  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) And so now Im somewhat confused. If the second person knew she wasnt pregnant, why was she going to PP to get a blood pregnancy test? It sounded like she did it to confirm the first woman's story by having it happen to her so she could out PP as evil liars...but she hushed with a settlement too?
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 09:01 PM) See, that's definitely the least plausible part. There's a PP clinic that routinely lies to women about false-positive pregnancy tests and attempts to pressure them into getting an abortion NOW? And somehow the best anti-PP activists can do are those terribly edited and misleading videos that don't actually show any wrongdoing when this sort of stuff is out there? They just throw hush-money at the highly principled pro-life women and it gets covered up!
  3. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 08:23 PM) Personally, no, but I have two female friends who have, got told they were pregnant (when they weren't) and told they needed to have an abortion ASAP before anybody found out they were pregnant because that would ruin their lives. This sounds like some serious fraud/malpractice. I hope authorities were contacted.
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 11:48 PM) So, my professor asks the class yesterday anyone know who the most famous person from Davenport, Iowa is? I didn't say it out loud, but definitely thought to myself, Seth Rollins lol. What was the "right" answer?
  5. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) Then I'm making arts and literature classes electives. Learning a foreign language is an investment in a sense. English might be accepted but that doesn't mean we should be complacent. The world is too big for the egocentric attitudes most Americans exhibit. I doubt there's a great ROI on 4-6 years of Latin or French or German.
  6. QUOTE (shysocks @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) People's premiums were going up anyway. They weren't doubling or tripling. Prior to the ACA, I (healthy young person) was paying $130/month for health and dental through Blue Cross Blue Shield, with a plan roughly equivalent to a "silver". When the ACA went into effect, that plan became $390. So I went to the health market, where the cheapest option was $200/month for a "bronze" plan far worse than what I had before. Luckily, I got a job status change around this time and picked up coverage through my employer, so I didn't have to take any of those options. One of my in-laws (a fairly healthy young person with low-moderate income) has been on an ACA plan, but this year her rate doubled. She makes slightly too much (by working 3 low-wage jobs) to get enough subsidies to make the plans affordable, so she's going without coverage and paying the $695 penalty. Awesome. Her boyfriend is in the same boat. I'm glad the ACA has been good for people with really low incomes and the sick, but as far as I can tell, it's been complete ass for everyone else.
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 11:41 PM) Doesn't matter. They outright came out and said 'you don't get any more appointments'. Pure politics. They said "no more recess appointments", not "no more appointments". That's not even close to being the same thing.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 11:34 PM) K we aren't talking about Recess appointments. I would not recommend Obama put a recess appointment on Supreme Court. Obama already said he wasn't going to make a recess appointment.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 11:31 PM) Let's see how long this lasts. It's not as if nominees for the SC have never been rejected before, even over a decent length of time (months and months). IIRC Reagan had one rejected after a bunch of hearings and several months. Right, because they're actually checking over the qualifications of the candidate and how he/she might perform as a Justice. That's not what's going on here. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 11:31 PM) I said in my first post on this it was dumb of McConnell to come out and say he wouldn't confirm anyone. McConnell said it and the Presidential Candidates are supporting it. That's what the complaint is. If Obama nominates some far-left crackpot and they want to reject him or her, fine. That is their job. Checks and balances are to prevent people from f***ing up their job, not to prevent them from doing their job at all until you can get your buddy into office.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 11:15 PM) No, they can't offer up names to be confirmed. They can't choose anyone unilaterally. Of course they can offer up names. "Scalia Jr is the only person we'll approve. Nominate him or we vote no." They've hijacked how the process is supposed to work, out of pure partisanship. Granted, the Senate being hard-asses about nominees of a President of the opposite party isn't new to Obama's tenure, but this flat out refusal to confirm ANYONE he nominates is ridiculous.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) So when a President refuses to enforce laws passed by Congress, that's....good governance? Unfair/unethical? Setting a precedent that our democracy cannot function under ideological parties? If Obama said he would veto every single bill passed by Congress regardless of content, and there was nothing they could do about it, that would be bad governance. And unfair. And unethical. The GOP Senate is basically saying that the ability to appoint Justices is theirs, not the President's.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) Yes, they can. That's their power under the Appointment Clause. What's the point of having that power if they're supposed to just rubber stamp whoever the President picks? Of course they CAN. That doesn't make it fair or ethical. No one is asking them to be rubber stampers, but they've made it clear they don't even CARE who the nominee is. It's cowardly bulls***.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 07:18 PM) Yeah, anyone upset at Repubs over this are just fooling themselves. Flip the switch and they'd be doing the same thing. That's their right. They get to confirm an appointment. That's how the rules were set up. There's nothing unfair or unethical about it. Democrats hypothetically being hypocritical over the matter doesn't mean it isn't unfair or unethical. The Senate's job is to filter out bad candidates, not completely block the President's responsibility to nominate people. Can an opposition party categorically refuse to confirm anyone over a 4, or 8, year term?
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 04:24 PM) let it be known that the Great Chipotle-Qdoba food war started here. Qdoba (and Moe's) are nasty. You get free queso and guac because everything is lower quality.
  15. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 07:46 PM) Finished it in one sitting? Damn, must not be that long. I only put in about 30 minutes last night. Still on day 1. It's ~4 hours.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 10:19 PM) Why is everyone assuming that Rubio won't tack back to the middle on other equally important social issues like immigration were he to be the nominee? He can't tack back to the middle on immigration. That would be hailed as the biggest flip-flop in history and no one would believe it.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 11:17 PM) I don't get what is so great about Chipotle. It isn't that good. There are so many dive type places I would rather go to that just blow it away. Give me a Taco Burrito King for starters. 1. The steak isn't low-quality Steak Ems like most burrito places. 2. Consistency. 3. Many areas don't have a great authentic Mexican dive.
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) Monogamy is a part of every "major" religion unless it's a polygamist deal. Not really any gray area there. I am not a cheater but I think it's disengenuous to immediately write off every one who "cheats" as a selfish person. Plenty of people don't practice monogamy and aren't cheaters. Cheating involves giving your partner the impression that you're being monogamous, and then not doing it. It's a lie, and a betrayal. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) If I was married for 10 years and my wife just stopped wanting to have sex with me am I just supposed to never have sex again? That, or attempt to make it an open marriage, or get a divorce.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 12:52 AM) I get you, I just think the conceptions of relationships, even if so far removed from the inception of religion, are all based on religious stuff that is engrained in humans by now. If it was socially acceptable and it wouldn't hurt her I would be cheating on my girlfriend all time. I don't for her sake and the reflection it would have on me as a person. Religion makes that reflection negative. People favoring trustworthy individuals is not based on religion.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) lolololol I've been arrested for an armed takeover of a federal facility. I will send a certified letter indicating that the facility is in fact mine and you bad cops should get out of my way. This is REALLY going to help his defense at trial, haha. Or maybe he's going for an insanity defense? The letter is from Cliven Bundy, the father. I wonder how awkward that meeting with the notary was. You want me to notorize WHAT?
  21. I bet Mike O'Malley 3 fans are excited for the caucus. COURT US, HILLARY AND BERNIE FANS
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 06:08 PM) Not sure if anyone here is a board gamer, but I found a copy of Robinson Crusoe this weekend and played a few games. Really, really fun co-op/survival game. Highly recommended. I've got a wall full of about 70. I have Robinson Crusoe but it hasn't made it to the table yet. Currently playing Pandemic Legacy with the family.
  23. By election day, Greg will be Soxtalk's strongest Hillary proponent.
  24. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) So Trump did it. I didn't see the debate other than a few clips sprawled around the internet. Did anyone without Trump take charge? Not really. Secondary frontrunners Cruz and Rubio both got beat up by the other candidates and the Fox mediators. Paul and Bush were solid. Christie, Kasich, and Carson were the same they've been in every debate ("fk terrorists 9/11 dems suck", "pleeeeeeeeeease look at my resume I have experience", "zzzzzzz").
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 06:23 PM) Is anyone surprised a network hasn't made a back to the future TV show? With Lloyd and MJF? Or do you just mean with the basic "people time-traveling in a Delorean" concept?
