  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) I'm just curious as to why everyone is in such a hurry to get rid of Anderson after his first year in the league when Mr. Twins Torii Hunter put up a .689 OPS his first full year in the majors while hitting all of 9 homers. p-a-t-i-e-n-c-e Agreed i was looking over there milb track records and mlb rookie seasons, not mirror images, but pretty close, it takes time, give Brian his fair shake. we already seen the sox win it in our life time and win 90 games the year afterp; traiding Anderson when his value is at rock bottom is stupid.
  2. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 01:04 AM) I get what you're saying. I just don't think we can get to the playoffs next year with multiple young/unproven arms in the rotation (I'm assuming you have Pelfrey in the rotation). I don't really look at McCarthy as that big of a ? when it comes to starting, he has a proven track record. the only real question mark would be Pelfry, and it is what it is, you'd have to accept that risk, and if he falters you've got Phillips and Broadway at AAA and Haeger at the back end of the BP, not to mention what could be brought in from Garcia being delt Volquez/Clippard. The sox have to move 1 if not 2 of our pitchers, the market for above avg pitching is going to be crazy all off season and we can't let them walk and get nothing in return for them.
  3. Crawford is a wonderful talent, but pitching is key for us to sustain sucess in this divsion. I'd prefer to keep a Pelfry, McCarthy and a Clippard. Pelfry has #1 stuff, and both Clippard and McCarthy could be #2s at the very least #3s, add in Broadway, and Locking up MB and maybe even JG longterm and we stay competitive. Even with the strugles of pods, ba and uribe we still won 90 wins, if we can get a little more consistantcy out of SS(Omar) and brian, and so long as we have a body with a pluse out in LF that can catch the ball we schould be fine. Its our pitching that needs help. Early in the year we didn't know if thornton was going to be a bust or not, and hermanson didn't come back, add in Cliff getting hurt and neal forgetting how to pitch, along with the sick joke that was nelson and montero and are BP was horrible. Thats not going to be the case next year, the BP schould be very solid, and i expect us to be in the thick of it till late sept provided we get league avg starting pitching.
  4. "It appears Tampa Bay has won the bidding right for Japanese third baseman Akinori Iwamura. The Devil Rays reportedly outbid the Indians, San Diego and Boston for the left-handed hitter. The Yakult Swallows, Iwamura's club, are expected to announce the winning bid Wednesday or Thursday." DRays Bay
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) It looks like salaries are going through the roof again. At espn.com Jerry Crasnick says a guy like Adam Eaton is going to get a 3 or 4 year deal worth at least $8 million a year, and Juan Pierre is going to get at least $30 million for 3 years. Those would be crazy contracts. When people on here said Pierre would get $8 million a year, I thought they were crazy. Turns out they were just lowballing. Good, im glad Pierre is going to get 3/30 (i just hope its not with the sox) that makes Podsednik look even more attractive.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) I'd rather trade a Heilman to get a Crisp, then to trade B-Mac plus a spect for Crawford but that's just me. I'm with you, but if Garcia is going to Yankees; I'd hope Clippard and Cabrera + _____ are coming back. And from the mets side of things for Vazquez i'd like to see a return of Pelfry + Niese + Humber/Heilman. Heres hoping the Padres land Zito and the Cubs take Schmidt of the market.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) What was the last moves the Yankees made that had Georgy boy's fingerprints on them? I have to go back two years to find the Womack, (All george) Pavano, Wright (heavily George) and Big Unit (George mandated, Cash executed) deals. I suppose you could argue that Damon was George, but there was no arguing that he was a good player, whereas Womack is only a good player on an alternate planet, and Pavano & Wright's one-year-wonder status was not hard to predict. (I compared Pavano to Garland at the time, and Wright was bouncing around AAA teams a year before the Yankees gave him a 3-year deal.) Also, Clippard arguably has a better resume than McCarthy did entering the '05 season when he was considered one of the top prospects in all of baseball, and clearly the Sox top prospect. Clippard has done just as well as McCarthy at every stop and has done most of it while being a year or more younger. At similar stages in their career, Clippard has pitched three straight seasons of full-season ball (about 150 innings each year) while McCarthy had just 165 innings of full-season ball under his belt. It's not like he's a chump. I'd go so far as to say Clippard = McCarthy, hes got the same build, and i read that Clippard is adding a cutter to his aresenal. Your right at saying Clippard is nothing to scoff at. Dealing Garcia to the Yankees for T-Clippard and some other peices and Vazquez to the Mets for Pelfry + +, would set up our rotation for a long time. Sign MB long term. '07 MB JG JC BM MP '08 MB JG BM MP TC/LB/KMc/CHaeger
  8. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) Britton is a reliever, so, meh. Sanchez has injury issues. Hughes will not be traded. Clippard is the name you need to learn here. Durable. High strikeout rate. Good control. Young, or age appropriate for top prospect status, for his league. More info on Clippard from here Tyler Clippard, 21, RHP (SP): 89-92FB, Good 2 seam fastball Above-Avg 12-6 Curveball (75-78) average to plus change, plus command, Excellent control
  9. we have 34 people on our 40 man, we schould drop Sierra. Hes got great stuff but still has no control.
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) .234/.318/.325/.643 in 174 PAs in AA not happening half of those ABs were when the tribe we're trying to convert him back to a 2B, and he has gone on record as saying "he lost focus, and would take his defense to the plate"
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) And Choo, and Hafner, and Martinez, and Sizemore...eek. Agreed, i wouldn't be supprised if they moved Luna and Blake. Also they've got Trevor Crowe('05 1st round pick 14th overall) on the up and coming hes destroying the AFL(.333/.443/.417, 15BB/9SO 3/3SB all in 19Gs/72ABs) I think hes going to get a very long look in ST, he might even win the bid for opening day LF.
  12. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) The talk of any team giving up anything of value for Podsednik is a joke. Every team in the majors has a minor leaguer who can do what Pods does. Podsednik has become a zero-tool player. He can't hit for average (or get on base with any frequency). He has no power. His OF defense stinks. He has no arm. And his speed/baserunning/base stealing has gone from great to merely above average. He is a below replacement level player who is no longer particularly good at any aspect of the game. Is some team going to give up anything of value for him when the best you can say about him is that he used to be fast? I hate it when fans come up with fantastics scenarios where we can get something good in exchange for crap. I'm sorry but im going to have to completely disagree, Podsednik isn't worthless, it just appears that way sometimes. the rox have 10mil to spend on about 5 players. The marlins got 3 good pitching prospects in return for Juan Pierre in his contract year, Scott has two more years in ARB and isn't going to command that much money, if the Rox are looking at Pierre and Roberts they're going to have to give the $ and years, and i doubt they can afford to do either of those things. Podsednik's whole career has been a rollercoaster a good/great year followed by disapointment, i think going back to NL will help him alot. As for "fantastics scenarios where we can get something good in exchange for crap", care to explain to me how the Yankees got a warm body in the form of a promising 23yr old reliever with ML experience for Wright? asking for a one pitch pitcher in Juan Morrilo and A level reliever in David Patton, along with a 24yr old 2B @ A+ doesn't sound very fantastic at all. G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG 162 656 96 181 19 13 2 47 232 41 45 57 17 .326 .354 .276 Pierres '05 139 524 86 137 27 6 3 45 185 54 96 40 19 .330 .353 .261 Pods '06
  13. Send him and Gload packing to the reds for Chris Denorfia or to the yankees for Melky Cabrera, both teams need BP help and a 1B. Gload already has the ring why not go out there and play 1B full time, i think he would put up Mark Grace like stats. Mackowiak can play 1B in a pinch along with Thome & JD, and Rogo is always a phone call away at AAA. If KW really wants that "nasty BP" he speaks of he will sign Walker and Speier and give Haeger the swing man role, and then the only question marks for '07 and beyond are health. Hopefully Logan + Perez + Day + Marshall and Long will continue to develop.
  14. QUOTE(shipps @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 04:57 AM) This guy is going to be a pain in our a**es for a few years.I dont like this one bit. Agreed, take him away from petco, in the tribes line up and a year under his belt, hes definatly going to be a pain, him and garko.
  15. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) Why exactly would the Rockies do this move? Pods is a worse option than what they have. Why would they give up someone who throws that kind of heat. The Rockies are always looking for pitching. Realistically, nobody wants Pods. The Rockies payroll next year is going to be 52 million according to Troy Renck(denver post), as of now their roster sits at $42,850,000 locked up in 19 players. Scott is set to make about 3million in ARB and Dave Roberts is looking for a deal longer than 2 years and might command as much Pierre this offseason. It looks like a good fit for both teams, he would be moving back to CF for the rox . Aside from Morillo, i wouldn't mind the sox getting their hands on any of these other prospects. RHP David Patton BP Prospect RHP Andrew Johnston BP Prospect 2B S Corey Wimberly Lead off potential CF S Dexter Fowler toolsy
  16. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 04:57 AM) And when Omar retires the Sox have SS options where? What opitions do we have after '07 anyways? i don't believe Juan is going to go anywhere but down, i doubt the sox would pick up his 5mil opition for '08. '07 is supposed to be the deepest draft of the past 15 years, draft SS heavy and hope our first round pick can get on the fast track.
  17. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 11:58 PM) I would LOVE nothing more than Anderson and Sweeney patrolling CF/LF respectively, but honestly, can we tolerate their growing pains simultaneously? I think we could provided we deal Uribe for Omar Vizquel, and Scott Podsednik to the Rockies for some of the following prospects: RHP David Patton BP Prospect, RHP Andrew Johnston BP Prospect, 2B S Corey Wimberly Lead off potential, CF S Dexter Fowler toolsy. I think Anderson is only going to improve and won't be a black hole. Omar > Uribe, I also think sweeney could provide the same offense as Scott next year, more power a lot less SB all the while doing it from the 9 hole. Iguchi Vizquel Dye Thome PK Crede AJP Anderson Sweeney I don't think Vizquel would cost much in terms on milb talent maybe some fringe prospects like Rogo and Tracey.
  18. seen this over at SOSH link and for the "the most modern, most advanced technological facility in the country" you can check out some of the advancements they're going to put into place here Also here are some pictures of the purposed stadium, and you can find more information here and here is a picture from google maps of the purposed area, "Land is to the south Bunche Dr. and to the west of Christy St. but north of the marsh/wet land." thank you SOSH poster SoxFanPJ.
  19. a better example maybe? what about the marlins yes its the NL but they broke in Olsen, Nolasco, Johnson, even though Nolasco was eventually replaced by Sanchez. I think we could break in McCarthy and Haeger in '07 and still be just as competitive as we were in '06, if not more so.
  20. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 02:49 AM) When Ryan Manno asked them about their future plans, they said "Let's just get past Riot Fest to start", but they also mentioned that they contacted the promoter to see if they'd be interested in having Raygun play, so it's not like they were coaxed into reuniting. They sounded happy and upbeat, so I'm hoping this is at least a short-term full-time thing. Man, I really hope they at least do the occasional show - they were/are SO good. On the same program, Manno spoke with Oderus Urungus of GWAR, and he mentioned their 20th anniversary release, which is titled Blood, Bath and Beyond. Yeah, they schould just get on the pegboy program, like one to two shows a year in the greater Chicagoland area, thats all im asking for.
  21. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 12:02 AM) Naked Raygun just did two songs on Q101's Crash Test Radio. "Vanilla Blue" and "Home Of The Brave". I am marking out like a fool!!! They still bring it like they always did!!! i was driving home from practice tonight and found an old mix cd, and threw it on. It was all naked raygun/husker du/replacements, Naked Raygun might be getting back togeather to do more shows they recently played riot fest, so one can only hope
