  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 08:22 AM) Well if the Sox suck next year, nobody here better blame Rick Hahn, because he is doing everything Soxtalk has demanded. I think Bonifacio gets overrated because of a couple hot streaks (mostly fantasy baseball fans), but he's still better than a lot of the bench pieces the Sox have recently had. One thing I did notice about him was at least one year with the Marlins and his start with the Cubs, is he gets ridiculously hot for about a week, then his numbers dropped. He did have a really good year a few years ago as a regular. I don't know much about his defensive prowess, but if he is at least average, it should help the team.
  2. Hopefully he fares better than other Soxtalk must have acquistions, Cintron and Mackowiak. But he is versatile. I don't think he's worth $4 million, but what the heck. 2015 should be fun. Thanks, Dick.
  3. I don't think the White Sox will retire 13. Thanks, Dick.
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 3, 2015 -> 02:23 PM) I think Robin's biggest problem in how his career is perceived is that he was on the same team as the greatest (clean) hitter of that generation. When your numbers are constantly appearing right next to Frank's in the boxscore, it's hard to appreciate how good he really was. In the full seasons he played with Frank, Frank's peak years, 1991-1998, throw out 1997 because of injury, Robin averaged less tahn 1 WAR less per season than Frank. You are right, people really don't realize how good he was.
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 3, 2015 -> 02:12 PM) That injury really didn't effect him much. He lost a littler range in his ankle but he wasn't a speed guy so it didn't effect his play other than the time he lost. Ozzie was a very good player for the Sox. The defense he played at short was very good. He wasn't an offensive star but at that time the team didn't need it from him. I would retire his jersey for all of the contributions to the Sox as both a player and manager. He was well above .500 and was top 5 or so in all time wins for the Sox as well as the only modern day World Series winner. I think it affected the last few years of his career. He was using a cane a year after he retired before getting some more surgery.he was pretty much done at 3B at 34. His doctor called it post traumatic arthritis.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) i think the Sox are done with all major moves for now. They are probably going into "lets see what we've got" mode until June or July, and adjust accordingly He has to save something for Soxfest Eve.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) So my conclusion after reading this page is that Michael Barrett should be named manager Albert Belle.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 02:37 PM) Well yeah, everybody knows that. But it's not that easy to make it happen without stealing money out of the bowls' pockets. They run everything. Make it 8. Play the gsmes that narrow it to 4 in the higher seed's stadium a week after the season is over, and the bowls still get their games.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) Maybe it would be better to say he might WANT Tucker. The last full season Del Rio was HC was the first that he allowed Tucker to call the plays on defense. They were ranked 5th by DVOA, and 6th in yardage, 7th by PFF. It was arguably the best defense he ever had as a head coach Even if the new coach wanted Tucker, there is no way he comes back as DC. Too huge of risk. Whether it is fair or not, Tucker is the one being blamed for the defensive problems. If he came back and that unit still sucked, the hit the Bears would take would be enormous.
  10. Hub said last night he would be shocked if Brandon Marshall comes back. Said he was a cancer in the locker room. Another short honeymoon.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) Now that it has become so easy to look up players' platoon splits, everybody has gone off the deep end on wanting platoons. A major league roster carries 25 players, and just about every team carries 12 pitchers. After 9 starting position players you have four bench spots left. Your backup catcher rarely is able to play other positions, so that leaves three bench spots to cover 7 other spots on the field. You don't have the luxury to really use more than one of these as a platoon. The only guy on the Sox that is really a platoon candidate is Gillaspie. The other guys are going to have splits and you're going to have to live with them. If their overall numbers are good, then that's fine. Especially don't worry about lefties who have bad splits vs LHP. Remember, they are never going to have to face two of the three best lefty starters in the AL. Who knows, that may have been a factor in getting LaRoche. "Let's see, I go to the White Sox and never, ever have to bat against Chris Sale? Sign me up!!" The other part of platoons is unless it is a guy used to platooning, the lack of consistent AB may harm his performance vs. that split. Especially guys that kill lefties, since there aren't that many.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) One thing about Gase is that since the broncos have a bye-week I believe he's technically actually allowed to interview this week but not next. Possible someone could interview him and have a hire lined up during that period if the Bears don't at least show interest. This is correct. These guys with the bye can be interviewed now. If you don't do it now, you may have to wait 3 weeks.
  13. I would imagine 13 is available. It is not a popular number. Ozzie wore it for Dave Concepcion.
  14. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) Wrigley is not as good transit wise as Sox Park. The red Line stop services three lines, but it's only ONE STATION. 10k people go into ONE STATION postgame. Sox have three SEPARATE stops/lines on 35th street. big differenace. Bus service means nothing when there are 12-15k cars filling the streets in a square mile around wrigley. LSD does NOT have an Addison exit. You need to get off at Irving or Belmont. AND, the Drive is a parking lot as you get into rush hour from Roosevelt TO Hollywood. The Kennedy exit for Addison(and Irving) is as far West as Pulaski. That's almost FOUR MILES from the Friendly Confines.(Belmont is at Kedzie, which makes it around three miles west). The Dan Ryan exits for Sox Park(31st, 35th, and Pershing exits ) are HALF A BLOCK EAST OF THE STADIUM! The Cubs have a free(con't argue with that) remote lot for 1000 cars, but that is at Irving and Rockwell, still about 2 miles from the park. And fans need to take a shuttle from there. Sox have 7000 ON-SITE parking spaces. At a reduced cost of $20 per game($10 on sundays). You got me beat on the oh so important nightlife and "hang out after the game options". But The sox allow tailgating pre-game(with a little postgame) and I always see the vast majority of cars leave the park as soon as the game ends. Maybe the marketplace has spoken in that regard. Yet the Cubs draw and the Sox do not.if everything remains status quo when it is time for a new building, there is no way the Sox stay where they are at.
  15. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) Wait...so Tucker is still employed with the Bears? I thought his firing would just be a given since he was brought in by Emery who is now fired. This organization cant help but be fun bad with everything they do. Just a formality.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) "Is this a sign that you don't have an idea of what you want? Or do you consider this normal?" in reference to Accorsi, haha. They just said it was a tool, blah blah. I'd really like much more info on what Accorsi is doing. Accorsi was a comsultant for the Panthers GM search 2 years ago.
  17. If you are a non Bears Chicago sprts team and want to bury some news, today is the day to announce what you want buried.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) The second Suh stomp looks intentional. What is wrong with that guy? The first one may or may not have been intentional, but he knew whose leg he was on. Like Aikman said, everyone has stepped on a toe or foot before, and you immediately react. He didn't. If he didn't know whose leg he was on, it could have been his teammate's. The Lions organization from the coffee guy to the owner and their fans should be beyond disgusted with him. He truly is an idiot.
  19. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) It was a great pick. It was also a reach. Those don't have to be mutually exclusive. It was a reached based in where Mel Kiper and Todd McShay had him ranked. There was talk the Bears should have moved down 4 or 5 spots. Howie said another team had called and Kyle would have been off the board. That might be BS, but teams don't rank players the exact same as the ESPN guys.
  20. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) Kudos to George. These were absolutely the right moves. Years ago, I would have been celebrating. Today, as an old man with a family and mortgage, I hate to see anyone lose their jobs, even ones with a bit of contractual security to cushion the blow. I feel the same way, but these guys will still get paid millions to watch their grass grow the next couple of years, and I think should not have much problem finding other jobs, obviously a rung or 2 below where they were at here.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 09:15 AM) Did you guys see the picture that Rich Campbell tweeted yesterday of Emery sitting next to George in the press box? That had to be a very uncomfortable time for Emery Imread where Emery's wife was sitting in between them for a while, and Morrissey wrote George was celebrating like they won the Suoer Bowl after each Feely FG.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 09:02 AM) I liked his procedures in general, questioned some of them (the overdrafts of SMC and Kyle Long, for example), but as someone else said, whatever metric drove him to give Cutler that much money on a multi year deal sealed his fate. Kyle Long is an overdraft? I think Emery got that one right.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) He had a lot to prove after making Shea McClellin his first pick. Shea, Trestman, and Cutler's contract are hard to overcome. Other than those 3 moves, he did some good things. I think the defense being as bad as it was, wasn't exactly a feather in his cap, although it would have been interesting if the offense had lived up to expectations. I heard one of the postgame shows yesterday, and the analyst was talking about how the defense rarely played with a lead, and what a difference that made. Emery being out after the circus this became isn't a raw deal for him.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) I'll admit, there is a part of me that would have preferred to keep Emery. His misses were too big.
  25. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 08:39 AM) I don't know how much weight Kaplan's sources have but David Kaplan ‏@thekapman 6m6 minutes ago Source confirms to me that the Bears will hire consultant w/ football experience to lead search to revamp organization. #majorhousecleaning Kaplan has good sources. The Jets hired Casserly and Ron Wolf to help them . I think Phillips should stay on with the business side. I hope they are finally doing this the right way.
