy for a long time before his arm finally gave out. Closer to Nolan Ryan
