  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 06:46 AM) Pretty sure all of the comments about Eaton were unattributed Yes. Usually those types are laughable, and even if they had merit, Eaton wouldn't be the first guy who grew up. Who cares what someone thought, the D Backs blew it by giving him up.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) They will count an inside the park homer the same as they do a regular home run, which isn't necessarily fair and could or should be something they account for in the future, but the difference is usually so small that it rarely makes a difference. I honestly can't remember any player ever hitting 2 inside the park home runs in a season. Dick Allen once hit 2 in one game for the White Sox.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 11:56 AM) 20 home runs too, which do count as hits but are not a ball in play. 325 x .350 = 113.75, which I rounded up to 114 plus 20 home runs, which is 134 hits. Home Runs don't count as a ball in play? That's a new one to me. I never knew that. What if it is an inside the park?
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) This is a really good post and outlines the general concerns with Davidson extremely well right now, but I think it's a little off. We'll say in 600 plate appearances, he strikes out 200 times, walks 55 times (9.5% or so, which is his career rate), and 20 homers. We're also going to make a few more assumptions - no sac flies, no HBP, 25 doubles, and no triples. With a .350 BABIP - which is still incredibly high, which is what you were getting at to begin with - his triple slash is .246/.315/.411/.726. That's a little above league average overall for 3B - .259/.318/.397/.715 - but is still not good. And remember, that's with a .350 BABIP which is incredibly high. There are a lot of flaws in Davidson's game and a lot of it is corrected if he makes better contact, but that's a whole lot easier said than done. I think your math is a little off. If he has 600 plate appearances and 55 walks and nothing else, he has 545 AB. Subtract 200 strikeouts. 345 x .350=121. 121/545=.222 and 121+55/600=.293, and the slugging would be 25 x2= 50 + 20 x 4=80 + 76 singles =206/545=.378 .222/.293/.671.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) I debated posting that article, but finally decided, there was no actual information within it. It is all speculation, from the very first word being "If", all of the way to the end. We don't know that the Sox will support the same expenditures, as we know revenues were down this year. There was less advertising and less fans at the park. We don't know that they will take the money which had been allotted to the farm system and directly place them into the major league payroll. What it to stop that money from going to something else? Maybe it goes to Jeff Keppinger to finish his buyout? Maybe it goes to an upgrade inside the ballpark? Maybe it covers losses from this year? As you read that article just remember, there isn't a single new quote from Rick Hahn, Kenny Williams, and/or Jerry Reinsdorf in there. There was an additional $25 million in TV revenue. And the Sox don't pay for upgrades to USCF. And JR said in an earlier interview that the team will make money this season. Granted, we don't know what the payroll will be. It might be $120 million. It might be $85 million. It probably all depends on what they can get done with the guys they want on the team.
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) I understand, the power was still there, if he can manage to hit 250-270 like he has before, still think Davidson has a future with the Sox. He strikes out wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too much. He is a 200 strikeout guy right now, at the major league level.. If he gets 600 AB and fans 200 times that is 400 AB where he hits the ball. Even with a .350 BABIP, he is a .233 hitter, and it's not like he is a 100 walk a year guy, or a 40 home run guy at the moment. They probably keep him because he isn't worth much right now, but IMO, you should take the attitude he is a broken prospect. If he fixes himself to the point where he can be useful, it's a surprise and a bonus.
  7. Santiago has a lot of fans here, but as a starter, he went more than 6 innings 1 time. He is a bullpen killer. If he can't figure out a way to conserve his pitches and go deeper into games, he is a #5 starter at best, and probably belongs in the bullpen.
  8. I am pretty sure Cutler has 0 INTs in Bears wins this year.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) Kenny was saying things like that years before he moved to the executive position. He did get re-married and his wife is an anchor at NBC in Chicago, so I would doubt that he would move. These days he can do that job from somewhere other than LA. I think he lived in AZ for a couple years when he was the GM for the White Sox. He also wouldn't be the first guy who said the job ate him up and ultimately was up for getting back in. if the Dodgers really want him, with all of their resources, IMO, a big offer would be hard to turn down if he is as competitve as he and others say. There are only 30 of these jobs in the world. If he thinks that perhaps, maybe, possibly....he might want to do it again sometime, if this is available to him, he may have to jump. A year or two from now he may not be a consideration for similar positions.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 02:49 AM) He sucked if all you remembered was him screwing up. But you probably forgot he hit .270/.335/.405 with the Sox the last 5 years. But De Aza is what he is. He's a 4th OFer on a good team and a starter on a bad team (which we have been for the past 2 years). If you take a look back at De Aza's first stint with us, he hit even better than he's hitting now in Baltimore and that was over 54 games, not 20. The last 4 minths of the season he hit .299. He was brutal for most of April and May, but he picked it up both offensively and defensively. As you pointed out, many only like to remember the bad.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 06:32 PM) here is a question, can you trust Hahn in being able to recognize talent. kw went out and view Jose A and other prospects as well. all we know is Hahn can evaluate the talent. we do not know if Hahn can go out and view the talent. There were plenty of teams on Abreu. If the big boys in Boston and NY and Anaheim ,Magic Johnson land and the northside of Chicago needed a 1B, his price would have gone a lot higher, and he probably is playing somewhere else. Balta acts like KW discovered Abreu on some back field. The signing was JR. Hahn is supposedly the GM. If he is, let him do his job without interference.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 06:19 PM) I am perfectly content with Kenny Williams in his current role and would be disappointed if he were to leave as a fan of the White Sox. As a "top level scout" he is incredibly useful and Jose Dariel Abreu re-proves that. No. You taught me yesterday that Abreu playing better than his salary is because of the manager. BTW, if JR listened KW's dollar figure for Abreu, he is playing somewhere else.
  13. I wouldn't mind it being the Hahn show. It isn't quite Theo and Jed. I bet if you asked a little more than casual baseball fans who the GM of the Cubs is more than half would say Theo. KW has for the most part, layed low. But we all know he has an ego, and I wonder how low he would be laying if the team was winning 90 games a year. If you like Dodgers prospects and players,KW to LA probably enhances chances of deals between the teams.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) I chuckle at all the criticism of managers. He implements the bunt. Big deal. Lots of teams still bunt. His one mistake this year IMO was bringing in Ventura in relief the other night. Other than that it's just fans being fans in criticizing him. If you lose you can always blame the manager. People are blaming Robin for certain moves he makes with the historically inept bullpen. So dumb IMO. I think Bochy had someone bunt who has never bunted and led to the only Giants win. It would have been interesting had that failed if his decision would have been thought of as the same amount of idiocy it certainly would have been referred had Yost called for it or even Robin. Robin gets crap for bunting even though the facts are he bunts less than everyone else.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) I think shoulder. They have been really secretive about it. Get ready for Sharpton and Jones, everybody I heard he has a rib. He'll be fine.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 01:54 PM) You always prefer guys starting over relieving. If and when the Sox have an abundance of starting pitching, and Bassitt proves incapable of starting, then he'll be moved to the pen. The next time the White Sox have too many starters will be the first. I agree with the second point. If they don't think he can crack the rotation but could help relieving, I think he gets moved to the bullpen. His being so gung ho about it will probably eventually seal his fate, unless he just shows he is more than just a back end guy.
  17. Brian Billick is now comparing Cutler to Jeff George.
  18. There is a Tribune article saying Cooper is making a rare appearance at the AFL, as the Sox try to accelerate the progress of their younger pitchers to use as bullpen pieces. The most interesting part was the quote from Bassit, who seems to WANT to be a reliever.
  19. Colorado was the only bullpen with a higher FIP than the White Sox ans the White Sox bullpen xFIP was the worst in baseball.
  20. Now he might wind up in jail for smoking pot. Funny thing is, if he was high when his kid was pissing him off, he probably doesn't whip him.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) Wasn't that Jermaine Dye's wrap before we struck big on him? We are going to need to take a shot at something. I agree they have to take chances, but when GarGo plays 115 games and puts up a .715 OPS, you probably regret ignoring the flashing red lights you see as you are about to complete the trade.
  22. The Rockies aren't going to give him away. That is pretty apparent. So it will take something more than halfway decent to get him.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) Ah yes, I forgot the common player that never needs to be spelled and we only carry 3 outfielders. When you are starting Jordan Danks for a month or a month and a half, trading actual good prospects for GarGo makes even less sense. I'd rather they get someone they could actually count on to play 150-155 or more games. Not someone you hope at this stage defies what his history has shown.
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:19 PM) Yep. Seems these outs also seem to work for the team if they can walk away. It worked like a charm for JR with Albert Belle. And I'm sure the Yankees regret not walking away from ARod or CC when the time came. Sign these guys and give them an out in 2 or 3 seasons. It keeps them motivated for more cash. Then let them walk away.
