QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 09:05 PM) Guerrero > Adams No love for Guerrero on this board or he just gets lost in the long list of pitching prospects we have. Adams to me is on par with Stephen. Guerrero was my break out prospect for this year and so far he has delivered. I also have him in future iterations of the rotation

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:37 PM) It amazes me to look at that and basically see that they are saying that the Braves and White Sox have like twice as good of a system as the 3rd best team. Agreed I also find it interesting that Callis thinks the yankee system has the most depth, I personally don't see it(its still really good, but the most?). Additionally they're likely to lose 3-5 prospects in the rule V.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:21 PM) I actually thought of Aaron when I was reading some of the reports on Cordell. If he turns out to be Aaron, we can then trade him for Jim Thome in a few years. MRW -

Also I'm sure most realize Mahalanobis Comps are just for fun, but Cordell's comp is Aaron Rowand. a comp outfield of Aaron Rowand(Cordell)/Randy Winn(Engel)/Angel Pagan(Leury) sounds fun. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) How does surplus value work when you already have 5 of these same players and nowhere to play them? Well seeing how Cordell is viewed as a super-sub type and not a true 4th OF he will have plenty of chances to play. Melky and Avi are on their way out and we're likely not going to see any of the big three till Sept of next year with Jimenez so the sox have a year and a half to see what they have in Leury, Engel, Willy, Liriano, Polo, Cordell and Tilson if he can get healthy. Additionally the defense in the outfield will be much improved with Cordell/Engel/Leury over Avi & Melky so thats a win for our young pitching coming up. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) Please explain then what we were doing when we traded for James Shields. How much surplus value did we create? the bed was s*** on that deal. Hopefully that won't happen again going forward. The take away is our LatAm correctly identified and signed a future top 50 prospect. -

Sox traded Swarzak for a 45FV prospect, some might have wanted a younger middle infield type like Lucius Fox. Hahn turned a rec project into 11M of surplus value;its a win. link fangraphs top 25 brewers prospects -

based off what relievers are getting in this climate its a good trade. Leury, Engel, Willy, Rymer, Polo, Cordell & Tilson will all have plenty of opportunities for the next 2.5 years before the "big 3" come up. Ideally one or two of them turn into major league regulars and we find a solid utility player and forth outfielder in out of them. If we get an Angel Pagan and De Aza out of this group we can move them for other pieces the club will need. -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) I think Lopez will absolutely get the chance to remain a starter, he seems to have turned the corner as of late. MLB.com's rankings seems very lazy to me. How do many players increase or drop in scouting reports since the draft for no apparent reason? How is Jeren Kendall a top 100 prospect and FV "55" after being rated a "50" in the draft? 4 good games in rookie ball? Makes little sense given his high strikeout rate. dodger hype

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) Let's see who is left on the team next Monday night before going too nuts about Moncada's spot in the order. For me, Melky gets traded, and Anderson-Moncada hit 1-2 for two months. No bunting before the 8th inning. same, I want both of them to get as many PA as possible even if it gets ugly. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Does any of this discussion change anyone's expectations for the 2020 starting rotation and bullpen? What is your best guess for the pitching staff, based upon the current talent in the organization? My guess would be Rodon (unless he's traded), Kopeck, Lopez, Hansen and Cease. I don't know what to think of Giolito. Do you guys think that he'll make it? Fulmer, Burdi and the rest of the top guys would battle for bullpen spots. Not really I see the '19-'20 rotation like this Kopech Rodon Giolito Guerrero Hansen Burdi Lopez Fulmer I think Giolito makes it even if its less than was initially anticipated.

QUOTE (Anderdale @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 01:41 AM) That's good to know. I've never heard of this guy but his talk on collins had me feeling down There are legit concerns with regards to Collins but having said that there are reasons for hope as well. It would appear to me having watched him a fair bit that he is being a bit too passive at the plate and relying on his discipline instead of being a bit more aggressive when he is up or neutral in the count. Catcher is the hardest position to develop, its not uncommon for people to view 25 to 27 year olds in AAA as "real" catching prospects. If Collins only becomes a .230 hitter behind the dish with his plate discipline and power he will be a regular. I doubt he starts next year at A+ and AA will be a test for his hit tool and moving beyond his discipline as a crutch.
-
my take away was this link not that it matters per se but it'll be an interesting debate through the next three years as too how the Sox, Braves etc stack up as "best farm". I still find it funny that Hansen who was once a consideration for #1 overall isn't getting any love by pipeline esp when you consider how he has performed compared to the rest of the top arms from the '16 draft class, It'll come in time but whatever. As for Collins I understand why he isn't on the top 100, I highly doubt he starts the year at A+ and maybe next year the challenge faced at AA will force him to change his approach as pitchers there don't nibble as much as A+ and he won't be able to parlay his discipline with out focusing on contact in deeper counts.

Lucius Fox from the rays; in fact expand the deal. Garcia + Swarzak + Sanchez for Bauers, Sanchez, Fox & Cabrera -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 06:11 PM) Anyone else listen to Larry talk about Collins on the south side Sox podcast? Yikes, hopefully he starts making more contact. The same larry that s*** all over Semien and said he wouldn't be able to stick in the middle infield much less SS? yeah I listened and rolled my eyes.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) It's like the Bulls and their idea that a poor shooting team could be really good. Why you are making Yoan Moncada give up an AB is beyond me. Exactly, if Moncada hits his ceiling he is a potential 40/40 player -
