QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 12:37 AM) Also, although this comment is random and out of place, I shall make it now since I just saw some of the comments earlier in the thread (I was traveling the last few days and haven't been online). Illinois would beat Illinois State by 15 points, not sure how somebody would conclude Illinois State wins that game. The Redbirds currently have a slightly better record because they haven't played anybody, whereas Illinois has a few decent wins, a really good one tonight, and a tough home loss to an undefeated and ranked Clemson game in a ballgame where Illinois played horrific defense and still had a chance to tie/win the game. Davis and Tisdale would both have double doubles in such a theoretical matchup (Davis only shows up for "important" games, and playing an undefeated team would be good enough for him), and do as they wished. this is an ignorant comment...yes illinois state has a weak sched...but they have absolutely pummeled most teams, including an 80-50 drubbing of evansville today (rpi 20). 13-0 and no signs of stopping. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) Ehh media attention only matters if you are going for an at large. Although ISU did go undefeated in OOC, they played a very weak schedule, and combine that with a down Valley, and an at large would be difficult even if the Redbirds were getting a lot of attention. Although obviously if ISU goes 27-3 this season or something, they have to get a strong look in March even if they don't win Arch Madness. certainly an at-large will be tougher to come by this year, but the media attention is still important for years ahead. more hype this year will lead to more hype the next. as long as the team continues its success next year (which it should--osiris is back and a great recruiting class) then the attention will continue to snowball which will continue to add to ISU's reputation -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 06:42 PM) You guys are a good team, but you still probably won't get a lot of notice. The Valley is down this year, and combine that with your weak OOC schedule, and attention isn't coming your way all that much unless you stay undefeated for a while. You shouldn't care about that though, you have a good team and media attention isn't what matters, winning games is and you guys are doing that at a great clip right now. I was surprised and impressed you beat UIC, it appears whoever guarded Mayo did a great job based on his numbers. Unfortunately media attention is what matters...thats why mid-majors like southern illinois and bradley can get decent matchups with BCS teams. The BCS teams arent overly worried about losing because of the overall view of that team (as reinforced by the media) isn't a bad one--even if the that particular mid-major is having an off year (SIU...). Even though ISU has a strong team this year, a loss by a BCS team to ISU would be seen as a bad loss to most people--regardless of how good ISU actually is . Once this team can get a little coverage, the tide will start to turn. ISU has had a cupcake OOC schedule, there is no denying it...but to get through the entirety of the non-con without a loss is still a great accomplishment. They didn't just simply win those games though...some were absoulte demolishings, and the ones that werent still showcased what is possibly the most athletic/exciting offense in the MVC--featuring 2 POY candidates. One thing I would like too see is some sort of in-state matchup rotation, similar to what is done in iowa. Drake (MVC), Iowa, Iowa State, and Northern Iowa (MVC) all play each other each year. It gives the MVC teams some BCS matchups and its great local matchups for the fans (FWIW Drake beat both Iowa State and Iowa this year). Imagine an early season "Land of Lincoln" showdown--SIU, NIU, ISU, UofI, Depaul, Northwestern, EIU, WIU. Could be hosted at Redbird Arena and Assembly Hall (keeping things central) or do the whole thing in chicago. just a thought... -

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 20, 2008 -> 11:02 PM) No one else cares. they will care soon enough...this team is too good not to get noticed a little more. UIC went to play a solid Vanderbilt team and beat them. UIC went to georgia tech and beat them. UIC went to Redbird Arena to play the Illinois State Redbirds...and lost--even when the Redbirds couldn't shoot. 11-0 and no signs of stopping. -
QUOTE (chisoxt @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) I like this too. Let's face it...I would rather have a known, albeit somewhat dry, but professional commodity than an ex jock announcer-in-training ala Chris Singleton. yuck.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) He has 8 saves that took less than 3 outs to get and 0 multi-inning saves, 6 blown saves, has allowed a good amount of runs and more baserunners than any of the other elite closers this season. He just hasn't been all that dominant, he's just had an incredible amount of save opportunities which has more to do with luck than anything he's done on the mound. When Smoltz saved 55 in '02 he had 8 multi-inning saves and only 1 save that required less than 3 outs to record, he also had over 80 IP that year compared to K-Rod's poultry 67. chicken saves? -

Chicagosports.com taken over?

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 11:52 PM) I read they were switching back over to the main site for sports earlier this week, but I'm not sure when it was supposed to happen. could have something to do with it...but as of right now i know the site is supposed to still be active. the tribune's main site still links to chicagosports.com -
As I do every day/night, i tried logging on to chicagosports.com (tribune sports). Firefox told me the site could not be trusted and a quick google search told me that google's security team found security issues involving the site installing malicious software according to Mozilla Security Team: This really sucks...I was on there at least 2 or 3 times earlier today. I hope the Tribune Company knows whats up and that this can be resolved soon.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 11:02 PM) An "epidural" describes the location of the injection. The dural layers are the covering of the spinal cord. There can be many medications injected there. As Steff said one is for numbing and pain. The one Crede probably received is for anti-inflammatory purposes. The big worry here is that the epidural means they suspect the problem is nerve related not superficial muscle or movement problems. Since the back surgery is fairly recent it could be scar tissue. Hopefully, it is not a disc problem again. Even though they did a partial discectomy problems can arise from the other discs taking the load or the same discs can have problems again. The torsion the back endures during a baseball swing is violent and could cause these repeated problems. I think we've all noticed his defense has been where it should be. let me clear this all up for everyone...i have literally the same problem as joe and have had a couple epidurals myself. Like this previous poster said, the term "epidural" simply refers to the region of the injection. I have a terribly herniated disc that is putting pressure on my sciatic nerve. without treatment it causes severe pain that is absolutely unbearable. I have had 2 epidurals in the last year for pretty much the exact same problem as joe, except i never had surgery. the surgery is only done as measure that could possibly end the problem for good. I never had it, and apparently in joe's case it didnt work very well. an epidural is a direct shot of cortisone that bathes the spinal canal between the vertebrae. think of it as a super potentially long lasting anti-inflammatory/pain killer. my last one was in may and it absolutely melted the pain completely away. the only problem with epidurals is that they are not completely reliable for long periods of time. the pain may go away for a week, it may go away for a year, it may go away forever....but you can only have around 3 in a year. joe had this done as a measure of pain relief, and if it works as well for him as it did for me, he'll be fine. as far as how the sox are saying they are waiting for the epidural injection to kick in, it takes about 3-4 days to take full effect.
