  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) Not true. He wants to get to know everyone longer and get a feel for the organization. That doesn't mean he should go sign a lesser deal now. Then answer this. If he plays out the season, really likes playing for the White Sox but they offer him $20 million less than another team he has never played for, so any of this "getting to know each other" would start all over again, do you really think he would sign with the White Sox? The fact is, he says he has to "get to know" the White Sox, but when he is a free agent, unless he signs with a team he has already played with, he already knows more about the White Sox, than he does that team. It is about the money. The White Sox may be able to be short, but only slightly. You don't risk what he is risking carrying this out to free agency if money isn't one of the highest priorities. He can sign right now for more money than he or a couple of generations of his family will ever need. All these "reading between the lines" posts are fantasy. He said he doesn't want to discuss a contract during the season. He wants to be a free agent. That isn't a guy who seems destined to stay.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 12:45 PM) People have said that about Samardjiza. Jeff, however, has NOT said that. The guy has seemed like the type of guy who will tell you what is on his mind, so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt here. Actually, he has said he has a responsibility to the Player's Association.
  3. QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) It's athlete speak. What's he supposed to say to a reporter? "Yeah, I just want the most money." This is completely meaningless. And if he has a good year, he will sign for an outrageous sum, but still come back with a mystery team offered him more. He already is BSing. He said he wants to see how it is on the White Sox before he agrees to a contract. If the Red Sox offer him $120 million next winter, will he balk because he never played for the Red Sox and needs to see how it is first? For his sake, he pretty much is answering the questions how he probably should, but free agency/money questions always have answers that 8 months later don't add up.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) Is anyone else a bit weary of Robertson? Good performances in spring doesn't tell me much, but bad performances along with arm issues are a big red flag in my opinion. I don't think I have to remind you guys of the last time we acquired/signed a big name closer. His name was Billy Koch. That didn't turn out so well. So good performances tell you nothing, but bad are a big red flag? He's a veteran getting ready for the season. Peaking in the middle of March is not a good thing.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 10:16 AM) My point is that mock draft accuracy is dumb and shouldn't be what they are graded on. They mock players to "what they think will happen" and not what "they think should happen". WE should look at their overall big boards and see if the players at the top end up as the best players in the draft. What they did was compare the picks they made for teams vs. what the teams actually selected. It really wasn't a positional thing, but a performance based comparison. They mock by what they think should happen, looking at team needs, etc. At least Kiper and McShay do. They underperformed vs. the real thing which makes sense since if they were better, teams could save a lot of money and fire their scouts .
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) Big boards are usually fairly accurate. It's not about mock draft success. It's which players that he had rated highly on the big board turned into good pros. That's what would need to be checked. They went through his and McShay's picks the last several years a few months ago.. I think they just used their final mock drafts. They did underperform overall, but McShay scored big for JJ Watt to Dallas. Dallas still drafted an All Pro, but it wasn't JJ Watt.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) Kiper thinks a lot of things. Many of them are way off base Except for Gallery, most Iowa offensive lineman do not dissappoint.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) Has anybody ever gone back and checked how his "grades" turn out? They did. Like everyone else, he has been really right, and really wrong.
  9. Since you can retro the DL 10 days in spring training, start the season with Sale on the DL, and have 8 relievers. The typical long man then won't be needed. Just another guy who could give you 2 innings in a pinch. I don't understand people who would give JR and RH a standing ovation if they waived John Danks, yet have no problem with Brad Penny taking the mound for the White Sox. The guy hasn't been good since Alexei Ramirez left Cuba. If he were lights out this spring, I maybe could understand a spot start, but he has a 6.89 ERA and a 1.787 WHIP.
  10. QUOTE (scs787 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) He's interesting, because I hear more talk about him as a RT or a guard than a LT. From the looks of it, I don't see why he can't play LT, but it's just kinda odd seeing these guys projecting him as a RT/G. I really wonder if they might try Long at LT. I don't know what to think about moving a 2x pro bowl guard off the spot he's dominated though. Kiper thinks he can be an All Pro G as a rookie. He's a huge man. He might basically be the next coming of Long, at least as a guard. Not as athletic, but it wouldn't be the worst pick, although I do think they should go after someone who can sack the QB.
  11. The New Era cap the Jacksonville draft picks will wear when they get on stage at the draft features the skyline.................of Miami.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 06:36 AM) I'm not disagreeing with you but if they somehow re-sign Jeff and have their top 4 guys signed for the next 84 years it seems like they'd be in an optimal position to take a guy like Aiken. EDIT: but now that I think about it there's 0 chance Shark is re-signed by June so never mind. Former GM Dan O'Dowd said yesterday there is zero chance he signs an extension during the season. I would guess he wouldn't make this claim on MLB Network without a good source, but you never know.
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) Then Rodon breaks his foot jumping from a hunting post and we're f***ed. My scenerio is he makes the team, makes 2 starts, gets injured and winds up on the DL for the rest of the season. That would basically cost 2 years. I don't understand these writers, it is 2 weeks as a rookie vs. an entire season when you should be at the peak of your career.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) it brings "energy" to the soreness... well cool. That's the type of science you can rely on. I have had electric stimulation on a couple of injuries. It feels pretty cool and does seem to help. I've walked into the office for the treatment with throbbing pain, and walked out with a little soreness.
  15. It wasn't long ago the other Marriotti wannabe, Joe Cowley, got into a lot of trouble with sexist tweets. He almost got fired, and did get demoted from a columnist back to a beat writer. I suppose if women actually listened to their shows, Speigel and Bernstein would probably get into a little more trouble than an apology.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) Keyword post leader: Dick Allen LMAO.
  17. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Gordon Beckham's struggles have destroyed that song for me. Very sad. Beckhamtalk.com
  18. After Stone said Coop "loved" Guerra, to me that is pretty much a lock, and he's thrown well since he said it. I think they will go with Albers. They could use a full-figured guy not named Brad Penny on the staff.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 11:23 AM) At least no Beckham....there's that. You have an infatuation with Gordon Beckham. Get some help. Beckhamtalk.com
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) He's not going to change though. He's just going to watch what he tweets. He has said far worse things on his show than were said last night. Remember all of the stuff about Britney Griner being a man and all sorts of other things? He's mentioned Aiyana Cristal's boobs on the show before. Said that he watched CBS in the morning because he likes Megan Glaros' rack as well. None of those things went viral though. I doubt he says those things again on his show at least for a while.
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) Telander and Haugh are crucified daily by bernstein. Maybe Danny Boy needed something like this to put him back in his place a little bit in his own mind. He used to be really good before he started believing he knew more about everything than anyone else and put the biggest idiot callers on the air to make himself look good. I hope the Score makes him take Sensitivity training or something of the sort.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Guys all the time: David Diehl, Harold Reynolds, Tim McCarver, Erin Andrews (who is also female). To name a few. Wasn't tweeted though. Those were all talked about on the show. The comment about the boobs doesn't happen and there is no apology. Spiegel would not be apologizing for criticizing her work today. That's not what he's sorry about. Maybe not, but he did say he was sorry for offending her and being disrespectful, so if tweeting you suck at your job is offensive or disrespectful, and he didn't take that back, his apology is full of it. He is a sports radio host. Why does he have to tweet about a CSN reporter being bad? What exactly would that accomplish?
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 12:45 PM) He apologized for chiming in and continuing with the conversation about her boobs. He did not apologize for saying she's awful at her job because he shouldn't have to. He criticizes male media members for being bad at their jobs too. There are only 2 things I know about Aiyana Cristal: She's really bad at her job and she has huge boobs. I wouldn't put it on twitter though even if it is true. What male sports media members has he said on Twitter were bad at their jobs? Personally I don't think it's his job to put that out there if he has. He apologized for offending her. If someone told you that you were bad at your job, but I don't want to offend you, I just want it out there for the world to discuss, you would probably be offended. Funny thing about Spiegel, his boobs match up with anybody's.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) I at least have respect for Spiegel and going back to McNeal because they were never too good to admit their were wrong, and they didn't act better than everyone else. But his apology was questionable at best. He apologized not for saying someone sucked at their job, but for not keeping the conversation on track, and then was sad he offended her. The initial tweet not with the sexual stuff was dumb. He didn't want to offend her, he just wanted a Twitter conversation about how bad she is at her job. And the tweet he deleted was probably the most offensive of all. I agree about McNeil. Say what you want about the Barney Rubble lookalike, but he does own up to his screw ups. This was a typical guy conversation many of us have had plenty of, but to be a sports media member and have it on Twitter is mindbogglingly dumb.
