I was wrong, Brown is a whackjob. We'll have to let the legal process play itself out, but I don't think he ever sees an NFL field again.

Anderson's 2019 season is going to do wonders for his OBP moving forward. -

There aren't a lot of decent RF in the market. Upgrade other spots. This is assuming that you sign JD Martinez for DH and Abreu for 1B on a 1-year deal. If they can pull off Mazara on the cheap or Nimmo without giving up Madrigal, by all means I'd rather do that. More upside there. I'm in the camp of Mazara for lotto tickets at this point. Other options are cost prohibitive without the upside.

I know people hate the idea of Kole Calhoun in RF, but he's been worth 1.7 fWAR and that's still a huge upgrade from the flaming pile of horseshit the Sox have in RF now, and he has hit 28 HR from the left side. Calhoun is what we hope Collins becomes. If he's super cheap, why not? He's slashed .230/.326/.784 this year.

Castellanos and JD Martinez are DH only. Castellanos is an option at 1B. If they want to sign both, I have no problems and they can let Abreu go and trade Vaughn for an MLB ready RF with lots of control.

Thoughts: 4-2 vs Royals/sailors 1-2 vs Twins 2-1 vs Indians 5-2 vs Tigers 12-7 75 wins. There is an outside chance at 77 if they pick up an extra two against DET, SEA, KC.

I agree, but I think they might pull the trigger if it doesn't progress far enough quickly enough going forward. If it gets through 2021 with no playoffs I think Hahn gets whacked.

This regime has been in place, in 2 different forms, since 2002. It's been Rick Hahn, Kenny Williams, and Jerry Reinsdorf making decisions, regardless of job title, for that amount of time. The job titles have changed, but it's still the same braintrust. It's time for a new vision, and it's time for JR to take his hands out of the cookie jar.

Agreed.

Micker Adolfo. I think that one has completely scared JR off. He's going to continue to tap the Cuban pipeline.

Think about the George Carlin rule of stupid people. There are enough of them out there. (I know it doesn't work like that, it's a bell curve in reality)

If they sign 2 SP and they all stay healthy, they don't have room for Kopech unless they go to a 6 man rotation, or one pitcher sucks badly enough to have to be replaced. I believe in Giolito, Cease, and Lopez. Adding Kopech to the mix only leaves room for one. If they sign 2 SP, one is going to be of the Nova caliber.

I have autism. It's how my brain works. My thought processes are very polarized. Instead of attacking me, help me understand gray areas better. Thanks. Just a PSA. They're not absolutes for the most part, they're probabilities. There are always outliers.
-
If the Sox get Robert, Madrigal and competence in their corner OF/DH spots, they might be able to win 85 games next year, but that is optimistic due to Hahn basically saying that Kopech is starting at AAA to get the year of service they lost back, if you can read between the lines. So don't count on Kopech being in the rotation until after the 2020 MLB Draft.

I usually wouldn't quote Hawk for baseball knowledge, but this one is true: "Don't tell me who you play, tell me when you play them" The Sox caught the Yankees at a vulnerable time, and only had to face Cole or Verlander once vs. the Astros. The Sox were done with the Yankees by Memorial Day.
-
Yeah, but similar to the Bears last year, the Sox look closer than they actually are because of the schedule they play. The Sox beat up on the Royals, Tigers and a punchless Indians offense in the early part of the season. Their record from June 1 forward is more indicative of their talent level. They've been on a 66 win pace since June 1.
-
Depth is a huge issue with the Sox, that's on Hahn and Hostetler. The Sox had their most important players miss 6+ weeks of the season, nor did they have anyone worth a damn to fill their shoes. Giolito missed 2 weeks, Moncada missed 6 weeks, Anderson missed 6 weeks, Jimenez missed 8 weeks, Kopech missed the whole season and Rodon missed 5 months. Not many teams could afford losing Kluber, Clevinger, Lindor and Ramirez for as long as the Indians did. They had great organizational depth to hang around as long as they did. Ramirez had a really awful first half too. Those things would have sunk most teams. If you think Cleveland sticking around with those injuries (and the Yankees as well) is normal, I have a plot of land in SW Louisiana to sell you.
-
Wanne, I hate to say this, but until you have a QB that's proven you're worth a damn your team is maxing at 9 wins no matter how good the defense is. 2008 Bears are the best case scenario for a team without a decent QB. They finished 9-7.

I did watch him. The velocity was actually similar to 2018 where it would take him a while to get going but it would ramp up in the mid to late innings early on. Then, toward the end of April, the velocity didn't come, then it was down. You remember the two starts where he got killed. He looked good in his first 5. Yeah, the walks were there but he was missing bats like crazy and still throwing 92-93 to start games, ramping up to 95-96 by the 4th inning.
-
Yeah, that was before his elbow snapped. He was on his way to a breakout season, IMO. It's really a shame. He's the Sox version of Mark Prior, except Prior had that one great year before getting injured. Shit happens. If you read more of that post you quoted, I said that you couldn't count on Rodon for jack shit, but if his stuff is the same you attempt to keep him around because the talent is there. I think Boras has his hands full getting more than a 3 year deal from anyone for him after 2021. He might get 3/ 36 on the open market, and that's if he's lucky.
-
He was in April. If you look at his game log, his last two starts you could tell something was wrong. He had a 2.89 ERA with an 11.25 K/9 before he was injured.
-
Well yeah, I agree with you. I said he was unreliable. In April before his elbow snapped he looked like he was turning the corner. It's a shame really. It doesn't change the fact that the innings he does give you could very well be TOR quality. I look at him like early career Strasburg, when he was struggling with injuries and TJS constantly. Strasburg wasn't quite as injured as Rodon, but now that the injuries are behind him, Strasburg is a TOR starter, even if he can only give 170-180 innings of it. I kind of hope the same for Rodon. If you think of a TOR guy as a 200 inning pitcher, then yeah, Rodon will never be that. I think he can, when healthy, give you 150-175 innings of 3.25 ERA and 11+ K/9. What I said stands for the other four guys. I'm very confident in Giolito/Kopech, and Cease and Lopez could put it together at any time. Anything you get out of Rodon in 2021 is a bonus. It would even be justified if they want to non-tender him and move on.
