  1. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) I think with the emotions involved with playing at home, plus te fact that he does want to explore free agency, I doubt we see any move until the offseason. And let's be honest. If he leaves, the sox still have a stud waiting in the minors. Plus the compensation pick. Rick made the right move trading for him. This is not a "please stay" move. It's "don't regret leaving" move. Plus the money they were planning to spend on him with a ton of top flight free agent pitchers most likely available. I know wins aren't everything, but for a 30 year old with 36 career wins, and really not a long history of being ace-like, $100 million is really sticking your neck out IMO, and that might not be enough. It is very possible the best solution for the White Sox is one and done. It works for Calipari and Coach K.
  2. It will be interesting because unless a guy is hurt,a better alternative needs to be available. Right now it seems very unlikely, but Rodon might struggle for a while. Erik Johnson might be the 2014 edition. There has to be a viable option. Swapping out Danks or Noesi for Penny isn't going to get you more wins.
  3. I think this team is much better than last year, and if they win the battle of health vs. the rest of their division, it will make sense for season ticketholders to plunk down cash for playoff tickets.
  4. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) But there's a happy ending to the story. A person, who asked to remain anonymous, called the Anti-Cruelty Society on Thursday and offered the $100 starting bid. He planned to pick up the football for his son, a Bears fan, on Friday. I wonder if he picked it up with a bag over his head.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) It was 100 starting bid. Bruce Weber's sold for 120 You could get an official NFL football new for about $80 if you looked hard enough. The problem with this one was a panel was painted white and he signed the panel so if the goal was to use it to throw around and play with your buddies, it probably won't work. OTOH Cutler probably is the greatest Bears QB of all time, so there's that, and you do give money to a good cause. Cutler isn't so great, but he isn't bad enough to have zero bids on an autographed football that starts at $100. That is just sad.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) As per usual DA, you read what you wanted to read and responded to only that part of it. This thread was started not only because of last night but also because of his entire spring training as well as his terrible season last year. He is progressively getting worse and the team has been doing everything to try and get something out of him. My question was how much rope does he get. Try and answer that and try to not get butthurt because I said k thx If he gave up 1 run in 4 innings last night, this thread doesn't exist. He also was really good the start before last before he ran out of gas. He will have awful starts. He had some really awful starts when he was in his peak years. If he can limit them, he is a fine 4 or 5 starter. I think he will be a little better than last year. If he is terrible, he will be replaced.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 09:21 AM) K thx Nice, a 3 year old on the site.
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 07:45 AM) i totally agree with everything you said. i would keep him on a short, tight lease. this yr is not the yr to fvvck around with loyalty, but to put the best up there to make the playoff. this all goes back to my big arse rant of not being prepare, underestimating the team and that is for what ....... well i won't finish my point. lets wait a few games and i can talk when i see results in a game situation. The start before last, Danks was real good until he ran out of gas. Last night was a glorified intrasquad game. Taking anything out of it is crazy. He obviously isn't perfect, but he should be OK at the bottom of the rotation. He gave up 4 runs in 4 innings last night prompting this thread. White Sox pitching gave up 6 runs the other 4 innings. The offense was terrible against AAA foder. The team was not thinking beat Charlotte last night.
  9. QUOTE (RaySox @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) I see no problem with this. Just insurance Yeah, he probably won't help, but most like the Sox signing Crain, and I would assume Lindstrom stands a better chance of actually helping the Sox win. After the fluff pieces of Jesse Crain threw his socks in the hamper today, he might be ready opening day or soon after, it is pretty apparent Jesse is going to need a lot of things to go right to pitch in the major leagues effectively this year or ever for that matter.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) K thx. I can't see a veteran being too fired up about pitching or playing an exhibition game against the AAA Affiliate after 6 weeks of spring training. No reason for your dick response. The bullpen was worse than Danks tonight.
  11. If it's time to talk about Danks it's time to talk about the rest of the rotation. Who cares about tonight? Abreu went hitless. A couple of relievers were terrible. THE GAME DIDN'T COUNT.Relax.
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) The point is that the s***tiest, most overpaid players on a team are ALWAYS the "whipping boys." This isn't some massive conspiracy to slander the Beckham family name. He didn't kill any of our dogs nor steal any of our girlfriends. People just hate the bad players, man, it's normal. Let's give it a rest. Funny, those aren't the 3 worst guys on the team. And the point I made was people praise s***ty players. Look at Bonifacio. He makes almost as much as Flowers and Beckham combined, and he is a pretty s***ty player, yet gets praised, and we get the "if he is used properly" crap. I would love to see someome in this board "use" a guy "properly" and only have him face pitching from one side.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 01:13 AM) Bryant's interview on ESPN sounds like a completely entitled prick vs. Rodon. He knows why he is in AAA. But the cases, even though they are in the same boat, apples and oranges. One guy has 24 total innings pitched in the minors, the other guy, an 1.100 OPS in about 750 plate appearances. I would imagine if Rodon stayed in AAA all this season and totally dominated, didn't get called up in September, and next spring was sent back to Charlotte after leading the Cactus League in several categories (on CSN yesterday they claimed Bryants spring was the second best of all time) he would probably be at least as upset as Bryant, although I do think Bryant should have just kept his mouth shut. It isn't like he will change Theo's mind.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) I honestly think Bonifacio was signed to be the backup OF until Shuck was able to tear up Spring Training. And they only played Shuck in the corner OF spots. They did throw him in CF a couple of innings yesterday. I would imagine he is still behind Bonifacio, but maybe not that much.
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) AKA the worst players on our team that aren't making league minimum. What is strange about that? 2 of them make about 50% of average, and one of them that makes a lot had an injury. What's wrong is even when they do well, it is basically totally ignored, and if others do just as poorly, that is ignored no matter what they make. Why are you so worried about what they make?
  16. Cutler donated a signed ball to the Anti Cruelty Society's fundraiser. There were no bids.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) Beckhamtalk.com Good one. Did you see the Clubhouse renovation thread? Guess the only player who has been mentioned in that thread? This site needs to change its name.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 04:46 PM) I don't think anyone is touching Flowers as far as regulars. Flowers, Beckham and Danks are the punching bags. Flowers and Beckham can go 3 for 4 and the game if lost will come back to the time they made an out.
  19. Drabek should not be on the roster. Send him down, and if someone claims him, oh well.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 10:28 PM) Sox fans=Not fooled by snazzy marketing campaigns One thing matters. First place, and looking like you can make a legit run into the post-season. Didn't work in 2012.
  21. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) They still are paying for them. Not pepsi or miller, or any other sponsor. Yes but they probbly already had 10k tickets sold for these games, and probably a little more. This promotion isn't going to effect the amount of shirts required.
  22. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Stupid f***ing paywall. I got to see 1 picture. Just google New White Sox clubhouse amenities and the search will find the article and get you behind the paywall.
  23. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) If that was the case, they'd paper ( comp) the joint. The rent can't exceed 3 million. So "suppressing " attendance to save a million dollars is half ass backwards. Especially considering that this offer is good on free shirt mondays, a giveaway that has no sponsor. Meaning te sox are paying for the shirts. This is to draw in extra revenue and make the park look fuller on TV. Do you think they LIKE being #27 out of 30 teams in attendance? You think they like getting s*** offers for sponsorship? The sox have the BEST stadium deal in MLB. They can swallow the additional rent payment just on konerko night's beer sales. Isn't free t shirt Monday capped at 10k shirts? They probably pay about $1 each for those. A friend of mine used to sell bootleg concert t shirts. It used to cost him $0.80 each to produce, and he wasn't doing anywhere near 10k in volume.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 11:47 AM) And what day did I say that? I'm guessing it was in October. Probably it came before they added LaRoche, Me.Cabrera, Duke, Samardzija, Soto, Beckham (pushed them over the top and past KC), Bonifacio, Rodon (to active roster), Crain, Albers, etc. If the White Sox came back with the same team as ended 2014, yeah....2015 would have been over. But what's your point, exactly? That I should have gotten out a magic 8 ball and envisioned last October what Hahn was going to do this offseason...because I'm sure there are posts all over SoxTalk with you predicting/projecting exactly what has transpired, right? Now you're just picking fights because you have nothing better to do with yourself, it seems. The point is you must think Finnegan and Duffy are at the top of their position if the season is over because of them. And then you run this list. They aren't on the list, and you don't even support them on the list. I think that's a little odd. And it wasn't October.
