Possible extension with Robert
Me too, mostly because I think he's going to hit .300+ again with 35 bombs. I think Abreu and Moncada are close friends and I think the Sox signing Abreu to that deal was doing everything they can to keep Moncada happy. Jerry didn't let Hurt go, so I have a hard time thinking that he's going to let the best player they've had since #35 walk. He's 84 years old and he can't take the money with him. I think the Sox are going to shell out big money to Giolito and Moncada if they do it again. Moncada might as well do a 10/250 or something like that at the end of the season if he puts up 8 WAR like we all think he will.

Castellanos to Reds , rumored 4/64M
There are pros and cons to that. If they sign Castellanos, that pretty much means Vaughn is a trade chip, as 1B/DH are both clogged with Abreu/Castellanos.

Possible extension with Robert
Moncada is still pre-Arb so he also runs that risk.

Possible extension with Robert
Neither does Robert. Robert already got $26M from the Sox. Both Moncada and Giolito have recently made comments to the media that they love being here. Maybe winning is more important than dollars to them? Moncada does seem like one of those guys who likes to flaunt his cash, so who knows?

Edwin Encarnacion
Who's still out there besides Puig/Dickerson in the OF and Gennett at 2B? Sousa?
-
Edwin Encarnacion
I'd prefer someone with defensive ability and not a plodding 1B type. Puig would make sense but he's a reverse splits guy.

Edwin Encarnacion
Yeah. I don't think they're trading Lindor this year.
-
Edwin Encarnacion
Right. That's what I want him to be in Chicago. If he can hit for enough power to keep fielder's honest, I have no doubt he can win batting title after batting title.

Edwin Encarnacion
Listen, I like Madrigal. He's answered most of the questions I've had since he's been drafted. 31 2B, 5 3B and 5 HR just isn't cutting it in the power department. Mostly the bolded. I'd like to see him hit 40+ 2B, 5+3B and around 5-8 HR.

Edwin Encarnacion
Whether or not he has enough gap power(doubles/triples) to stick in the majors. I'd imagine there's going to be a lot of RFers playing close enough to the IF to make it close at 1B. That's the one thing I'm concerned about with Madrigal. I also wonder how defensive positioning will affect him. I think players with Madrigal's skillset are underrated in today's game, but that type of hitter has to have enough gap power to make up for the lack of HRs.

I was actually hoping that the bat was Cesar Hernandez. That would have given them another year to evaluate Madrigal.

Hats off to the Front Office
They do, but it's hard to not pitch a healthy starting 160 innings.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
The fear with Collins is that he's going to be flirting with Mendoza constantly. If Collins can hit .235-.245 he's going to do what Schwarber did this year, but with an OBP around ~.360. Collins power and eye are unquestionable. It's a matter of whether or not he makes enough contact for them to be useful. I think he's worth a 1 season trial.

Edwin Encarnacion
That's fair enough. Would you do Collins/Dunning?
-
Edwin Encarnacion
Why don't you like that deal?

Edwin Encarnacion
This. I actually wouldn't mind if they traded him, given how questionable his hit tool is. I just don't know how valuable a LH 1B prospect with a questionable hit tool but massive power/OBP is. This might be a cray-cray notion, but maybe package Collins and Lopez for Jon Gray? That would give Kopech and Cease a margin for error in 2020. Collins and Lopez for Gray: Who says no?

Computerized strike zone is coming
If they're doing this, I hope they have a 3-D box over the plate rather than a 2-D plane. If any part of the ball nicks any part of the box, it's a strike.

Edwin Encarnacion
They've supposedly had a lot of interest in McCann. If I were them, I'd sell high. Collins can handle backup Catcher duties. Everyone just needs to know it's going to be a bit of an adventure back there.

Edwin Encarnacion
If Collins proves he can play, it turns Vaughn into a hell of a valuable trade chip to go get a SP to put them over the top.

Edwin Encarnacion
I really like Nomar Mazara and think that everyone will be surprised. I'm pretty bearish on Collins hit tool, but I think he's worth looking at because of the fact that he has massive power/OBP skills from the left side. Best case scenario, Collins is Kyle Schwarber. Just my opinion, but it would be malpractice to not at least give Collins a look at DH/1B after spending the 10th pick on him, when your lineup's biggest need is OBP and Power from the left side.

Edwin Encarnacion
Thinking about it more, I'm fine with Encarnacion getting 50-55% of the ABs at DH(all vs LHP and occasionally vs RHP) and Collins can spell Abreu to keep him fresh.
-
Edwin Encarnacion
If they sign him, they'd be doing it to split duties(vs LHP and occasionally vs RHP) and as insurance in case Collins sucks. If the Sox got EE, in a best case scenario he gets 50% of the DH ABs. Collins could get ABs vs RHP if Grandal or Abreu need a day off or something.
-
Edwin Encarnacion
I don't think they're actually looking at a full-time DH. I think Collins, Abreu, and Grandal are going to spend a lot of time there. They did say that Grandal was going to play a little 1B, so I'm pretty sure that the starting lineup is set and they're going to use a floating DH. So we should stop looking at players like Castellanos/Ozuna/EE and start looking at players like Steven Sousa. There's also an outside shot that Vaughn absolutely tears up the minors this year and looks ready to take over 1B.

Hats off to the Front Office
It's not a 3/56. It's a 4/74. It's very likely that option is going to vest.

Edwin Encarnacion
I don't think that the Sox are necessarily looking for a starting piece right now. They're looking for a known lefty killer that can play some RF.
