  1. Time to get that best offer out there-quit jerking around before we lose the second best option at CF We then will have accomplished getting the outfield fixed
  2. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) Yep...Rowand would be great for the Sox...but not for over $10 mil a year. Sorry A-Row, but hustle and one awesome year at the plate doesn't make you an elite player. Pay the market price, or hello Jerry Owens
  3. We dont have to trade anyone to get Aaron-thats why we do it at this point-then you have some players to trade for one of the other needs. Filling a need with a free agent is key-we just dont have enuf to trade to fill several holes.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) I'd rather have this deal for Wood than Linebrink's deal. To refer to another thread, our organization is a mess
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) It's comments like the one he made yesterday which make me have zero faith in him to do the right thing. Looking back on it, I can't believe he signed Uribe to that deal if he had an intention to trade our best trade chip, Garland, for a SS. I fear change, and Williams trades
  6. QUOTE(max power @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) I think I'd rather have fukodome for 10 mil than rowand for 14. At least I know rowand isn't worth 14. Maybe he is if Hunter is worth 16-thats the market, fans, get in or be left behind.
  7. Just remember that we have improved the pen, on paper, without giving up anyone. For that, I am happy. I also got a feeling that Kenny was advised that Hunter was signing w/Angels before he made this deal.
  8. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 07:39 AM) Sorry to say, but if the Sox not signing Hunter means that we do not have to see Hunter at 38 in a Sox uniform patheically trying to play CF, I am sort of glad to see thsi deal not get done. There are other and perhaps more effective ways to spend money. I agree-I am disappointed, but we gave it as big a shot as it deserved. And dont ever under-estimate that astro-turf factor.
  9. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) Including his 10 innings in the bigs last season, Broadway had some decent numbers (peripherals) after the break. 71.2 IP, 69H, 7 HR, 33BB, 70K but only a 5.05 ERA. Sometimes it just kicks in for a young pitcher. what a coup if it happens for both Floyd & Broadway
  10. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) That hasn't stopped KW from trying to acquire him in the past via trade. Now certainly that is not the same as trying to sign a Boras client, but if the interest in the player exists, I don't think these are still the days where KW will ignore him because of the agent. Perhaps if this was the offseason after 05', but I don't believe so anymore. I think if Hunter signs with Texas, Kenny will turn some interest to Jones. He sort of, has to
  11. No regrets if we turn that down
  12. To you, Jon, gonna miss those ground outs in our launching pad. All my hopes to you
  13. The problem is, if you all remember, Gooch hits right handers better than left handers-so the platoon with a left handed hitter wouldnt produce
  14. Next time the Cubs get an original idea will be the first-
  15. I am now considering Hunter a lost cause-nice effort and offer by us. They'll be no "hometown discount" here
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) I really do not want to beat this into the ground, but when we spend 90% of our time worrying about how a player will fit into the payroll, and 10% how they fit on the field, it seems out of whack. We really do not know how much they can spend. The payroll always feels fair, but who knows. I also think it kills the casual fans and kids from becoming avid fans. But hey, debate on. It takes armchair GMing to greater heights, and that's good. Everything increases-from Interest Rates, to taxes, to Utility bills. For a baseball team to feel its exempt from increasing payroll expenses is ludicrous-unless you want to be Pittsburgh or kansas City. You are right-I dont worry what it costs them to provide me with a good team-they get 27 games of my $-
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 08:39 AM) That interview is a perfect nutshell of why I love Brooks Boyer. He is perfectly honest, and doesn't insult the intelligence of the fans by spewing company line BS. This guy is so incredible, and the Sox are lucky to have him. He is fresh air in a time when its hard to trust & believe those in team management. He clearly is a rep for the fans
  18. QUOTE(joeynach @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) All 3 of those guys u mention were younger than Hunter when they hit the market. Hunter is 32 those guys were like 29 or 30. Therefore logic deduces that Hunter does not deserve the same value as those guys who got 6-7 years and 100-120 mil. He deserves more like 4-5 at 13-15 Mil. Now if some idiot team like the rangers swoops in they might offer him 6 years 100 Mil, but then its up to Hunter to weigh playing in that craphole market and for that craphole franchise that is going no where versus a fair but not excess deal from the sox. "The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that: Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right; greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms, greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge — has marked the upward surge of mankind and greed, you mark my words — will not only save Teldar Paper but that other malfunctioning corporation called the Torii Hunter. " Gordon Gekko at the GM Meeting
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) Quite frankly, $70 mill is an insult of an offer to Hunter. This regime has made insulting offers before to make the player look greedy & get them off the hook. If this is your #1 goal-treat it like one
  20. He did have a cool "angry" picture on the board when he was up
  21. Then we gotta go thru this again next year-with that lesser class.
