  1. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:51 PM) Adam Dunn 2011 - .159/.292/.277 - wRC+ of 60 Leury Garcia 2014 - .177/.208/.226 - wRC+ of 11 Ron Karkovice 1986 - .247/.315/.443 - wRC+ of 102 Ron Karkovice 1987 - .071/.160/.141 - wRC+ of -18 (horrendous BABIP luck of .093, career .269, also less than the 100 PA I had unofficially set in my mind as a threshold) Leury Garcia 2014 - .177/.208/.226 - wRC+ of 11 (BABIP of .263, career .279, 133 PA) It was 87-88 for Karkovice, and his BABIP might have been weak but he also fanned 40 times in 95 PA. He hit .130 those years combined.
  2. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) Question for the veteran fans here - what's the worst offensive season by a Sox player you can remember? I wanna compare some of the worst statistically to Leury Garcia 2014. Dunn 2011. Karkovice between 1986-1987 was horrid.
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 07:40 PM) He was "not going to name names" but "we had a guy here that had great talent but was over thinking, was 30 seconds between a pitch" and "cooper couldn't get through to him so we traded him". I'm paraphrasing but that is an accurate summary of what he said. What a horrible thing to say. And EJax was pretty decent with the Sox so I am going with Vazquez.
  4. Beck was working on his Belisario impersonation tonight.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 06:08 PM) And it was successful. Play will resume tomorrow. First protest upheld in 28 years.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) To make this happen we need to have an obvious guy we'd be willing to either trade, demote, or release if Rodon is tearing up the minors in May. If they're not willing to eat Danks's contract and Noesi is pitching as well as he has with the Sox, then that means they need to find an expendable arm to fill that rotation slot in April and May. How many seasons have the White Sox only gone with 5 starters for an entire season? I'll save you some time.........0. While you may be all excited about Noesi now, keep in mind, a year ago, people were all ga ga over Erik Johnson and Andre Rienzo. Surely, if Rodon started out in the minors and was lights out, there would be plenty of room for him in the rotation. Someone is either going to really suck or get hurt. It happens every season.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) At age 39, Michael Jordan averaged 38 minutes per game. 34 year old german knee transplant Kobe Bryant played 38 mpg. Sure do seem to be a lot of abusive coaches in this league! Scottie Pippen had a 6 or 7 year stretch of averaging around 38 minutes a game including over 40 when he went to Houston as a 33 year old. MJ averaged 38.6 minutes his Bulls career.
  8. QUOTE (Iguchicago @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 12:47 AM) I was at the Sox game and was wondering what the hell was going on since there was clear skies at the cell. I live about 3 miles south of Wrigley and about 5 miles north of USCF. A couple of times last night it couldn't have been raining any harder by me.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:47 AM) Retweeted by Matt Abbatacola Schmutzie @Schmutzie_ · 14h Mike Ditka takes stupid to a new level re: Redskins - "It has nothing to do with something that happened lately." http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown...me-controversy- Matt Abbatacola @MattAbbatacola · 14h Da Coach = the sports talk radio gift that keeps on giving The gift that keeps giving seems odd. Does he really want to spend his time talking about how stupid someone is, especially Ditka in Chicago? That may be the problem with sports radio. They don't have enough material to fill up one show, let alone 24 hours of programming a day.
  10. I hope Abattacola has something to tweet about Ditka or is he ascared?
  11. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) Have you been away all summer and missed DeAza's escapades in the field and running the bases? He's actually been pretty decent with both for the most part the last couple of months. Apparently you were the one away and missed the Jordan Danks Experience earlier this season. But overall he is hitting a solid .176. It is funny you mentioned opening day as well. Didn't De Aza go deep twice that day?
  12. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 07:48 AM) Danks should have been on the roster from 2014 opening day with DeAza shown the door. We might have won a couple of more games from his defense alone not to mention better base running than DeAza who doesn't have a clue on the base paths. That's pretty funny. And false.
  13. Another lucky homer for Abreu.LMAO.
  14. Speaking of sticking with it, José Contreras is 10-3 with Tijuana of the Mexican League.
  15. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) This is being old, not racist. This change happened a long time ago, granted, but it's tough for folks to change old habits and does not indicate anything racist, imo. "Colored" became "black" for our parents' generation, but you may still hear an elderly (non-racist) person use the term. "Hispanic" has been mostly replaced by the preferred term, "Latino", but you still hear the former a lot. Yes, Hawk should probably no better, being in the public spotlight, just that this part of it seems rather innocent to me. I agree. In the UK, the term is widely used and not considered offensive. They know Hawk isn't using it in a derogatory way, but still call him racist. Anything to take a shot at Hawk. LMAO, if Hawk tries to fight back, they get upset he has a platform to do so. Abattocla is also the guy on the White Sox flagship who several years ago was giving away Sox tickets if sox fans would sing the Go Cubs Go song. His personal agenda, he is a Cubs fan.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) I still think it's worth a shot in September to see if he gains a few mph on the heater He needs to be able to throw strikes. I am at the game and watched him throw 3 WP in a row warming up in the bullpen.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) I still think it's worth a shot in September to see if he gains a few mph on the heater He needs to be able to throw strikes. I am at the game and watched him throw 3 WP in a row warming up in the bullpen.
  18. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 03:00 PM) It's all about getting on base and driving in runs. That's what Big Hurt was great at before the steroid era made everything about the HR. The point being there is no need to panic about Abreu. He will start finding the seats again on a frequent basis before long.
  19. RV is so stupid. Webb needs to be closing.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) The "lucky" home run thing is stupid. The only "luck" he has is being strong and skilled enough to turn deep flyballs into outs. I also think 18 of his HR have gone over 400 feet.
  21. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) How long has it been since he homered? Like July 15th or something? Frank Thomas took 25 games to hit his first HR.
  22. Mascot day. Mascots on the field. No sign of Paulie.
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 08:30 PM) Blue Jays message board is saying that the Sox lucked out on BABIP last night and tonight it is evening out. Fangraphs is a helluva drug.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) The first to crucify people for sexism, are the first to exploit it for ratings. Just like many of the same people slamming Hawk for being an old school sexist, are exploiting the idea that females have to all come in some sexually optimal form, otherwise they are inferior to the rest of their sex and aren't desirable for the opposite sex. Yes. All you have to do is go read the Hot Babe thread and you will find a couple hypocrites. BTW, has anybody yet asked any women if they were offended by Hawk's comments? For the record, I have no problem with the Hot Babes thread.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 08:15 AM) Good God of course that's not what he said but for some unknown reason a poster put a comment that a man's baseball team would beat a women's baseball team. Perhaps they felt that was productive. And if you don't think what hawk said was wrong you should go to your niece or daughter or nearby young girl, show her the clip and explain to her why it's not wrong. The reason anyone became so offended by this, and again, no women as of yet,is because they are card carrying Hawk haters. 4 years ago the Tribune published a poster during the Stanley Cup Final of Chris Pronger in a skirt calling him Chrissy Pronger. There was no big deal. On this site someone posted it and said they couldn't believe it wasn't being talked about. Illini did say it was stupid but did not go on about why. Others who are saying what Hawk said is just wrong said nothing although they were posting. Then there was the Chrissy Pronger is gay in the Blackhawk locker room. No outrage. . Besides if you think about it Hawks usage is not sexist. What do women generally put skirts on to do? Not getting dirty and physical. The Pronger thing had looks like Tarzan plays like Jane. Far more sexist if you want to be PC and not just admit males are just better at these games than females or there would be female participation.
