Early in the season when the Royals were hot everyone said they would fall to earth. When they did, writers slapped themselves on the back. Then the Royals took first again, and suddenly it was 'oh no, they must be for real'. I'll bet if we get in first place there will be tons of stories about how the Royals aren't for real.

Why would we be pushing hard for a fifth starter? We have four pretty good ones. Picking up a fifth starter would only deplete our minor leagues for a guy who'll be gone after the year is done.

The bashing of the Sox and USCF would bother me if it were ever original. Some people revere Wrigley and Fenway; others say that both are outdated and overrated. Why do the media always take the former opinion? There was a discussion on local radio about contracting eight baseball teams to improve the overall quality. One of their cut teams was the Sox because 'they'd still have baseball in Chicago'. Seriously, how many Sox fans would go to the dark side if for some reason the Sox were contracted or moved?

All we have to do is rally from seven games back, win two improbable playoff series, and then we get home-field advantage in the World Series! I wonder if Frank watched the game.
