QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 11:24 AM) http://deadspin.com/chicago-sports-radio-g...s-re-1693807995 Deadspin in on it now. In the past I definitely think there's been reaches to make stories out of something, I don't think that's the case with Bernstein's comments. Spiegel's I have zero issue with, if he thinks she's not good at her job, he's in the right to say it. Really though, Spiegel is in the same business, and appears on Kaplan's show on CSN. As a professional, he really shouldn't be sharing his thought on a peer on social media especially since it isn't some controversy that occured. What he thinks is poor job performance shouldn't be shared with the world. That can only get you in trouble. Besides, his apology was weak. He is sorry he offended her but started the whole thing off talking about how bad she is. If you weren't intending to offend someone, why would you go out to twitter and mention how bad someone is at their job?

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 04:52 AM) You suck at football though... Yes, but that is because I haven't been properly coached.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) Bernstein has gone down this road with sideline reporters many times--namely Erin Andrews. My feeling is he'll do a twitter apology, make quick mention of it on air, and not go down this road again. No suspension or firing. At least it wasn't Boers.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 09:40 AM) Maybe in the second half when he's been to the All Star Game and the Sox are in first, you bust it out. It's premature to me. He's not a perennial Top 5 Cy guy, and hasn't thrown a pitch for the Sox...and he's probably only going to be here for a season. Don't get me wrong, this doesn't make me mad, or make me a "hater". I'm just calling something stupid, stupid. He's on the team and a marketable player. There is no reason to wait and see if he makes the All Star game or the team is in first place. The White Sox will sell more tickets doing it their way vs. your way. That is just a fact. If that is stupid, then being stupid makes a lot of sense.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) It's just not the time to do this yet. Do something else. Why not market him right away? People were excited he was acquired. Play to the golden domers and anyone else who is a huge fan. His being a local guy plays in as well. Were the Heat not supposed to market Lebron and Bosh until they were on the team for a while? Hyping your product is a good thing. The White Sox sold a bunch of tickets when they signed the new guys. Marketing them doesn't hurt a thing.

How many teams have better OF depth than Bonifacio and Shuck?

QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 08:46 AM) I feel like the expressions of "yeesh, calm down guys" in this thread now far outweigh any original anger there may have been. You'd have thought there was a riot. It's sort of a dumb idea to give a guy his own cheering section when he's never thrown a pitch for the team, especially when you ripped the idea off in the first place, and especially when you already have an underappreciated guy on the team who has been objectively better. Also that hat is frigging ugly. Also the Shark Cage will not persuade Samardzija to sign here in any capacity. Those are my thoughts. No outrage, just puzzlement and moving on with my life. No it's not a dumb idea. I agree that Q is the better pitcher, but for some reason the public will never buy it, plus Q doesn't fan enough guys to get a section like that. The hat sucks, but so does just about every giveaway that is handed out at venues around the country. People knock over women and children at USCF to get a Chevy t-shirt with a Sox emblem from the Chevy Pride Crew. If the $15 or $20 price for the lower deck seat for a Jeff S. start isn't enough, maybe the $2 hat will entice. Whatever it does, it isn't going to decrease attendance. I don't understand why someone has to have been on the team x amount of games before a team uses them to sell tickets. Not marketing these players is a dumb idea. It has nothing to do with re-signing him.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) Are you guys talking about service time so they can have more control of him? He's in the same boat Rodon is in. Send him down for 2 weeks, you get him for 7 seasons. I will agree with Boras that if the Cubs are trying to win, baseball will be broken if they keep him in Des Moines until he won't be a Super 2. Boras exploits every loophole he can. He should be very understanding the other side does as well. If he ran a team, he would do the same thing.

Conference Call with Rick Hahn, Buddy Bell
Dick Allen replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) I honestly think you're right. He threw a 75 pitch bullpen session the other day and I'm not sure how much more arm strength he needs to build. Sure you'd like to see him go 5-6 innings in a Cactus league game before the season but IMO that's all he needs. He could do that next week and come north with the club and be ready to pitch by the 10th. The reports I read and supposedly Cooper verified was they targeted April 12th, but Coop said they could hold off until late April. -
I don't see how anyone could be upset with this. It's a $20 lower deck seat, you get a crappy hat, I see people still wearing crappy hats from giveaways 10 years ago. It should draw some more people to the park.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) Unless he's really good at saving people money. If any of the women involved were friends or relatives of yours, chances are you wouldn't think the Bears should pay him what they will be paying him to play football. One of the problems with this sort of crime is they turn the tables and make the victim the problem. It is pretty text book. They don't want to testify, or they will take a little cash to make it all go away. Maybe he is innocent, but the 49ers should have a lot of information and they just cut him during the season. The bruises on the neck I have a big problem with.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) Well because he's a football player? That's his job. When accountants get a domestic assault charge and get fired they most likely go to another accounting firm and get a job. If you want to play professional football in the United States, well the NFL is where you go. You have convictions on your record when you apply for a job and they do a background check, most of the time you don't get the job. Of course he has no convictions, but if he was an accountant and he was fired, and it was out in public as this is, chances are he would have a hard time finding employment.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) I think he should be able to work, just why should he be able to work in the NFL? And if he is able to work in the NFL, I would hope the Bears would be above hiring him.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Did you read the affidavit's on the case? They are public. He may have. He may not have either though. Evidence suggests otherwise. They were drinking and having a good time at McDonald's home. Were both drunk. McDonald's story is that they had sex consensually and then they spent the entire day together the following day. He claims to have thought that they hit it off. After she left that night, she said that he took advantage of her while she was drunk. The charge was rape by intoxication. He absolutely could have done that. Maybe he didn't though. I wasn't there. Neither was anyone else. So you don't know, but because the Bears could use a DE, there's a pretty good chance he is innocent. How do you explain the bruises on his fiance's neck?
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) You know, I have a hard time giving benefit of the doubt here, when the person he called was the director of security who called an off-duty cop, who arrived before the police. Maybe that's what happened...but it certainly smells like b.s. to me. He needed Ray Donovan to make it all go away.
-
QUOTE (Boogua @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) I heard that McDonald plans to sue that woman and that they have video evidence that proves the sex was consensual. That was from sports radio yesterday. ARod was going to sue regarding Biogenesis. The authorities alledgedly have the tape and have yet to clear him of any wrong doing. I just wonder if this guy is always so innocent , and really just a victim of women, why the 49ers released him. I'm sure there are some bad guys on the Bears, but they knowingly just signed another.

Conference Call with Rick Hahn, Buddy Bell
Dick Allen replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) Another thing I found interesting that I did not include in my article due to relevance to the site content, is Hahn wasn't ready to commit to needing someone to start for Chris Sale. He said that Sale has hit every goal put out for him in his rehab and there is a growing optimism he wouldn't have to miss any starts. Perhaps that is why we haven't heard Shark being named the Opening Day Starter quite yet? The White Sox have already said Sale will not pitch Opening Day. Maybe 6 days later. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 12:45 PM) There's a pretty good chance that Ray McDonald didn't sexually assault that woman. Doesn't seem like that changes anything though. People's torches are out. Based on what?
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) Yeah, luckily he's just a guy that left visible bruises on his pregnant girlfriend. Yeah but they were only around her neck. He's a great guy. Just ask his mom. That's what George did.

QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) concerning the farm and minor league, excellent work. i love to read up on these area. btw, do you or any know if they will do it again?? it would be a great update / PR move. Season ticketholders are getting a call either today or tomorrow at noon and it is a Hahn/Bell conversation. -
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) K.C. Johnson @KCJHoop · 1h 1 hour ago Rose on whether he's confident he'll play this season: "Oh yeah. I'm not worried about that. I don't have any pain." K.C. Johnson @KCJHoop · 55m 55 minutes ago Rose said he should be cleared for contact sometime this week or next. K.C. Johnson @KCJHoop · 49m 49 minutes ago Rose on Bulls: "We can be really good. It’s just all about everyone being healthy, a little bit of luck and everyone staying together." I wonder why everyone would be healthy and all of a sudden be able to remain healthy once the playoffs start. That is just not realistic.

I think I will have my dad call George McCaskey and tell him what I great guy I am, I haven't ever even been accused of beating or raping a woman. I will work for the minimum. I will even pay for my own gas to meet in Halas Hall.

The cap is going to take a huge leap in a couple of years. How is the timing between Rose's contract expiring , and Anthony Davis being available to the highest bidder? Bring unibrow home.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) Betting money would be on Bryant, but you never know.....they're going to have to pitch to Jose this year, provided LaRoche and Avisail and Alexei/Conor (to a lesser extent) are forcing opposing to teams to pay for pitching around him, or at least trying to limit him to singles and doubles rather than homers. I read something a few years ago which stated the clubhouse leader in spring training home runs wound up hitting very few in the regular season. Unless he gets hurt, it seems Bryant will break that. I think one sprimg Beltin Bill Melton hit 10 spring homers, and i think he wound up with 6 for the regular season.

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 04:53 PM) FWIW Mcaskey talked with McDonald's parents before the signing to get a better feel of the man. Also he apparently bought his own plane ticket to fly out and speak with Pace. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/03/24/bea...ersial-signing/ A millionaire buys a plane ticket to beg for a job that will pay him a lot of money compared to the average Joe. Color me unimpressed. There were 3 incidents with this guy. I know, he is going to sue. Wasn't ARod going to sue? I could see it if it were a piece to get to the Super Bowl, but with where the Bears are at, this move makes no sense to me. Why bring this to the table? Supposedly the Bears comtemplated this for about a week. If you have to think about it for that long, I think the answer should be no.
