  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) I'm taking the troll bait on this one...why on earth would you give Dunn a D? List actual reasons. Do you look at statistics or know how on base percentage works? Have you looked at how the league has produced? Do you understand what a good hitter is in today's environment? No objective person who knows anything about baseball would give Adam Dunn a D. This either means you are not objective or you know nothing about baseball, and I've seen that you have knowledge regarding the game of baseball. And, while we're at it and giving out grades, what would your grade for Paul Konerko be this season? I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT HIS PAST. I'm talking about this season. Adam Dunn will have been paid $56 million for 4 years where he put up a collective -1.2 WAR. Giving him a D is being very kind. Dunn seems like a good guy and a good teammate, and one guy who I have never seen loaf. I am not a member of his hater club, but face it, he was a bust.
  2. This guy owes Abreu some dinners. No way he gets what he gets if Abreu is hitting .250 with 13 homers.
  3. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 10:12 PM) No idea what this board's love affair with Gillaspie is....he's a fine UTL guy to have off of the bench, but no idea why anybody thinks he's a long term solution for this team. I fully expect him to be replaced by the time we are serious contenders. May or may not be by Davidson, but he's below average in the field, average at best speed and has little to no power. And then there's his wildly unrealistic to repeat .350 BABIP this year....again, Davidson may not be the answer, but other options should definitely be explored. Same with 2b and DH All the Semien fans are up in arms over Sanchez getting called up and Merkin saying Johnson is the future at 2B are forgetting the Sox saw Semien as a 3B. Davidson is not the answer. If he can't make contact against AAA trash, his destiny is determined, not to mention he is not a good defensive player. He put up good numbers in Reno, but he basically had a team average OPS.
  4. QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) THAT was the most illogical post you've ever read on this site? Now I know your full of s***. Gillaspie hit .330 for a couple months, hes got a .671 OPS since the all star break. Hes just not that good, and the future of this club would have been better served getting Davidson MLB playing time. If a .671 OPS isn't good, a .660 OPS in AAA is a lot worse.
  5. QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) Nope. This was a 99 loss team, there was no reason for a guy like Gillaspie to be starting at 3B for this team. Davidson was ready and played well in his call up with Arizona the season before. Just because it "worked out" doesn't make it the right move. Gillaspie is worthless to this team, and he will never be on a Sox playoff team. Davidson should have been up here from the get go. Instead, they shipped him to AAA when he shouldnt have been and that to me seems like the biggest reason for his struggles as most of his stats line up with what he did in the minors before. This is perhaps the most illogical post I have ever read on this site. Davidson has proven he clearly isn't ready. Gillaspie has proven he has taken a step up. If you really think the reason Davidson is one of the worst hitters on the Charlotte Knights is because he feels sorry for himself, i want whatever you have been taking. If his psyche is that fragile, there is no way he could be successful in the major leagues.
  6. QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) He should have been the starting 3B entering the year but instead the Sox dicked around with him and sent him to AAA when he had no business being there anymore Yep. He should be in AA.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:31 AM) That's just stupid on both of their parts, especially knowing what a failed drug test does nowadays. As someone who has Bell as their RB1, I sure hope any punishment from the NFL is pushed until 2015 - which it very well may be given how long some of these type of offences take to fully process. They should have beat the s*** out of the woman that was with them. It probably would have cut their upcoming suspensions in half.
  8. I bet the payroll is higher next season than it is today.
  9. Hamilton lost 20 pounds after he signed with the Angels and was never fat. He said he lost weight by drinking vegetable juices. Now he hits half as many homers, and strikes out about 40% more often. Anyone thinking the Sox should pick him up after his history and his performance the last 2.5 years is crazy.
  10. I feel sorry for red skin potatoes. Are they going to be renamed? Maybe, not to be offensive, the NFL team should just switch out the Indian for some potatoes on their emblem and everyone wins. I do think they should change the name. If a group of people are offended, they are offended, and it doesn't seem unreasonable they are offended. But to me, Chief Wahoo should be way more offensive.
  11. The USCF gun had him at 90-92 his last start. I don't think Danks is done. I don't think anyone is going to trade for him, unless you take back some expensive garbage, but there are worse things than having him around next year.
  12. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 08:47 AM) One thing I think we've all learned about Flowers is that he's streaky. Overall, though, he's looked better this year than in past years. I agree with a couple of the previous posters in saying that if Flowers can end up being a .240+ hitter with some power, I'll take that along with his pretty good defense and familiarity with the staff. Another thing I've learned is that you can count on this thread being bumped or a new thread being created every time Flowers goes on a hot or cold streak. Frankly, I think he's too streaky. Almost everyone is streaky to a certain extent, but if Flowers is going to get all his numbers out of 6 weeks total and the rest of the time be a pitcher at the plate, he really isn't capable of being a catcher on a winning team. But the hot streak does show he has the ability.
  13. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 09:54 PM) Just to continue the predictability, for both me and him, 4 for his last 36 (.111) with a walk and 13 strikeouts BABIP under .200. Very unlucky.
  14. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) Neither are bad choices. I agree with Jackson though. Javy did pitch here for 3 years. Jackson was pretty much one and done. Jackson wasn't traded because of performance. He was traded because he was about to become a free agent.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:30 PM) Sounds like their excuse is that it was wrapped up incorrectly last time, so there was nothing the crew could have done to prevent it yesterday, therefore it's mechanical? Might be a slight bending of the rules, but I am glad to see them use common sense. Yes. A 15 minute rain should not wash out a major league game. Whether or not that technically was a mechanical problem, sometimes common sense is a good thing too.
  16. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:51 PM) Adam Dunn 2011 - .159/.292/.277 - wRC+ of 60 Leury Garcia 2014 - .177/.208/.226 - wRC+ of 11 Ron Karkovice 1986 - .247/.315/.443 - wRC+ of 102 Ron Karkovice 1987 - .071/.160/.141 - wRC+ of -18 (horrendous BABIP luck of .093, career .269, also less than the 100 PA I had unofficially set in my mind as a threshold) Leury Garcia 2014 - .177/.208/.226 - wRC+ of 11 (BABIP of .263, career .279, 133 PA) It was 87-88 for Karkovice, and his BABIP might have been weak but he also fanned 40 times in 95 PA. He hit .130 those years combined.
  17. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) Question for the veteran fans here - what's the worst offensive season by a Sox player you can remember? I wanna compare some of the worst statistically to Leury Garcia 2014. Dunn 2011. Karkovice between 1986-1987 was horrid.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 07:40 PM) He was "not going to name names" but "we had a guy here that had great talent but was over thinking, was 30 seconds between a pitch" and "cooper couldn't get through to him so we traded him". I'm paraphrasing but that is an accurate summary of what he said. What a horrible thing to say. And EJax was pretty decent with the Sox so I am going with Vazquez.
  19. Beck was working on his Belisario impersonation tonight.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 06:08 PM) And it was successful. Play will resume tomorrow. First protest upheld in 28 years.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) To make this happen we need to have an obvious guy we'd be willing to either trade, demote, or release if Rodon is tearing up the minors in May. If they're not willing to eat Danks's contract and Noesi is pitching as well as he has with the Sox, then that means they need to find an expendable arm to fill that rotation slot in April and May. How many seasons have the White Sox only gone with 5 starters for an entire season? I'll save you some time.........0. While you may be all excited about Noesi now, keep in mind, a year ago, people were all ga ga over Erik Johnson and Andre Rienzo. Surely, if Rodon started out in the minors and was lights out, there would be plenty of room for him in the rotation. Someone is either going to really suck or get hurt. It happens every season.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) At age 39, Michael Jordan averaged 38 minutes per game. 34 year old german knee transplant Kobe Bryant played 38 mpg. Sure do seem to be a lot of abusive coaches in this league! Scottie Pippen had a 6 or 7 year stretch of averaging around 38 minutes a game including over 40 when he went to Houston as a 33 year old. MJ averaged 38.6 minutes his Bulls career.
  23. QUOTE (Iguchicago @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 12:47 AM) I was at the Sox game and was wondering what the hell was going on since there was clear skies at the cell. I live about 3 miles south of Wrigley and about 5 miles north of USCF. A couple of times last night it couldn't have been raining any harder by me.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:47 AM) Retweeted by Matt Abbatacola Schmutzie @Schmutzie_ · 14h Mike Ditka takes stupid to a new level re: Redskins - "It has nothing to do with something that happened lately." http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown...me-controversy- Matt Abbatacola @MattAbbatacola · 14h Da Coach = the sports talk radio gift that keeps on giving The gift that keeps giving seems odd. Does he really want to spend his time talking about how stupid someone is, especially Ditka in Chicago? That may be the problem with sports radio. They don't have enough material to fill up one show, let alone 24 hours of programming a day.
  25. I hope Abattacola has something to tweet about Ditka or is he ascared?
