Yahoo report; Coming of age
2nd_city_saint787 replied to 2nd_city_saint787's topic in Pale Hose Talk
ugh whyd it do that.... http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy its the link that says 25 who will come of age, its right under the pic of the tampa guy -
I was on yahoo sports going to check out the MMA section and on the front page of yahoo sports they have a report called Coming of age 25 to watch, its about 25 year olds that are going to have a breakout season. they have swish and owens up there, and they "fearlessly forecast" there projected numbers swisher- 540 at-bats, .265 BA, 34 HR, 98 RBI, 102 R, 3 SB who is ranked 3rd on the list (i failed to mention they rank em too) Owens- 390 at-bats, .269 BA, HR, 16 RBI, 61 R, 35 SB ranked 24th a few personal thoughts -I see swishers BA to be atleast 10 points higher then they got him, the other numbers i think are about right though is hes batting in the top 3rd of the lineup i can actually see him scoring around 110 runs - does owens get 390 ABs??? they even said in the report that he'll be a utility OFer. i see him gettin around 250 ABs and used a lot as a pinch runner so yes the 35 sb sounds about right. 61 runs as a utility OFer naw, dont think so, 45 tops. -Brian anderson is also listed in the section called other notable 26ers. the only way he becomes notable is if hes dealt and still what team would give him enough playing time to become "notable". http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/mlb/news;_...mingof**e020608

Noah Lowry/Matt Cain (for some reason?)

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 01:25 AM) No, he had it right. Neither of Penny or Lackey will be hitting free agency after the '08 season, they both have insanely cheap team options for '09 that will be picked up. ahh my mistake, i was just lookin at the names, i didnt bother lookin at the other s***. oh well any of those 3 would make me pretty damn happy. Im also with everyone else on Oliver Perez, i remember picking him up on my fantasy team a few years back and i would honestly get disappointed if he K'd less then like 7 guys a start... i wasnt disappointed that much. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2008 -> 12:01 AM) Sheets, Garland, Penny, Lackey and CC seem to be the only ones on there who actually would be worth even thinking about. I fixed it for ya id go 1.CC 2.Lackey 3.Garland 4.Sheets 5.Penny that was referring to the order in which id try to get one of em but wow if we do some how get lincecum or cain, or we do end up wit lowry and he actually puts up numbers here like he did last year or 2 years ago and then next season we grab one of these guys....could you imagine.... 1. Buehrle 2. any of the 5 mentioned 3. Vaz 4. Lowry 5. Danks MERCY! but ya not gonna happen lol -
Now that Santana is Traded To The Mets/ Go for Crisp
2nd_city_saint787 replied to Cleats67's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd only do this if we can for sure trade dye or quentin as well and thats only if one of those bring in a significant upgrade. like maybe a Dye/quentin and danks/floyd/bullpen guy for a proven starter. Or if you can deal PK which i really dont wanna do. overall i say no to Coco, i think owens could be just as good. -
QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) If you thought Mackowiak was bad in CF, just wait 'til we see Ozuna. What about movin swish to center when Ozunas out there?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) I totally agree. I mean Swisher is 27 (and signed for 4 years with a option for a 5th), Quentin is 25, Fields is 25, Owens is 26, Richar is 24, Danks is 22, Floyd is 24, Jenks is 26, and Buehrle is still only 28, and we've got a top 10 pick in this years draft...no future whatsoever. GOOD POST

If the season started today what would our starting lineup look like??? I'd like Owens to have a good ST and make the lineup. 1. Owens CF 2. Cabrera SS 3. Thome DH 4. Awesome Kong 1b 5. Swisher LF 6. Dye RF 7. Fields 3b 8. AJP C 9. Richar 2b if owens ends up doing horrible i guess id have it look like this 1. Cabrera ss 2. Swisher cf 3. Thome dh 4. PK 1b 5. Dye rf 6. Fields 3b 7. AJP c 8. Quentin lf 9. Richar 2b

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 14, 2008 -> 02:46 AM) Lofton left the White Sox on bad terms, he's not coming back here. Carlos Silva signed with Seattle before Christmas. thats the third time i made a request for someone who was already signed...could someone update the FA list??
-
Id like to bump this thread, if we cant get figgins im all for bringing in lofton on a 1 year deal. maybe he can teach jerry owens a thing or 2 in the process of being here. also instead of finding the Carlos Silva thread ill post it here, whats the latest on him??? I think hes the best FA SP available. these signings of course only happen (probably) if we can get rid of Crede and Uribes contracts.

QUOTE(JFields27 @ Jan 14, 2008 -> 12:11 AM) that link and quote has been thrown around more then Tony Romo's vacation with Jessica Simpson and the Cardinals signed Cesar Izturis in the offseason, they are pretty high on him since they signed him to a 3 year 9.9 mil contract. He'll make 4 mil this season and 5 mil next season, so hes going to be their starting SS .. but yeah Im sure they would tkae someone like Richar but I dont see it happening and the rockies signed Marcus Giles to a minor league deal with a ST invite ahh gotcha, i didnt know either about either signings...marcus giles was signed to a minor league deal wow didnt he used to be good lol..... any idea as to why the sox only want 2 players in return??? its not like any of these guys are being paid a lot
-
QUOTE(DaGame2584 @ Jan 14, 2008 -> 12:08 AM) NO WAY the Rockies do that deal. what about for Hirsh?? they spent money on 3 veteran SP so im sure they can make one of there guys expendable to upgrade at 2b
-
Ive looked through about 75% of this thread and havent seen this link so i thought id post it up. http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/news/arti...sp&c_id=ana Among the names the White Sox reportedly have interest in are second baseman Howie Kendrick, third baseman Chone Figgins and pitcher Ervin Santana. All three would not be involved in a deal, with Chicago apparently seeking a package of two players. that seems pretty strange to me, if they can get more then 2 players that can help out then why dont they??? if they were gonna get just 2 players from this is how i would do things id pick Kendrick and Figgins this would give you 1. Figgins CF 2. OC SS 3. Swish 1b 4. Thome DH 5. Dye RF 6. Fields 3b 7. AJP C 8. Quentin LF 9. Kendrick 2b (kendrick then moves up to the 2 spot after OC leaves next year) this makes Richar expendable and there are 2 spots i can see that would work for us. The cards can REALLY use infield help they have Adam Kennedy playing 2nd who did nothing last year and is an injury risk...there backup is listed as Brenden Ryan who is also listed as there starting SS, so i think its obvious that they could use Richar. Id shoot a Richar and Floyd for Brandon Thompson who was pretty good down the stretch. or (and i like this much better) does anyone know how high the rookies are on Jayson Nix??? he batted .251 with two home runs, 14 doubles, and 26 RBI in 103 games for the AAA sky sox, that doesnt look like a Major league starting 2b. id shoot a Richar and a reliever for Ubaldo Jimenez or Franklyn Morales deal. The Rockies signed 3 veteran SP (Josh Towers, Mark Redman, and Kip Wells) this off season so im sure theyd like atleast one of them in the rotation so them sending away Jimenez or Morales to upgrade at 2b would make some sense. Also I could be wrong but didnt the rookies pen suck aside from Corpas and Feuntes?? the above lineup with a pitching staff that looks like... 1 Buehrle 2. Vaz 3. Count 4. Danks 5 Thompson or Morales or Jimenez ...could be good for 2nd place and a wild card spot (injuries to some tiger players could win us the central)

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 12:08 AM) Here you go sir. CHICAGO -- The first incarnation of Aaron Poreda's athletic career would have made him a more likely first-round pick for the Chicago Bears, as opposed to the White Sox. Poreda actually stood out on the gridiron for Campolindo High School in California, earning second team All-Conference honors in 2004 as a defensive lineman. But as of his junior year, Poreda decided baseball was the career path best-suited for him to follow. On Thursday, shortly after 3 p.m. CT, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound southpaw completed the climb from a walk-on hurler at the University of San Francisco to an individual who could be contributing on the South Side of Chicago as a Major Leaguer in the next year or two. The White Sox selected Poreda with the 25th pick of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, sounding after the selection as if they were quite satisfied with the addition. "One of the things we were emphasizing for this particular ballpark, which is pretty much of a home run hitters ballpark, is someone who can sink the ball and put the ball on the ground," said Duane Shaffer, the White Sox senior director of amateur scouting, who was part of the front office brain trust arriving at the Poreda pick. "This guy had the best sinker we saw all year from a college left-hander," Shaffer said. "This was a guy we focused on and we were fortunate enough to get at 25." Asked to describe himself as a pitcher during a Thursday evening conference call with the Chicago media, Poreda defined his style as "a big lefty that loves to throw strikes and force contact." His fastball tops out around 97 mph, but usually ranges from 91 to 96 mph. A slider and changeup complete his repertoire, although Poreda added that he has been working on a cutter. Confidence also seems to play a crucial role in Poreda's success, judging by his comments made in regard to his Major League preparedness at the present time. "Physically, I would be ready to compete at the Major League level," said Poreda, who doesn't have much more filling out or physical growth to do, based on his current size. "I need to critique a couple of pitches and work with the White Sox coaches. Whenever they want to bring me up, I'm more than ready. "I need to develop full command of my slider, but it has been a great pitch for me already. Every day, it seems to be getting better and better. My changeup has been a great pitch, but if I throw it more and more, it will be there. My fastball is Major League ready." As a junior starter for the Dons during the 2007 season, Poreda finished 7-6 with a 2.89 ERA over 14 starts. Poreda struck out 66 and walked 18 in 99 2/3 innings, and although he led the San Francisco staff in strikeouts over the past two years, he has the makings more of a control pitcher than a power arm. "He's a ground ball pitcher, at least that's what I think," Shaffer said. "He's a guy who can pitch with his fastball, he can pitch to contact and he's going to get a lot of outs that way because his ball sinks so much." This strong effort as a junior from Poreda followed a sophomore campaign, marking his first time moving from the bullpen to the starting rotation, in which he posted an 8-5 record with a 2.49 ERA. Shaffer watched Poreda pitch three times personally this year, in January, March and during his last game in May, and the White Sox saw Poreda 15 times cumulatively. Assuming Poreda signs quickly, and he gave every indication Thursday that he planned to be part of the White Sox family, Shaffer felt Class A Winston-Salem would be a good starting place for the left-hander. Poreda said he hadn't watched a White Sox game recently and being from the East Bay area, he actually thought the Giants might have selected him with the 22nd overall pick. "I thought that I had a good shot of going to the Giants, but now that I'm a White Sox, I have a new favorite team," said Poreda, who was teammates at San Francisco with Stefan Gartrell, the White Sox 31st-round pick in 2006. "I can't wait to have the White Sox tell me where I'm going to go so I can get this process started." Pitchers have been the White Sox top selection in each of the last three drafts, with Poreda following Lance Broadway (2005, 15th overall) and Kyle McCulloch (2006, 30th overall), marking the first such stretch since the team's drafts from 1974-76. But Poreda appears to be a bit less polished than the two previous hurlers, who practiced their craft at Texas universities. But the White Sox made clear over the past few weeks that they were looking for the best available talent, a player who could be a little rawer in regard to baseball skills, but could develop into something special at the Major League level. The White Sox seemed to hit their target via the one-time defensive and offensive lineman turned frontline pitcher. "We were always looking for the best player, the highest-ceiling athlete, the All-Star type guy," said Shaffer, who mentioned there was a position player of interest available with Poreda, but the White Sox opted for the pitcher. "He can pitch with his fastball. His secondary stuff, it needs some work. "There's no question about that. You don't get a 6-foot-6 lefty, who throws 91-to-95 [mph], unless there's a glitch here and there. But we think we can work that out fairly quickly and get him on his way." It's looking like: 1: Fastball 2: Slider 3: Changeup 4: Cutter i just found it interesting that the sinker wasnt listed on here. whats going on with this guys now-a-days, hes intrigued me outta all the guys ive read about. wheres he gonna start the season at? about how many years before he hits the bigs?....i just started looking at this section of sox talk and i like it, good job fellas.
