  1. EE isn't short-sighted if they still give Collins DH ABs vs RHP. It's insurance if Collins sucks and a platoon partner for Collins. It's a 1 year deal. Pay him the $10M and still give Collins the ABs vs RHP in April and May. If Collins sucks, re-evaluate and DH EE full time. If not, continue the platoon. Also, they can still find ABs for Collins at 1B when Abreu needs a day off. If they sign EE, Renteria needs to be 100% committed to giving Collins DH duties vs RHP for at least the first 6 weeks of the season.
  2. It's not that people aren't giving him a chance...it's that Collins struggled to make contact at every level until 2019 at AAA with a juiced baseball that heavily inflated AAA hitting stats. Collins hit tool is highly questionable until proven otherwise. Collins hit tool was so bad in the low minors that until his swing change and AAA emergence, I thought he was a borderline non prospect.
  3. I don't think they're going to extend Moncada and Giolito until they do it again. This is their last pre arb year. But if they're doing 2019 things or better, I think 5/80 for Giolito and 5/100 for Moncada. They'd have to be paid 20 million + in each of their 2 FA years that they're giving up. Bregman's contract is a good comparable for Moncada. He signed where Moncada is now, and got $100M, and only gave up 2 years of FA.
  4. I would like extensions for Moncada and Giolito for xmas. Both have said they love being here. If the Sox could buy out 2 years of FA, Moncada would be 30 and Giolito 31 when they reach FA. Rendon and Strasburg both have proven that you can still get paid beaucoup bucks at that age.
  5. Parkman's opinion: With the options on the table, this was the best case scenario. I didn't like Keuchel, but after doing some research, found that I underrated him. Steamer has him good for 2.6 WAR and ZiPS has him at 2.7. If he can get above 3 WAR that's good. I also admit that the late start to his season last year probably made him worse than he actually was.
  6. Buehrle's 2005 eclipsed Keuchel's AL CY season. If you look at the numbers, Buehrle was waaaay better. AINEC. Buehrle is quite similar to Konerko as in he's in the hall of very, very good but not quite a HOF.
  7. Theoretically, I'd trade Madrigal+(as long as the + is not Vaughn, Kopech, Robert or Cease) for Lindor(if it were actually possible, and not fantasy land) in an instant. You have a year to convince him to sign an extension. If not, you flip him again next winter and gain some pieces back.
  8. I'm surprised we've come this far with nobody mentioning Manny Ramirez. EDIT: Just saw the OP. Also: Bo Jackson David Wells looked washed up when he was here, but found the fountain of youth after leaving.
  9. WSD has just posted a text conversation on Twitter that claims the Sox have agreed with Keuchel. TIFWIW.
  10. I don't know what it would cost, but I'd rather them trade for Jon Gray if it doesn't cost Vaughn, Madrigal, Kopech or Cease. Jon Gray has a very similar profile to Wheeler, and who knows how good he can be if he gets the hell out of Coors Field.
  11. Could the Sox get Jon Gray without giving up one of their Big 4?
  12. Memorial Day at the earliest. He needs to be down 45 days to get the year back. I'd expect him down a week or two past that. Sometime between Memorial Day weekend and the Draft is my guess.
  13. Hahn has said it without explicitly saying it. It's pretty obvious through context. Don't expect Kopech up until after the draft in June, or Memorial Day Weekend at the earliest. He needs to be down for 45 days to get the year back, and they're going to stretch it out a bit longer to avoid a possible grievance.
  14. I think Moncada is going to hit 30+HR this year so it's going to be hard for Mazara to be 2nd on the team in HR.
  15. Projections are notoriously bad the season after a player has a breakout. Given their prospect pedigree, I'd expect Giolito to have ~4.5-5.0 WAR and Moncada to have 5.0-5.5 WAR.
  16. The bottom line is there are no perfect solutions. The question is this: Do you go for a player that isn't a perfect fit and kill some of your flexibility or put bandaids on it for a year?
  17. He has 3 years. Vaughn and Madrigal are not scraps. It took the perfect storm for the Sox to get the players they did in their trades. In most seasons and situations, Giolito, Moncada and Jimenez aren't available for anyone. It doesn't happen often that a team is in the middle of their window and has a top 10 prospect in the game.
  18. A guy with one great year? Really? It's not like he has the track record of Chris Sale. He's also only been healthy for that one season.
  19. I honestly don't know why the Sox (or anyone for that matter) hasn't signed Wood yet.
  20. We all hope you're right, but you can't put anything past this FO.
  21. When I saw people shitting on Miller, this is what I posted.
  22. I never said that. I've always liked Miller and argued against those that want to dump him.
