  1. Yeah, when it was iffy whether Fangio was going to go stay with the Bears or not, I specifically remember Hub saying that if Fangio left and they got Pettine it was an upgrade, and the only way possible that it would be. It's obviously 2 years old now so idk if its possible to find that audio.
  2. When Nagy was hired and they weren't sure if Fangio was staying yet.
  3. Didn't they give Moncada a 70? EDIT: yes, they did.
  4. Hahahahaha. That's where the gopher balls he throws end up. I think the the one that Brad Lidge gave up in the 2005 NLCS to Pujols was recently re-discovered and given an official designation haha.
  5. Mike Pettine would be an upgrade over Pagano and if GB fired him I'd launch Chuck in about 2 seconds to bring him in. Arkush glows about him, and says he's a better DC than Fangio.
  6. FIFY. They CAN spend whatever they want. They just refuse to do so. There are a metric shit ton of pissed off Cub fans. Not to mention that Comcast is playing hardball with them about Marquee Network, and Comcast owns ~45% of the cable market in Chicagoland.
  7. Does it matter to you if they're all enshrined posthumously and nobody gets to give a speech on their behalf? Would that change your mind? If they're not allowed any of the privileges of being a HOFer, does that do anything for you? I personally believe in the lifetime ban as opposed to being permanently ineligible. When the disgraced have passed on, they have paid their debt to baseball for their sins, and can go to the hall of disgraced greats. That's just how I'd run things. It wouldn't even be part of the regular museum, just a separate building on the campus that people can choose to visit or not.
  8. I'm for cheaters and scumbags staying out, but it's incredibly hypocritical when Anson, Cobb and Landis are still in there. My opinion: have a separate wing for the asshats of the game who were still great on the field, but did something to disgrace themselves. IMO the HOF is a museum of baseball history, and that history can't be told without the scumbags. People that go there are the roiders, overt racists and gamblers. Bud Selig belongs there too, for allowing the roiders to get away with it for so long.
  9. @ptatc There was just an article that Connor McDavid is playing this season with a completely torn PCL. IIRC, there is no good reconstructive surgery for that and a PCL injury ended Brian Urlacher's career. (Different sports, I know) How would a severe PCL injury affect a hockey player and how would it affect longevity? Thanks, Parkman
  10. I'd trade Madrigal or Vaughn, Dunning and Stiever for Arenado in an instant if they could re-work his contract to have the opt-out removed. If the opt out remains, I'd do Madrigal/Adolfo.
  11. While I agree with you on principle, as long as Cap Anson and Ty Cobb, and Ken Landis(IIRC) remain enshrined, that kind of goes out the window.
  12. I thought he was actually a good RF until he messed up his knee? Idk, I wasn't born yet/a toddler when he was playing RF.
  13. Exactamundo. Instead, Konerko is off after one ballot and Jeter is near unanimous because Jankees. I'm not even saying that Jeter isn't a HOF, because he is. He was a great offensive SS. I'm saying the near unanimous vote is ludicrous. Same with Rivera.
  14. He's a damn DH. Jeter actually hurt his team by playing defense. At least at DH you're not hurting your team.
  15. I think his gold gloves are illegitimate. He was a bad shortstop. He had no range whatsoever. He had a significantly negative defensive WAR most years. Jeter won GGs because he was a Jankee hype machine golden boy. He deserves exactly zero gold gloves. Alex Rodriguez was a MUCH better SS than Jeter defensively when they made that trade. Jeter probably had bottom 5 range of any SS in baseball. He made routine plays look spectacular because his range was so awful. Jeter was to the SS position what Frank Thomas was to 1B. (A bit of hyperbole, but you get the picture)
  16. Jeter's induction should be nearly as controversial as Baines, IMO. I thought we have passed the point of magic numbers for induction. Player A: .289/.356/.465 119 wRC+ Player B: .310/.377/.440 119 wRC+ Player A is Baines, Player B is Jeter.
  17. Frank Thomas got 83% of the vote. There is no way in hell that Derek Jeter should get a larger percentage of the ballot than Frank Thomas. Frank Thomas>>>>>>Jeter as a hitter. Also, Jeter was a shitty shortstop so anyone that wants to bring defense into it can eat a bag of dicks. Every gold glove jeter won was a massive joke because he had the worst range out of any SS in baseball after like 1998. It's hard to make an error if most balls hit your way end up as hits. Tim Anderson is a better SS than Jeter ever was. Derek Jeter getting as large of a percentage of the vote as he did is insulting to my Intelligence as a baseball fan. If they had defensive metrics for the entirety of Jeter's career his WAR would probably be around Harold Baines. His reputation as a player was entirely undeserved and was a product of the Jankee hype machine. If Jeter played his career in Fucking Dallas or something and had the same numbers he'd be a borderline case. We have entered an age where there are no longer any magic numbers for entry into the HOF.
  18. I know that this doesn't apply to you, but stay far far away from Kane, McHenry and Kendall Counties if you want to avoid racism. The dark side is strong there. There are lots of racist assholes around here. When I was younger, people used to chase other POC out of my neighborhood by setting up and accusing their kids of vagrancy/theft. Only one family of color remains in my neighborhood, and we've been good pals with them since the mid 90s. I have no idea why they stayed......
  19. One thing that Kenny was great at that Hahn isn't, is internal scouting. The only player that KW traded that ever hurt him was Gio Gonzalez. Rick has traded 1 player that has become a star elsewhere in Marcus Semien, and an uber prospect that looks well on his way in Voldemort.
  20. I hope the Sox can grab Scooter Gennett for 2B stopgap/OF duties. Gives another lefty bat, and he's actually good when healthy.
  21. There are so many variables that go into the success or failure of a QB: Scheme fit Coaching Play Calling Offensive Line Processing the game/reading defenses Existence of a run game (or lack thereof) WR/TE talent If you look at this objectively, most are out of the QB's control and Trubisky had the worst situation of the three QBs. Not making excuses for him, but he certainly hasn't been given a lot of the tools necessary to be successful at the QB position. His inability to read defenses well is definitely on him. However, it's up to the playcaller to recognize that and cover for him to the best of his ability.
  22. Taylor St. Sox thinks that there isn't a pro athlete in any sport that is clean, so quit arguing with him. You can't convince him otherwise. He thinks 100% of pro/olympic athletes are using PEDs. It's not worth it.
  23. Suddenly, the Hawks are only 4 points out of a playoff spot and only have to catch 3 teams.
  24. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on Trubisky but no more. He's been awful in the first round, and wasted 3 top 10 picks. The jury was out on Floyd and Trubisky until this season. The jury has now reached a verdict and both suck. I always hated the Trubisky pick but there's nothing I could do about it. He did a good job building a very good defense and finding talented skill players. His work at QB and OL leave a lot to be desired. Floyd being bad hurts too. I liked what he was doing up until this season, when it was clear that he royally fucked up with Floyd and Trubisky. That's enough to cost him his job. He shouldn't be allowed to pick another QB. I'm at the point that I've seen enough.
