Trade everybody for somebody.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 12:43 AM) John Danks was as high as 11 (as ranked by MiLB.com) :masturbatingsmilie :masturbatingsmilie lol, wut?

The guy has the career of a less experienced jon garland. If all it took was joe, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) Fukodome LF Cabrera SS Thome DH PK 1B Dye RF AJ C Fields 3rd Richar 2nd Owens CF Oops - this is a prediction not want list... I like this but with Brian Anderson splitting time with owens. Edit: I like the other ones more but they aren't realistic.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) If you want a Thome or Konerko jersey you should DEFINITELY go, those are 50% off. So they both get traded next week?

Williams: "Linebrink + Cabrera = 1 Jon Garland."
max power replied to TheBigHurt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I bet the amount garland signs for next year shocks you. I read he'll be looking for close to 20 a year. And if he has an 18 win season again this year, which he might in that stadium on that team, he'll probably get 17-18+ a year. -
I still don't really care if they get him. If they do, they "bet the farm" so to speak on this year. If they don't rebuilding will be quite a bit easier.

QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 01:10 AM) Jose Contreras 6'4''-245 (He's big, but really not much of an option here, he's too old and more fatty looking than muscle) I read somewhere on this board that the guy is like ridiculously rock solid and if anything he over trains. Not sure if "fatty" is accurate at all.

I just assumed it was a royal rumble type brawl.

I actually welcome this thread. I say brian anderson. Seems like his has a chip on shoulder, we've seen his aggressive fight behavior. Perfect fighting height and shape.

Why not do something like spread buehrle and vaquez out to 1 and 3 so you have a greater possibility of having your relievers ready to go on those days where your crappier pitchers are more likely to pitch. Why put your pitchers in order? Will they really get more starts by the year end? Maybe one.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) Following his return from the DL near the end of May 2006 he put up a 5.11 ERA to finish the season. So yeah, the back has bothered him. I wouldn't say that for sure unless his back stopped hurting him late in 07. You are insinuating that his back is why he sucked.

Clement is going to be better than jose this year?

I'd rather base my decision on what helps us win more games than who is complaining. Besides, just as many people will complain about rowand if he has a down year. Anyone have win shares stats or something relevant comparing the two?

OFFICIAL: Sox Sign Linebrink - 4 yrs, 19 mil

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) A reliable setup man was one of the Sox needs this offseason, and by all accounts Linebrink filled that need. The Sox may have overpaid if you just look at Linebrink's deal in a vacuum, but based on the other contracts being handed out, it seems like it is the market rate. One of the biggest stats to note about Linebrink is with his amount of pitches. For his career: 1-15 pitches - 1.78 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, .248 BAA in 273 IP 16 or more - 5.52 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, .289 BAA in 169 IP He is a very solid reliever when he keeps his pitch count low, however, once he gets up there his stats balloon. So it is entirely possible that Milwaukee did not use him correctly (in the setup role) which lead to undesirable results. You seem to be suggesting that if his pitch count is low, he will pitch better. I think its more that if he pitches better, his pitch count will be lower. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) If we go with a 12 man pitching staff, which I think is likely at this point, here's how the bench seems to shape up. We basically have 4 bench slots to give out with a 12 man staff. Things I wouldn't mind seeing: Pablo, who can back up a couple of positions (None terribly well defensively) who's main job will probably be a platoon in LF with Owens. Bourgeois - right hand hitting, IF utility guy Backup Catcher - Hall Those are the 3 guys we currently have. That leaves me seeing 2 potential needs; a guy who can play CF, and/or a lefty. Can Bourgeois play CF? Anyone know? We already know Mack can't. He's not a terrible option, but even if we sign him, it still leaves a bench that doesn't look complete to my eyes. We can just move owens to CF, assuming we sign another one, and one of the other bench players can take a corner spot. No dilemma there. Owens was competent in center.

QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) He's had sciatia since 2006. So technically that's not a back problem. It's a nerve problem. I knew there was something. Link to a site from 2006 So he has had it at least since may of 2006. He wasn't exactly terrible in 06, so I am not sure what to think about it affecting his pitching. Then again he was s***ty the second half of 06 right?
-
For that price you get more than the angels got, imo.

QUOTE(Lemon_44 @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 01:28 AM) no basis at all for that statement. 3 years ago,Lowell was as unmovable a player as Contreras is now. He was a throw in to rid the Marlins of his contract in the Beckett trade. Fenway park has greatly benefitted him. Crede hit what, .290 with 30 hr's in 2006? To say Lowell would be better is pure speculation. Lowell's career avg is better than crede's best year. Its not speculation. Furthermore, lowell's best year is way better than crede's best year. So either way you look at it. . .

I don't understand why everyone sees this as a trend. He, by my interpretation of his OPS, had: A solid year in 2004 An outstanding year in 2005 A solid year in 2006 A relatively bad year in 2007 So that's a trend? Every reliever has up and down years. I think people are making too much of it. Its not as if he is 37 years old and losing his stuff. -
QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 12:11 PM) Contreras is like 48 years old. He is having tons of physical problems. He is 37 by his own accidental admission. I don't remember his "back problems" but you(G&T) may be right. I trust that if there are real back problems, the sox would be looking to dump him. Otherwise, I don't think we have a chance at winning with 3 young guys in our starting rotation, and we have already committed to trying to win this year, so I see dumping him as a bad move.

QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) This is the same logic that said we should have kept Freddy. He looked good the last month of '06, then couldn't pitch in '07. If KW can clear some of the salary and get some value he has to do it. The money saved can go to Colon or someone else who can be an injury risk for less money. Freddy had diminishing talent/stuff due to physical issues. With contreras most people agree with cooper in that his problems are mental in the form of low confidence. It seems he has regained that confidence.
-
I think jose is vastly undervalued on the trade market(not the cash market) right now. I think he might return to form in '08. He had a solid last month and looks to have his confidence back.
-
I dunno, hernias come back quite easily. I don't even have to mention an example of that.

sox looking at Crawford, Cabrera or Crisp?
max power replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
It seems pretty stupid to trade away the whole farm(or at least all the worthwhile talent in it) for cabrera when we could get some pretty damn good production from andruw jones in CF without losing anything. I know miggy is on another level but this team already lacks high upside youth. I will be disappointed if we get cabrera unless we win the world series. Anything less would be awful and set us back another 3 years.
