  1. I sure as hell don't want them to tear the place down (or play somewhere else for that matter). I can't imagine Chicago without Wrigley Field, and I don't particularly like the place either. It just needs a renovation.
  2. Shin-Soo Choo looks to be on the verge of getting out of his little commitment. I dunno why I thought it was a World Baseball Classic victory... http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/11/...y-from-freedom/
  3. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) The guy had 2 RBIs in 88 PAs for us, no friggin' thanks. He was picked up by the Sox (who were hopelessly looking up at the Twins) with like 3 hours left in the regular season and was coming off an injury that dwarfed his playing time earlier in LA. I really think that with a full season he could still be good.
  4. I'm good as long as they don't mess with the black tops. The road grays remind me of watching Sox@Toronto games on WCIU in the middle of the week late in the season after both are out of contention.
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ql3z3foLmE One year deal with incentives would be a win. Still loads to do with the pen even if this gets done.
  6. QUOTE (chwhtsox @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) I just read that on mlb trade rumors but there's no link to confirm. In a panic, I went to whitesox.com and couldn't find anything there. Can anyone confirm or deny? lol this thread is pure.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) The problem with Morgan isn't cynicism or pronunciations. Its the fact that he is just so ignorant, as well as racist. He's a terrible announcer. The pronunciation part is directed at Miller. I don't know, he/they may have their faults but most who call games will. I haven't ever been overly critical of announcers though. Racist? I'm not disputing you, and this isn't the first time I'm hearing the word applied to Morgan, I just haven't really seen anything like that stand out. In the end I tune in to watch a baseball game. I've only ever muted a tv call during Sox games- not that I dislike Hawk and DJ/Stone, I just like listening to Ed Farmer share his thoughts on the various life topics that come up during his call of Sox games.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) REJOICE!!!!! I'll miss Morgan and Miller. I know its the popular thing to hate on them in a very exaggerated way but those are the voices I was used to for Sunday Night Baseball. They were nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be. Cynicism and questionable name pronunciations don't bother me at all. I hoped they would at least stick to the radio call, but I guess that isn't happening. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) Derek Jeter to get paid like he's prime A-Rod? http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=5781611 I've always defended Jeter. But this is ridiculous if accurate. I want Marco Scutaro to have a monster year, and every baseball he hits against the Yankees is a dribbler just out of the reach of their shortstop. And I hate the Red Sox.
  9. Great for Posey that he won a World Series and all, but I think with that staff you could probably fare just as well with a netted backstop calling games behind home plate. IIRC he wasn't even a catcher until fairly recently. Don't get me wrong, he got called up and really helped SF out, but its far too early to throw words like Joe and Mauer into the same sentence as Buster Posey and the less than a full season he has under his belt (even if it did include a title run). I'd like for AJ to come back for one more year. You already probably have Morel at 3B. Add Flowers at C and a potential Dayan sighting at 1B and you might as well just call it a rebuild. I can't see all three of those guys being everyday starters next year unless the division is wildly out of reach.
  10. Wilson is funny as hell. I heard Jim Rome interviewing him towards the end of the NLCS. Pure. Hearing him talk about destroying souls on the mound was great stuff. Hearing him compare the Giants infield/outfield to specific zoo animals was also great. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) I also hope Cliff Lee gets demolished. It was a real nice gesture on the Yankees part to loan them their pitcher. Giants in 5 And it came to pass.
  11. I read both papers, much prefer the Trib, but I like to read, so Sun Times is always checked up on. You can't just fabricate s*** as you please. I understand that some here might dislike Cowley, but c'mon, tabloid? You're wrong. It doesn't mean s*** that one or both teams deny it. There has got to be at least *some* truth to this. It probably didn't go as far as Stanton for Ozzie, but the Marlins could have been granted permission to talk to Ozzie and Stanton may have been on the list of people the Sox gave the Marlins. Nothing more, nothing less. Hardly tabloid s***.
  12. Awesome how they use the Fox NFL music now. That ought to boost the ratings...
  13. The Phils are my 1A, but I didn't feel anywhere near bad when the Giants took care of them in the NLCS. I just find myself liking this Giants team- partly because of him (though not neccesarily Rowand). Uribe was one of my favorites in his time here and will probably end up being one of my favorite Sox overall. The fairly significant role he's had in the Giants winning since the 'CS makes it great to watch.
  14. Why does every NBA game I watch that trends toward a blowout in the first half inevitably end up coming down to the final minute or two? I'm getting tired of this. You're down twenty points at the half but you'll probably be within two 6 minutes into the 3rd quarter. I refuse to believe that your head coach throws a Lombardi or Rockne at you in the locker room every time you're getting had. I also find it hard to believe that the team that kicked your ass for two quarters decides they can take it easy on you right after the half with two quarters to play- an animal would be observant enough to see that if this is a recurring scenario (it is, it happens in like half of the games played on a given day) then probably it should avoid relaxing. Instead, I'm inclined to think that perhaps officiating wrongly factors into these remarkable comebacks and majestic 18-4 runs. I find it a lot more difficult to watch an NBA game start to finish than MLB or NFL games because of this. Thanks are in order to the Celtics, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade for facilitating an 0-1 Heat team. This is probably as good as it will get, but I'll enjoy it.
  15. I love storm weather. I was looking forward to it. Kind of feel let down. I'll take this wind when its 90 outside June-August though...
  16. They are a good team as evidenced by their October success, but *I* personally don't care at all about them. Cliff Lee can't wait to get the hell out of there for NY and I've heard more stories about the glory of Hamilton than the glory of Christ. I'm done with caring about how amazing it is that he stopped shooting heroin so he could resume being a pro ballplayer. That bit was tired about 3 HR's into his AB in last years (I think) HR Derby.
  17. Other than their cool ballpark, theres nothing exciting about the Rangers. Even then, the Giants have probably the sweetest venue in the game. The Giants also have a roster I can really like, and also Juan Uribe. When I held tickets, games against Texas (to me) were in the same category as games against KC and Baltimore. When I watch the Sox on tv next year, games against Texas will be in the same category as games against KC and Baltimore (even if they somehow manage to beat the Giants). My sincerest thanks to the Rangers for putting a damper on the Yankees next World Series berth, but it's time to get taken by the Giants. You're boring. I also hope Cliff Lee gets demolished. It was a real nice gesture on the Yankees part to loan them their pitcher. Giants in 5
  18. /\ Sometime down the line I do actually kind of see AJ returning to coach or manage in some capacity.
  19. Doc wasn't his sharpest, but Charlie Manuel says he hurt his groin early in the game. Btw, anyone notice what looked to be an entire section in the left field upper tank either covered by green tarp or empty? I have a hard time believing the place wasn't sold out, and have no idea why they wouldn't make the entire place available during the NLCS...
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) Eh? Until Edwin can prove to be somewhat consistent I'd say it's a pretty big drop off. We have no f***in clue what we'd get from Edwin through a full year. The same would need to be said, probably tenfold, for Sale. The one good half-year out of the pen doesn't even mean he'll see the same success in a relief role next year- let alone thrive as a starter.
  21. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 05:20 AM) I assume this is sarcasm? He was in the minors for less than a season before being brought up. Yes. My point is Beckham pretty much went from Georgia to the White Sox. The minors were pretty much a formality in his case. Thats why Morel (he of the same draft year) would qualify, and not Beckham.
