  1. So if the Tigers only have one good pitcher that means the White Sox have 0, right? The Tigers rotation certainly isn't spectacular, but with a healthy Bonderman it should certainly be at least league average, which with the offense will be plenty to make the playoffs (barring injury which admittedly is a weakness of the team) Once you get into the playoffs the idea that you have to have great pitching is just laughable, it's all a crap shoot relying on luck, Johan Santana could get shelled and Jeff Weaver and Jose Contreras could turn into aces.
  2. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) If I had any respect for Tiger fans I would agree. *plays Journey and participates in TNA Wrestling events*
  3. The Tigers continue to back into the playoffs with another narrow victory over Kansas City, we now merely have the best record in MLB and have won 7 of our last 10 while scoring 33 runs in the last three games.
  4. Bunting is almost always a bad move, your offense this year was great...it's the fact your pitching has been a disaster that is Chicago's problem.
  5. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) I suspect that the Tigers will only be playing about 3 more games than the White Sox. 1.5 games up, won the season series with Oakland, Magglio and Granderson are both crushing the ball again...I like our chances to at least get out of the first round, although the Yankees all star lineup...ugh
  6. Michigan v Ohio State is a bigger rivalry because both sides equally hate each other and have been relatively equally sucessful and competetive, unlike the Yankees v Red Sox. Not necessarily the biggest rivalry (although I personally think so) but I would definitely take it over Yankees/Red Sox. (Personally I would take dozens of College rivalries over a 'rivalry' in MLB)
  7. Well, the offense finally woke up, then the Orioles did us a huge favor by bringing in Russ Ortiz (how is this guy still int he majors?!?) turning it into a 9-0 game.
  8. To be fair, that's only because Minnesota and Chicago already got those easy games Brandon Inge made a ridiculously awesome play early, but as usual are bats have blown a couple chances to turn it into a rout already...
  9. I'd like to see Liriano do something more than throw 50 pitches in AAA before I concede anything to the Twins. Outside of Santana they have no starter who can shut down anyone (well except the Tigers recent pathetic hitting) The Post season is all about pitching, and Detroit's is far superior without a 100% Liriano. I would take Chicago's starters over Boof and the Gang easily as well.
  10. Carlos Guillen is awesome, unfortunately the rest of our offense still stinks. (Well Marcus Thames is good for a moonshot every 10 at bats or so..) How about Craig Monroe with 3 outfield assists in the game?
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) We only have one reliable pitcher, and our offense isn't that good, and maybe even worse then the twins. I don't know, coming as someone who watches your games from the 'outside' so to speak, I would say your offense is still much better even with some recent struggles, and your 2-5 pitchers are much better than Minnesota's right now, although if Liriano can come back...
  12. I would choose the Twins, they only have one reliable pitcher right now and their offense is still not very good.
  13. We're talking about the official tigers site here, those are crapholes for any team. I've still been posting semi-regularly during our slump, I'll admit it's not as much, but that's simply because I don't have anything to comment on when our games are boring 2-1 suckfests
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) Mark Teahen will miss the rest of the season after having shoulder surgery. Ouch, too bad one of the Royals few great young players has went down, he was really quite exciting to watch.
  15. We have better pitching than Minnesota really, even if Liriano is healthy (big if) they need a 3rd starter. Obviously noone wants to face Santana in the playoffs though
  16. As much as I hate Bonds, I can't help but think that the top two possibilities are probably Oakland and Detroit. (Oakland obviously due to location, Detroit because for some reason Leyland is apparently a good friend of his)
  17. Dye should be the MVP, but Jeter probably has a good shot, being that he's Jeter. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Dye should be the MVP, but with Jeter against him I doubt it. Since were talking about individual awards I want to mention how stupid the ESPN guy sounded after Lowell made the great diving grab to say that it was either Lowell or Chavez for the GG. Once again he won't win it because of Lowell being in Boston, but to not even mention Crede makes him sound like a complete moron. Chavez has had a trainwreck of a year due to injuries and Lowell's range isn't that great. It should be between Crede and Inge, too bad they're in the Al Central....
  18. Well, apparently playing in the Garbage Bag Dome (AFAIK all Twins fans hate the place just as much as I do so I doubt I'm offending anyone) was just what we needed to actually 'score some runs.' This is nice since I thought we'd forgotten what that meant for awhile. 4 homers tonight (Granderson, Thames, Rodriguez, Infante) for the 7-2 win.
  19. Two things about Dmitri 1. Don't feel bad for the guy, last year immediately after he reached 500 plate apperances triggingering an option year in his contract he refused to come into a game to pinch hit because he was 'injured' he then didn't play the rest of the year, in some ways this is sweet karma. (Well, besides the fact the guy choked out his girlfriend and is apparently a drunken drug abuser... :/) 2. The Tigers have been in an awful 9-19 stretch where we have been unable to hit, during that time Dmitri has sucked. (Something like a .650 OPS from your DH...) It's not a suprise he was released, and I really doubt it's going to effect 'team chemistry' we played great when he was off in rehab or jail or whatever earlier in the year.
  20. Noone has been reporting Polanco is done for the season since the night of his injury...no clue what Yahoo is saying. He has been doing fielding practice for several days now, and has now moved on to everyone's favorite rehab excercise "swinging underwater"
