  1. According to reports today he is back in Cuba nad never defected...
  2. Carlos Guillen has hit for the cycle. Edit: Clevlen has went yard again, now 5-8 with 2 homers 5 runs scored a walk and 2 outfield assists in two starts and 2 innings as a defensive replacement.
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) Uh oh. Verlander with a shaky first inning. Are the innings catching up to him? Actually, he's had several starts like this. (Poor control) He even had a game against (gulp...) the Cubs where he only went 5 innings and gave up like 9 hits. I don't think it was fatigue so much as that about one start in five or so he just doesn't have his control/command and struggles, some example being the cubs game, the game where you guys bombed him early in the year, and a game against the Yankees where he gave up 6 runs. He was just fortunate to be playing the Devil Rays tonight so it was only 3 runs... Sean Casey has went 2-4 so far with a homer in his Tigers debut, Brent Clevlen hit his first career homer, Clevlen went from hitting .224 in double A to hitting .571 with a homer and two outfield assists in 2 and a half big league games.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 07:21 AM) Big shout out to Deleware. Thanks for supporting the good guys! I thought it was pretty funny how most states were around 60 no/40 yes...and Minnesota was 91 no/9 yes. I guess Twins fans are a bit overconfident.
  5. The Dodgers have one of the deepest farm systems in the majors...and the Cubs got Cesar Izturis. Terrible trade. Is anyone going to be intimidated by a mighty slugging infield of Ronny Cedeno/Neifi Perez (one of the worst hitters to get regular playing time ever) and Izturis? No, it just means they'll have three or four nearly automatic outs instead of the one that most NL teams have.
  6. Most of the team had a poor July, and yet we came out of it farther ahead than we entered. I've said many times that I expect the division to be close and go down to the wire, but I think this is a traditional case of: "I'll post everything possibly bad, so that either I can say I told you so, or I can say that I'm glad I was wrong because it means the team did well...either way I win!!!" A very popular style on any sports message board
  7. Our offense is fine, it's going to have it's bad games (tonight) and it's great ones, as has been said the key is our pitching, but I think that's true of every team in the majors...
  8. Varitek has been pretty horrible this year anyways, despite all the bad talk about him Nixon is a big loss...he's basically been Bobby Abreu without the steals this year.
  9. Bondermans post second half numbers are bad because he stupidly made a ton of starts last year despite having elbow tendonitis, he was great in the second half in 2004. I am concerned about Robertson (somewhat) and Rogers (alot) though, I think this one will definitely come down to the wire, with the head to head series (Detroit - Chicago, Detroit - Minnesota, Minnesota - Chicago) being great games with a playoff atmosphere. It's definitely cool to finally have some excitement in the AL Central, and I honestly think the three teams will all finish within 5 games of each other.
  10. The division definitely isn't over, and despite the Yankees buying fest I think the wild card *will* still come from the Central. So that leaves three great teams fighting for two playoff spots, it should be fun.
  11. I'm glad that offense waited until they were playing Texas to show up =) It looks like we are going to have a fun three way race for the division this year.
  12. I find it hilarious that Motownsports is considered to be full of Kool-Aid drinking people mapping out a parade route...when nearly half the board goes insane and talks about how the team is collapsing after EVERY LOSS. That description couldn't be any more inaccurate, if anything it is full of fans who are used to failure and still half expect it. Anyways, tonights loss was not too suprising, the Tigers main weakness all year is a great tendency to flail at breaking pitches out of the strike zone, so Casey Fossum looked like Cy Young. Edit: Honestly, I would consider Motownsports at this moment just as pessimistic as this board, and we're 7.5 games up in the division, I only post here because...well shockingly enough I like talking about baseball, and I find this forum to be mostly smart fans who know what they're talking about, Motownsports is quite similar in my opinion.
  13. I think Sean Casey's .995 Career Fielding Percentage will look good after seeing Dmitri Young commit 4 errors tonight (boxscore will only show 3, but the "Guillen" error was his fault as well)
  14. Pretty much a 'meh' kind of move, Casey is left handed and gets on base at a good clip which are two things our lineup is lacking. Of course, he also has little power and is injury prone, still a slight upgrade over Shelton and it only took a minor league reliever to get him so not bad.
  15. Hernandez is pretty much a homeless man's CC Sabathia in both appearance and skill, I would expect you guys to pound him. (Mostly I hate the idiot for drilling Carlos Guillen in the skull last year instigating the brawl.) This will be a rare time when I'm cheering for you guys to pummel the opposing pitcher.
  16. Well, a combination of some crappy defense, bad luck, and the metrodome did in the Tigers today. It's pretty annoying since our defense/bullpen/offense always seems to blow the games Bonderman is pitching in...
  17. With Sheffield and Matsui back, noone in the majors, Detroit or Chicago included is better than New York. The key thing is that this is *on paper*, they were better than Chicago on paper last year, and look how that went. But saying it doesn't worry you is silly, it worries me, and we're alot farther ahead of them than you are.
  18. Magglio doubles in two in the first against Liriano. Edit: Home plate umpire is incredibly bad, giving Liriano some very strange strike calls...
  19. Edit: Bah, the site doesn't show minor league innings.
  20. Perhaps Young, Dukes, and Upton should stop throwing bats at umpires, beating up teammates, and getting arrested for drunk driving? Just a thought.
  21. Kevin Mench has been below average in a great hitters park, Cordero has sucked this year, Nix has always sucked. Good deal for the Rangers, and it probably lowers the value of the other big names in the trade market.
  22. I don't remember Dombrowski ever saying Sanchez wouldn't be traded, he's always been the big name brought up in all of our trade rumors. Seriously, how would we possibly aquire Soriano, Abreu, or Lee without giving him up, regardless of whether Chicago is involved? Obviously we aren't trading anyone important on the major league team or Maybin, so that leaves Sanchez as our only real big time prospect.
  23. Yep, we're only 2 games over .500 against the good teams.... Wait isn't the old saying that you beat up the on the bad teams and split with the good ones? QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) Um, so when is Verlander supposed to fade again? The same time Liriano does.
  24. Too bad about all the injuries, he certainly has an awesome name.
