  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 06:55 AM) Great write-up! The only thing I disagree on is Lopez not being in the rotation. Thanks and thats fair, like I said pick 5 out of a hat I doubt you'll be disappointed.
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 05:15 AM) I don't think people are sleeping on our first round pick from last year. I think people have legitimate concerns about his future. Although he has made strides as a catcher this year, he will never be more than average there. As a result, his offense HAS to carry him. Now the bar is lower for a catcher offensively, but instead of progressing offensively this year, he seems to have taken a step back due to serious contact issues. I think the concerns about his average are fair but he is still producing at the plate and at the hardest position on the diamond. I feel like people were saying the same thing with Flowers when he was in the system "he'll only ever be average", I didn't buy that then and with Collins and how many solid receivers this system for all its faults has produced, I don't buy it now. His pop time after making a small adjustment improved markedly and is backed up by the stats.
  3. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 04:17 AM) I don't think that rutherford has no power. Remember he is a HS draftee and those usually take a little longer to grow into the power even though he is old for a hs guy. Longenhagen said his game power plays below his raw right now plus he is currently a grounder machine (has slightly improved this year). If he elevates more there probably is more power right now and there is strength to add too. Fg has a 55 future power on him which is around 20 bombs and I think he can get there. His arm plays better in left than in center or right though. So 280/350/450 with some walks and 20 bombs plus above average D in left should be realistic. That would be like a 3.5 WAR player. I seen a comp while going back to his draft day of Brady Anderson minus the 50 HR season and better defense and a bit more average in RF. also came across both of these profile pieces by the yankees on him prospect watch & Orgins: Blake Rutherford
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 05:54 AM) Is it a slamdunk that Shields, who is signed for next year, is gone? I doubt they cut him loose. for '18 Rodon* Shields Giolito Lopez Cobb - or another FA pick similar to Holland.
  5. I previously posted this on /r/whitesox. This is the magical Christmas land line up where everyone lives up to the hype. Not likely I know but I enjoy being able to dream on this farms potential. '19-'20 Batting Order CF Luis Robert 2B Yoan Moncada# LF Eloy Jimenez 1B Gavin Sheets* 3B Jake Burger C Zack Collins* DH Jose Abreu RF Blake Rutherford* SS Tim Anderson I doubt Abreu goes anywhere; He wants to mentor the youth movement and is a great ambassador for the team. When his arbitration is up I think the sox lock him up for 3 more years with an option. Additionally 1B & DH have had their value become depressed recently, I also doubt Hahn would get a return to warrant trading him. '19-'20 Rotation SP Michael Kopech SP Carlos Rodon* SP Lucas Giolito SP Jordan Guerrero* SP Alec Hansen This system is deep in pitching and its almost getting to the point where you can put their names in a hat and not feel bad with what you pull out; Lopez, Dunning, Cease, Fulmer, Adams, Stephens & Clarkin, and that isn't including the '17 draft class. I've been blown away with how quickly Hahn was able to navigate the talent acquisition phase. The system is a great blend of high ceiling and moderate floor, specifically Collins, Burger, Sheets, Gonzalez, Skoug, Fisher, Call & Mendick and the dearth of pitching talent. There are some solid major league growth assets in Rodon & Anderson even with down years and some of the younger players might develop into 2-2.5WAR regulars: Yolmer Sanchez, Leury Garcia, Adam Engel & Matt Davidson, that was something that was desperately missed with the recent roster constructions with Sale, Q & Eaton, stars & scrubs with out a sufficent amount of average major league players and depth. There are some interesting players near mlb ready in Delmonico, Liriano, Willy Garcia & the recently acquired Polo that might stick and turn into something as well. Finally they still have one asset they can sell high and likely cash in for another top 100 prospect in Avi. They will be at the front of the line for wavier claims; like Alen Hansen. They will likely have a top 5 pick in '18 & '19 and complement that with the rule V and major league roster space to stash them. It would be wonderful if they hit the lotto and land the next Odubel Herrera or Joakim Soria. Lastly they will have a plenty of money for the upcoming stacked free agent classes that can supplement this roster going into their window, their adjusted payroll for 2019 is 5.6 million before any arbitration or free agent signings.
  6. As its been posted in this thread already bunts suck. Renteria is as much of a prospect to this organization as anyone in our top 30. Ideally when we're going into '19 he has gone through his own personal growth as a manager and can lead this club to .500 if not handing the keys over to someone else wouldn't be the worst thing if he hasn't improved.
  7. also 101 posts in the minor league game thread, awesome!
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 10:45 PM) Lots of b****ing about Collins in this thread...dude has a .960 OPS in July .282/.370/.590. seriously ohh no a 3K game where he hit a HR... what a piece of s***....after tonight's game .275/.362/.575 - .937 for July! people are sleeping on him and missing the forest through the trees.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 05:58 PM) I'm on phone but did anyone read the BP updated report on Giolito? Made me feel better. this one yeah if he winds up more Gavin Floyd then Roy Halladay that is still a win for us. Floyd's 6 years with the sox 15.4fWAR before his TJ in '13; pretty sure everyone would take that.
  10. I like our catching depth in the low minors, if Hahn was able to move Avi for Kelly I wouldn't be opposed at all. Catchers and their development are weird. I see three catchers in our top 30 with Zavala and Skoug rounding it out.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) What about instead of Machado, we sign Nolan Arenado? If we can't land Machado or he falls off a cliff like Andruw Jones, Arenado will be 29 if the sox sign him going into the '19 season.
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 07:13 PM) Cmon, Beautox, why would Royals give up Lopez? Because he is a 40FV SS in a horrible system, ranked 20th by fangraphs at the beginning of the season and a comparable player value wise to Mendick in our system? and the royals need help in LF/DH for their last Hurrah before their window shuts? I imagine the Sox would be picking up the remainder of his salary as well.
  13. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 08:32 AM) This link isn't taking me to anything about Polo. Am I missing something? weird here you go link
  14. I find Avi's value interesting. He gets two more trips through ARB before hes a FA, hes projected to be worth .5WAR over the remainder of the year. If you think he can produce 5WAR and you take into account what he might be able to get in arbitration 6M next year? 12 the year after, so 18M. If you package him and Swarzak you could put their value for the remainder of this year at 1WAR and Avi at 5 going forward(that might be a bit low) so 6WAR conservatively for both and going forward? thats enough surplus value to get Kelly and an interesting arm maybe on the high end Alcantara, but more likely Junior Fernandez or Austin Gomber.
  15. really enjoying everyone's takes. Michalczewski still has some runway before I write him off he is still just 22 and a switch hitter, next year will be very interesting.
  16. nice piece on Polo from everyone's favorite pirate prospecting site If the sox hit the lotto with Polo we're looking at Alejandro De Aza, the mid point would be rob Mackowiak and the low point would be org filler.
  17. I would of prefered he didn't get the call, there are things he could still stand to learn down at AAA, but this is a bone to sox fans like Josh Nelson etc, with the constant "where is moncada??!??!?!??!" on sports radio and twitter.
  18. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:07 PM) Top 2 incoming Suck for Singer??
  19. I think he winds up back with the royals along with cash for SS Nicky Lopez* or OF/1B Samir Duenez*. BA just ranked both of them at 10 & 9 in their midseason update but the royals system is in shambles.
  20. 1 - Moncada# - 2B 2 - Jimenez - OF 3 - Kopech - RHP 4 - Rutherford* - OF 5 - Robert - OF 6 - Lopez - RHP 7 - Giolito - RHP 8 - Cease - RHP 9 - Hansen - RHP 10 - Collins* - C 11 - Dunning - RHP 12 - Burger - 3B 13 - Fulmer - RHP 14 - Basabe# - OF 15 - Guerrero - LHP 16 - Adams - RHP 17 - Delmonico* - 1B 18 - Burdi - RHP 19 - Adolfo - OF 20 - Skoug - C 21 - Stephens - RHP 22 - Clarkin - LHP 23 - Flores - LHP 24 - Mendick - 2B/SS 25 - Gonzalez* - OF 26 - Call - OF 27 - Fisher* - OF 28 - Sheets* - 1B 29 - Michalczewski# - 3B 30 - Zavala - C I think when pipeline brings out there re-ranking Guerrero shows up again but to me he has been doing an amazing job down at AA and deserves some love. Mendick getting recently promoted to AA as well as his strong glove and profile boost him. Catchers are weird and hard to develop and place which is why three show up on my top 30.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 12:16 AM) The OF talent in A Ball is incredible right now. We've got Jimenez, Basabe, Fisher, & Booker at High A and Rutherford, Adolfo, Gonzalez, & Schnursbusch at Low A. And that doesn't include Call & Robert who should theoretically be at ones of those levels right now. agreed, and you figure top 5 picks for the '18 & '19 drafts...sign me up. Sox still have Avi that can be moved and Abreu as well since its very unlikely Robert is up while Jose is around.
  22. This is a good deal for the white sox Rutherford's "value" is roughly 38M. I look at the deal like this Kahnle for Rutherford (i was expecting a return of two back half pieces for him say Bauers and Sanchez from TB) instead they got a top 30 prospect in baseball to along with two other studs in Jimenez and Robert Robertson for Clarkin - based off the $ remaining on his contract and the sox not eating any and the returns for doolittle and madson this seems right. Frazier for Polo & Clippard - I previously expected Frazier to bring back Swihart and Bell from the red sox so Polo if he becomes a 4th outfielder is a win. Hahn could've possibly gotten more by holding out on Kahnle but the FO loves Rutherford and they decided to be risk adverse in this situation, thats fair and its returned the sox another top 100 prospect and a LHP who could thrive in our system and a possible fourth outfielder for the next competitive white sox team. Congratulations to Hahn and Cooper for turning Gordon Beckham into Yency Almonte into Kahnle into Blake f***ing Rutherford. the take away Gordon Beckham is the gift that keeps on giving.
