The difference is the contract is not gaurenteed, and in the NFL, you have a hard salary cap

I think by doing this, it allows the Tribe to save the money that they would have to shell out during arbitration and come when all the contracts expire and they're due big paydays, the Tribe will have the money to keep them, and a second round of long contracts
