  1. The Nats might put a higher value on relievers who have produced in the Majors already...Kahnle or Swarzak. Might be more attractive to them as a second piece over Burdi in the short term.
  2. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:29 PM) Hawk was not quoted as having said that Avi is the best 5 too player he has ever seen. What he said was; "Avi is the best 5 tool prospect that the Sox have had", in Hawk's many years with the organization. He went on to list some of the outstanding 5 tool prospects, such as Daryl Boston, Kenny Williams and Brian Anderson. He forgot to mention Joe Borchard, but that was another one, whom I sure that he would include in that group. Borchard didn't have outstanding foot speed.
  3. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 21, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) The only thing that he could still improve upon is his ability to draw more bases on balls. I suspect that teams will begin to more frequently pitch around him and if he can take his walks, then his offensive game will be complete. During last nights romp in Seattle, Hawk said that Avi is the best 5 tool talent that the Sox have had, in his entire career, in the booth. To his credit, Hawk said this last year when Avi was struggling. I thought he was nuts, lol.
  4. Time to reactivity the "I've got a feeling something's gonna happen soon" posts.
  5. QUOTE (Scoots @ May 3, 2017 -> 07:19 PM) Does anybody know who Hawk is talking about during picks to click when he says all of those names that picked the click with him. Are they like his friends or something? Sometimes it's guys from a golf course, sometimes Sox ticket guys, sometimes restaurant friends, people who have scratched his back. So a cheap way to repay a favor.
  6. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ May 3, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Useless/stupid trivia question to keep this timely thread alive...Adam Dunn had a bit part in the in the movie Dallas Buyers Club. Anyone remember who was the last Sox player to appear in a major Hollywood movie prior to that? (Or at least the last one I can remember?) I can name two. A Kurt Russell movie called Dreamer ends with a racetrack scene, and in line to place a bet is Dick Allen. Not surprisingly, he looked comfortable there. In the '80's, Charley Lau had a significant part in Max Dugan Returns.
  7. QUOTE (ron883 @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Wow that's pretty crazy lol. But yes, I have been saying it since last year. People tore into me for saying it, but it turns out I was right. Jose isn't the same as he was. The league has adjusted to him, and his age has something to do with it in sure. The dude just has no pop in his bat anymore. Huge disappointment. Reminds me of gordo's great start and disappointing finish. Same time, next year?
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) Exactly. If you really dig into guy's numbers, your going to see hot and cold streaks everywhere. It's just more noticeable at the beginning of a season. True enough, but Avi's numbers since 8/1/16 are terrific.
  9. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Scouts have considered more than a few games when they suggested that Moncada profiles as a Center Fielder. Among other things, he has tremendous foot speed which would be more of an asset at that position than it would be at second base. Yes, people said that about Tim Anderson, but Moncada's body type looks more like Mike Trout than Anderson's does. Moncada looks like is relatively muscle bound. Perhaps third base if he wants to play the infield. In reality, many young men that are Moncada's age don't like to listen to parents, teachers and coaches so I doubt he will. One thing I might try would be to tell Moncada that CF is there for the taking but second base may not be, especially by the time he is ready to come up. Saladino might nail down that spot down if he continues to play well. There is no way on God's green earth that Saladino nails down second base over Moncada.
  10. The reason is simple. Like it or not, Ricky wants lefties to face Santana, who has pitched lights out so far.
  11. [quote name='miracleon35th' date='Apr 9, 2017 -> 11:13 AM' post='3497074' perhaps Tillerson will be here by June Rex is probably gonna be busy.
  12. The middle letter in Avi and MVP are the same. Eerie, huh?
  13. Sign with the one club you can bash against? Bad career move.
  14. One thing about Harry. Nobody could sell baseball better than he could. He would compare Kevin Bell and Bucky Dent to Robert Redford and Paul Newman. He'd be doing the same thing with our young prospects. Of course that was before he came to despise Reinsdorf and Einhorn, and vice-versa.
  15. I don't see May getting on base enough, and he needs time to get his feet wet at the bottom of the lineup. But this does not appear to be an offensive juggernaut.
  16. Marc Topkin, writer for Tampa Bay Times, tweets that the Rays are trying to get Bourjos. Talk about a blockbuster!
  17. I'd like to see them roll the dice on as many unproven youngsters (rather than proven mediocrity) as possible. Meaning May over Burgeous, Delmonico over Davidson, Hayes over Leury Garcia (not exactly a pair, I know, but I'm talking roster spot in this case), etc. Rebuilding time is the time to find out what you have as much as possible.
  18. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 07:04 PM) I'm still pushing for Ghost Hawk. Input your voice, output Hawk's voice. Problem solved Wait...haven't they been doing that for the last five years?
  19. If The choice is between Anthony Swarzak or Tommy Kahnle, you really can't go right.
