  2. I would say, welcome to the chicago white sox Reyes, Anderson and Rasmus. Jerry has made exceptions with faces of the franchise though so i don't know, 7 years is a very long time for a pitcher with as many innings as mark has on his arm.
  3. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) Mo Vaughn put up decent numbers the whole time he was in Boston; GMJ got hot before his contract was up. I ment with regards to the Angels. Matthews is coming off a career year, and i wouldn't be supprised to see this blow up in the angels face. guess i schould've just went with what baseball reference gave me and called him Michael Tucker.
  4. GMJ the second coming of Mo Vaughn?
  5. link I enjoyed the 14min interview with Josh Fields.

  7. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) Undermined the team...if ANYTHING undermined the team, it was Ozzie Guillen's persistence to constantly mismanage the club, never putting them in the best position to win. Funny you mention that, i was looking back at the season. Game 1 Anderson went 2-3 with a double a SO and a BB and 2 RBI, the next game(April 4) guess who was in CF? Mackowiak, wtf is that noise.

  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 11:58 PM) So our choice right now is between expending depth from our minor league organization (and the majors to some extent) to bring in talent from other teams or getting into spending matches with teams that have almost completely opened the checkbook? I see no problem at all with standing pat in this market. In the late 90's, probably culminating in 2000 with ARod and Manny, there was a huge surge in spending, much of it questionable, by baseball's owners as they realized they had more money than they were paying out in salary and decided to use it to try to win games and bring in more fans. Then, for a couple of years, suddenly a lot of those insane contracts dried up, and you just didn't see people matching $180 million or $250 million deals like you'd expect if contracts would keep going up. Teams overspent to bring in talent when they had money, and suddenly the teams who had bided their time a little bit were able to find some potential bargains, like right fielders for $5-$6 million a year and so on. Now suddenly, baseball's revenue stream has expanded again, there are more teams with more money, and there is a lack of people on the market to take advantage of that money, and therefore, we're running into another insane surge of spending, $17 million a year deals for guys in their 30's, weak hitting leadoff guys who rely on speed pushing $10 million a year, $51 million just for the right to negotiate with a pitcher, etc. The smart money is not being spent in the FA Market this year, the desperate money is. The smart money is realizing it's only a matter of time before the teams dumping out these contracts find themselves having overspent their new revenues, leaving themselves hamstrung in the future and creating the opportunity for more intelligent deals for the smart teams down the road. nice post
  10. Yea, i've already seen a WS title and parade on the south side in my lifetime. I wouldn't be against moving dye and a SP or 2 to keep this team competive in this division for a long time.
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) Sweeney could play RF, and I think the Sox could get away with it. But Im not sure what would happen with LF. It doesnt matter, Dye isn't moving. Sign Shannon Stewart to an incentive laden deal to play LF? Or deal Garcia/Vazquez for Humber and Lastsings an outfield of Sweeney Anderson Milledge for the next 6+ years
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) I have a really, really hard time justifying trading Dye, for almost anything. However, Furcal makes alot of f***ing sense right now. i agree, but what do we do with LF and RF? i could see opening the season with one of Sweeney/Fields, but both?
  13. QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) He throws 97! That would explain his high walks. A 1 pitch pitcher with alot of walks means no control. Im not sold on him either but he is young and could still develope another pitch or two and learn to locate pitches better. The way this market is, and the fact Boras is going to proclaim that Zito is in the same class as Steve Carlton, we better get a lopsided deal for Garland, hes young, and under control for two more years on the cheap. The Known(Garland) > The Unknown(Hurley, Danks, Diamond, Volzquez)
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) Diamond is overated.... whatevr we end up recieving from the Rangers I really hope Diamond is not one of the prospects involved. I agree, everything i've read on Diamond is that he is in the same class as Juan Morillo, yes he has a 97mph heater, but he hasn't developed any secondary pitches.
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) I honestly can't imagine Stoneman doing Garcia for Santana straight up. If Kenny got that done, it'd solidify give the Sox in that they'd have two pitchers who they'd control for the next four years (at least). It'd also allow the Sox to make a play for next year's stud Japanese pitcher, who, from the short highlights I've seen, has looked better than Matsuzaka. I really wish I had a name to go with the idea; I know Cheat knows it, as I'm sure someone else (I hope) around here does, too. Since I'm not much of a fan of Josh Fields, I'd offer something like Garcia + Fields for Santana + Izturis. Maicer is a cheaper option than Cintron and has better on-base skills, so Ozzie could do more of a platoon at shortstop with Uribe. I'm giddy of the thought of having Santana in a Sox uniform. If Kenny pulled off something like mentioned above, I'd be content the rest of the offseason, no matter what else (good or bad) happened. Yuu Darvish?
  16. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) If it's a lower-level prospect and KW can't get a good young pitcher for Garcia, sure. I don't think it'll come to that, but I think that KW needs to get what he can for Freddy now. It'd be nice to have a legitimate leadoff hitter that isn't constantly fighting a strained groin and isn't a defensive liability. you realize that near the end of the year Scioscia had to move Chone down the order to the 9 spot because he wasn't producing right? If KW can't get what he wants for one of his SP, then he schould just hang onto him and deal Pods. Giving Sweeney a shot in LF and bat Iguchi lead off, near the ASB someone will come calling for a SP. Just have McCarthy start the year at AAA, if thats the case(which i highly doubt).
  17. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) Of course, Pods can't play defense in LF (much less at CF and 3B as well) and is constantly re-aggravating the strained groin he suffered over a year ago. I'd take Figgins over him in a heartbeat. sure, ill bite. But you would give up Garcia and a prospect to get him?
  18. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) Figgins has a career .345 OBP (not great, but not terrible) and has averaged 57 SBs over the past two seasons. His numbers were down last year, but he's still young, he can play a number of positions, and we'll desperately need a leadoff hitter when Pods leaves. Comparing Figgins to Pods is ridiculous. Podsednik has a career .342 OBP and pods has averaged 49.5 SBs over the same two seasons, Scotts numbers were down last year too. The only thing figgins does better than Scott is play defense, thats about it, and hes a switch hitter. The fact remains they both suck. Once again your overpaying, SP > utitily speedy lead off men with crappy OBP and little to no power.
  19. QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) Unless the team he wants the players from are the ones which sign those FAs. Then he loses out on that player. If KW trades for the player he wants first then that team won't need to sign the FA. Why might a team do that???? To save the money. There are pros and cons to trading early. I think KW usually trades early because he has certain players targeted and wants to make sure he gets them. Like his arguements about Boras, he has a value of his players and value of the other players and will make the trade to get what he wants. There are only so many good pitchers to go around, and luckly KW has a surplus this offseason. If the mets sign Zito more power to them, they just take him of the market. Teams like the Rangers and Yankees will be forced to pony up and vice versa, either way there are plenty of good prospects in teams that are looking to cotend respective farm systems. If not Pelfry and Humber then Hurley and Danks, so on and so on. The names are interchangeable the talent remains the same.
  20. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) Figgins is "teh sux" hes in the same boat and Podsednik and Pierre, this FA class and offseason has shown us that the price for the unknown(Matz) is HIGH and that the price for the known(Zito,Schmidt,Garcia, ect.) is going to be even higher, wait until the dust settles for Zito and Schmidt, KW will get what he wants for one(Pelfry & Humber) possibly two of our starters. You want to give Garcia away for a speedy utility player that had an OBP of .336 and throw in a propsect, hoping that gets the deal done.
  21. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Alternatively, Freddy and maybe a prospect might snag us Figgins. I wouldn't mind him in LF, or even CF.
  22. i wish Boone would finally get his s*** togeather, i've been holding off on that jersey till he figures it out at the ML level.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 12:16 PM) Logan's offspeed stuff is twice as good as Neal's was. I think that Logan can be much more effective vs LHP than Cotts was. +1 Personally i think its a fair deal on both sides, our BP now consists of 3 first round picks! Huzzah! each one has been written off as a bust or constant injury risk. Give Coop and Aardsma some time, its very possible Coop seen something in his mechanics and we could be looking at one of the most dominating BPs in the bigs. also we have four guys that can come in for the K at 95+ for both sides of the plate. RHP Jenks 26 under our control till '11 RHP MacDougal 29 under our control till '09 LHP Thornton 30 under our control till '10 RHP Aardsma 24 under our control till '11 RHP Haeger 23 under our control till '12 I'm not against giving Boone & Phillips a chance in ST for the LOOGY role. ESP is jamie walker is comanding 3yrs/10mil thats just insane.
