Well if it only took him this long to learn from this mistake, hopefully any day now he will learn when to pull a pitcher when they're gassed and how to properly manage a bull pen.

Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) I apologize to any overweight, teenage girl that is in this thread. Now put down the Krispy Kreme, and go run on the treadmill. You have a full season ahead of screaming for every Podsednik grounder to the first baseman. Time to get in shape! Fathom is on fire today. -

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
beautox replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Nice find Beck, looks like some of those highly touted Angel prospects will find there way on another teams roster. heres hoping Jason lands with the cubs, and Zito lands with the padres or dodgers. -
Hack the Planet! but in all seriousness I don't think Visa and the rest of the "payments industry" would let criminal organizations undermine the global economy.

Lets just say the sox did move Garcia + Crede for Santana and Figgins even though KW shot it down, we would still need to move another SP not named McCarthy, Santana or Jose. So who would you move?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) Yeah, but I for one think that just because of the type of pitches Haeger throws, he's guaranteed to be undervalued until he proves himself repeatedly in the big leagues. Teams know how to evaluate a guy who throws 170 innings with a 14-6 record and a 3.07 ERA in a hitter's park at AAA if the guy is throwing 97. But if the guy's throwing a knuckler, he automatically drops down about a dozen levels in value in any trade. I for one think that Haeger is actually an ideal guy to hang onto, because until he proves himself over a couple full seasons in the big leagues, he won't have trade-value to match the numbers he puts up. Agreed. I don't think the sox need another LHP in the pen, not with Thornton and Aardsma, and Haeger as a last opition. I think Haeger in the '07 sox pen is a very good thing, our BP has been the least used in all of MLB for the past two years, and with our collection of power arms all having injury history it would be wise to hold onto him. If we send Garcia back to seattle i would love to get Mark Lowe from them, hes only 23 and would be under our control for a long time. I don't know what he throws but his results are impressive. EDIT: Never mind he went under the knife on the 1st. link also this is what he features: Lowe uses a fastball in the 89-93 range to set up a slider and a change

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 12:16 PM) Exactly. Fields at this point in time is a shadow of Crede. Defensively, it's no contest. Offensively, Fields is totally unknown and Crede has proven he can be a productive ML hitter. Anderson couldn't replicate Rowand's production, I damn ain't betting that Feilds can replace Crede. Not yet, anyway. As seen at SSS Fields, Age 23, SL, 133 games, 358 TC, 24 E, 22 DP, .933 FPCT Crede, Age 22, SL, 135 games, 328 TC, 19 E, 20 DP, .942 FPCT -
Clement, Jones and Mark Lowe for Garcia

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) Rob Neyers Chat: BJ (Chicago): Rob, can you help me out with something? If the White Sox main goal this offseason was to trade one of their starting pitchers to make room for Brandon McCarthy in the rotation, why would they get Santana back from the Angels, Figgins is understood because they need a leadoff hitter and a left fielder, but why Santana? They'd be in the same position as before...unless of course Kenny Williams has another trade lined up that is?? SportsNation Rob Neyer: Well, there's nothing wrong with having six starters, and in fact the White Sox have been pretty lucky the last two seasons in needing only five. But I wonder why nobody talks about Charlie Haeger? Chuck will get his shot this year out of the pen, i hope he sticks and some how some way finds a spot in the 08 sox rotation.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 10:15 AM) Maybe Yuniesky Betancourt? Possibly Rafael Soriano? Other than that...maybe Jurassic or Borch? Riiiiiiight. They are going to want TWO former Mariners. They pretty much dumped Thornton. NOt a chance they take that. If that happens I'll eat my hat. It was a joke -

QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) And the Twins finished in 5th place his first two years. I'm not saying Brian will never make it, but a team going for a ring can't afford to develop players in the big leagues. I advocate bringing in a suitable journeyman who they can rely on next year. If BA plays better than him then great, put him out there. If BA plays like last year then he needs to go to Charlotte and figure out how to play well enough to become a Major Leaguer. In the mean time the White Sox need SOMEBODY who can play major league CF and hit major league pitching at the same time. Mack and BA really hurt the White Sox last season. KW must not allow this to repeat. The twins never had the offense that the Chicago white sox had. If Podsednik would've done his job and Uribe wouldn't have continued to regress; Brian batting 220 would be a non issue, seeing how he showed improvement over the year, and never took his ABs to CF with him. Brian wasn't at fault for the bullpen's strugles, along with all of our pitchers having career worst years. I seriously think BA is going to come to ST and tear it up. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) Are you saying that Brian Anderson will follow in Tori Hunter's footsteps? that is quite a stretch IMO. I can see Brian breaking 20, but I doubt he will ever hit 30 hr's in more than one season. I'm saying that i think Brian has the potential to be as good if not better than Torii, and i wouldn't put it past Brian to steal 20 bags in a season. -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) Okay... The MLB article says otherwise. Don't know what to tell you to believe but ill stand behind Barry Bloom.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) The first part was about Matsuzaka, not Igawa. Sorry, I was unclear. About free agency, I'll defer to you. But was the article just wrong, or does free agency come sooner if you get posted? Got ya. When your posted you forgo FA. The bid has to be accepted and a contract worked out within that time frame or else the bid goes back to the team, and the player goes back to the team posting. If Matz isn't signed within this time frame and the red sox offered him a comperable contract; he will go back to the lions, and next year the lions can post him again, and lets just say for argument that the negoations fail again. in '09 he would be a FA at age 28/29.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) I dont know about Anderson. Torii Hunter vs. Brian Anderson In 1999 in Torii's rookie season he strugled alot, not nearly as much as Anderson, but no less he struggled, he didn't hit 25+ till age 27. I'm expecting the same out of Brian, now if thats going to be in a white sox uniform is another question. Hunter also has spent all of his career at the Metrodome(#19 in park factor). Brian will hopefully spend most of his career in Chicago(#9 in park factor). -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 06:01 PM) All the reports said they weren't bidding. For example, As for Matsuzaka, I was going by this article, which says But I don't know the posting system well enough to back it up myself. What are the rules, then? Is the article wrong? I watched that clip when you posted it before. Movement on his pitches, yes. But the control? Walks/9, k/bb? Thanks for the info on Igawa. As for Matz; upon watching MLB.com's GM meeting special(11/14/06) and hearing Barry Bloom's report, Matz isn't a FA next year, he has 2 more years till FA, and also if the red sox tried to post for him in bad faith(block the yankees, and not attempt to sign him), Boras could goto the players union and the next highest bidder(mets) would get a shot to sign him. also because they've posted 51mil they now have to pay a contract comperable to that.
