QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 05:29 PM) Also remember how the Broncos completely changed their offense mid season to suit Tebows strengths. Most teams want a QB who can come in and run the offense, and there just aren't that many that suit his strength. Where he has been signed it's been people trying to get him for a specialty role, but it's tough to have such a limited player. All three of the other guys showed massive improvement in their 2nd year. Tebow got worse. The raw numbers are also a little misleading, as passing stats have become hugely inflated. For instance, the average QB rating in 1983 (when Elway was a rookie) was 73.1. The average QB rating in Tebow's rookie season was 82.5.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 05:17 PM) Off to jail for contempt of court http://www.ajc.com/news/news/national/kent...arriage-/nnXdL/ Her lawyers argued that she can't be found in contempt because it's literally impossible for her to comply with the order. They actually argued that. It's IMPOSSIBLE. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) I mean as Huckabee is saying it, because there isn't a law saying that I can adopt a cat from a shelter, I can't adopt a cat from a shelter. I think that is 100% backwards. Civil Marriage is essentially a government action, not something people just do freely without interference from the govt*. The law presumably says something like "Kentucky can marry a man and a woman and then X, Y, Z legally results from that". Huckabee seems to be saying that Kentucky would need to introduce a new law saying "Kentucky can marry two people and then..." for SSM to be okay. In reality, the SCOTUS isn't nullifying the entire marriage law, just the "a man and a woman" conditional. [*people can freely have religious ceremonies and call themselves married but that's not related to county clerk or licenses or any of this] -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) If you follow Huckabee's 'logic' through to its conclusion, he's saying that unless a state has an explicit same-sex marriage law on the books, nobody in that state has the authority to issue a marriage license to same sex couples in the first place. It's not about whether she has committed an illegal act but how Huckabee seems to have a deep misunderstanding of the basic function and structure of our government. Wouldn't Huckabee's position require that the SCOTUS decision did not merely invalidate the "man+woman only" aspect of the KY marriage law, but invalidated the entire law, making all marriages in KY impossible? -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 08:25 PM) Does Chicago finally lead the world in killings per month? Per year? In the world? Are you joking? Chicago probably wouldn't be in the top 250 in murder rate.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) She gave birth to twins five months after divorcing her first husband. They were fathered by her third husband but adopted by her second Also the third husband was the step-father of the first husband, and the fourth husband is his own grandpa. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) No...not petty. If you are going to claim gays are ruining the sanctity of marriage when you yourself are ruining the sanctity of marriage, then you are a total hyprocrite and any religious / personal stand goes away because you don't act in that manner. What a pathetic person. PS: Not only married 4 times, but her first marriage ended when she got pregnant with twins from someone other then her husband. The baby daddy was her 3rd husband. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 07:45 PM) I hadn't hear this story, or a rebuttal to it. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/09/01..._n_8071696.html Seems like a non-issue unless one ignores that the carbon dating provided a 77 year range rather than a single date.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 02:54 PM) Yeah you would think. Where are the other county officials? Why aren't they stepping in to put some pressure on her? Because then they'd be persecuting a Christian who is just following her faith. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 01:17 AM) Why is that belief a bunch of bulls*** as you stated? You die and your spirit goes to a better place. Obviously your body doesn't because when you see a dead body you are fully cognizant of the fact there's nothing there. It's not going anywhere except the ground or a cremation bin. But the spirit does move on to a much better place. What reason is there to believe this is true though? My memories, personality, feelings, thoughts, goals, desires, etc are a product of, and reside in, my brain. When I die, my brain will rot and all of these things will be destroyed. What evidence is there to believe that a unknown force uses an unknown process to make a copy of all these things and sends the copy to an unknown place? -
Kinda weird. Denali is definitely a cooler name though.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) While this may just be because I'm in the industry and it's about time a movie/show came around that wasn't an insult, the USA show Mr. Robot with Christian Slater is amazing. I highly recommend it...and if you ever had a question as to what computer "hacking/cracking" actually looks like, you'll see it here. Of course, the show is much more than just that, as it's also filled with drugs, sex and action. This thread has been hyping Mr Robot for a while now. Welcome to the party

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) It's not a comfortable subject for discussion among Christians, but don't forget that along with the belief of a good supernatural being, there is also belief in a bad supernatural being. As humans we are incapable of being perfect and as such, that gives the bad supernatural being some level of control over the world. Ultimately, any power or control held by that evil being is given/allowed by God, since he could erase the evil being at any time. That he does not seems to lead back into the "works in mysterious ways" box. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:45 AM) I just think he's brilliant and one of the greatest individuals to be President. His intelligence cannot be questioned. And he is full of faith in God, so I see it only natural as I would point to Jimmy as somebody to solidify my position that there is a God. You haven't given any explanation for why you think he's so intelligent, or why a single intelligent person being Christian solidifies that belief when one can easily find intelligent individuals who support every belief. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 03:39 AM) I don't know about that. Like I was saying, some ultra intelligent people (JIMMY CARTER) believe in the whole entire shebang. God as master of the universe; sitting on a throne, etc. You can't deny some INTELLIGENT people believe and are not believing to be controlled. I'm not sure what your obsession with Jimmy Carter is all about or why you think he is "ultra intelligent"... -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 01:33 AM) Religion has simply been an attempt to control the middle class and poor throughout history and keep them relatively passive/obedient. Religion occurs even in societies or groups without any significant hierarchy. They typically serve many purposes including explaining the unknown, maintaining order in society via moral codes, and uniting individuals into a group to achieve common goals. Elements of culture are subject to selection just like genes. Religions have tended to be some of the most successful cultural adaptations in history. I think it's a little conspiratorial to imply that religious leaders are all just power elites looking to control people rather than devout believers themselves. There certainly are charlatans, of course (I'm looking at you Prosperity Gospel preachers and cult leaders). -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 10:05 PM) edit: and others have said, you're on a message board on the internet. Members here are mostly "young," mostly affluent liberal people, i.e., the ones most likely to not be religious. Don't forget "white" and "male" two other demographics that tend to be less religious. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 07:30 PM) That's why I quantified with the term "more or less". I think the bible has errors and exaggerations just like any other historical account might. Fair enough. I also edited my previous post with one additional question. You may have missed it because you replied before the edit went through. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) It has come from quite a bit of study of both theology and history. It mostly boils down to (1) the time of Moses is when the bible transitioned from a recording of stories that had been handed down over generations to an eyewitness or second hand account of events shortly after they occurred and (2) archaeological evidence and extra-biblical historical documents confirming several details of stories contained in that time frame. 1) I'm not sure how that has been established. Most scholarship places the writings of much of the OT in the 7th-5th centuries BC, far too late to be first or secondhand accounts of the patriarchs, Exodus, conquest, judges, and united kingdom. 2) How do you reconcile all the archaeological and extra-Biblical evidence which is problematic for these stories? For example, the problems with The Exodus, the (non)invasion of Canaan, and the importance of Judah versus Israel? Also, even if the accounts were written around the time of the supposed events, and they contain some accurate information about geography/political leaders of the time, why would that cause you to think the extraordinary details of the stories are true? As an example, stories about Joseph Smith were undeniably contemporary to his lifetime and have many references to easily confirmed places and people, yet I doubt you believe he met an angel or transcribed tablets using seer stones. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 05:19 PM) So God doesn't want gay people to get married? Interesting. If you're a Bible believer, that would be the obvious conclusion. The Hebrew god views consensual gay sex as being worse than some forms of rape. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 01:57 AM) When you guys first got your driver's license, did you buy a car/did your parents get you one? Or neither Neither. I occasionally used my mom's car, which she eventually gave to me when I was 20 because she bought a new one.
