AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!
I still fault Robin. Abreu didn't practice hitting into DPs enough in Spring Training.

Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) If the NASCAR equivalent of Thome/Konerko/Dye was driving, it would be a non-issue, he'd get the benefit of the doubt and everyone would be be feeling sorrier for the driver and his family. Because Tony Stewart is more or less AJ Pierzynski/Bryce Harper/Yasiel Puig rolled into one, it's not so cut-and-dried for many. What I think it is a guy hits a homer showboats around the bases next time up is leaning over the plate pitcher decides to buzz him and winds up hitting him in the head and killing him.

Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?
QUOTE (Tmar @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) http://jalopnik.com/this-is-the-view-from-...-car-1620047682 Still, he said: "I seen Kevin clear as day. Nobody else ran into him, either." Stewart really didn't run into him either until he excelerated and his back end spun into him. He either has the worst timing of all time, is an utterly incompetent driver, or wanted to show the guy pulling a Tony Stewart on Tony Stewart who the boss was.

Pedro Alvarez
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) I created this thread about Alvarez. I'd love him as the primary DH next year and he could spell Abreu at 1B from time to time. I'd never trade Quintana for him though. Not a chance. Hopefully they could match up another way. If it was Alvarez, considering it was a 3 way trade, the Sox and Pirates don't match up perfectly.

Phillies/Red Sox might be working on big deal
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) Hamels couldn't be traded until the offseason though, right? Correct.

Konerko's Farewell Tour
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) Your reading comprehension needs some work. I just got finished saying I can't predict the future on whether having PK hurt the franchise in the long run and it's not about the 25th spot on the team. It's about doing the things that winners do , showing the fans you're 100% dedicated to building a winner. There is no room for sentiment . The fans had plenty of time last year to say goodbye to PK . But that is what they were doing. It was a role where you aren't going to "develop" someone. He is mentoring, which should have some value. It isn't a role that is to be judged soley by his on field performance, which, BTW, was fine for the role he has been in. It is rare a player with Konerko's stature takes a role like this. But that shouldn't mean anything negative. If Paul Konerko being on this roster makes you think the White Sox aren't 100% dedicated to building a winner, perhaps you are the one with comprehension issues.

Konerko's Farewell Tour
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 10:38 AM) I'm certainly not going to say I can predict the future and say one more year of PK will hurt the franchise in the long run nor should you by saying it doesn't matter. It just sent mixed messages to how truly dedicated Sox management is to a rebuild, I understand Reinsdorf wants to show loyalty to Sox players and how important that is to him. The Blackhawks dumped Denis Savard as coach when they felt he wasn't the coach they needed going forward yet kept him in another capacity. They brought in Scotty Bowman a guy who had years and years of success for Montreal and Detroit. What did the Sox do? They hired a former player to manage the team with no experience and then gave him an extension. They gave PK another year. Would it have been "nice" for the Hawks to be loyal to former players ?Yes very nice. But I'll take contending for the Stanley Cup and hiring winners with proven track records every time. Konerko is in a positon to barely get 200 plate apperances for the season. Do you really want a young player with potential to be a regular basically wasting a year of development ? Your complaining might be valid if Paulie expected to be a regular, but he was a PH and an option vs. LHP which there isn't a lot of, and he is supposedly mentoring. His being on the roster didn't hurt anyone's development. Who should have had his role?

Pedro Alvarez
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 10:22 AM) Not by as much as you'd think, though, and Butler is definitely the one in a tailspin at the moment. Also, Butler would have to be acquired via trade. I don't think we should re-sign Dunn, I just wanted to point out that Billy Butler is a lot worse than the Soxtalk collective currently thinks, it seems. You would have to figure Butler's option isn't getting picked up. But if the Royals make the playoffs, sometimes teams are more reluctant to let people go.

Pedro Alvarez
You also have to think Dunn isn't going to be getting any better, but I don't think Butler is the answer. Pass on both. Moving forward, Alvarez has a lot more upside than either IMO, although Butler is probably more of a sure bet. But Alvarez is LH and could DH/1B. I also like the idea of Mourneau if the medical staff didn't have issue with his head injuries. He's put up good numbers outside of Coors this season, and used to be a beast. Although he is a few years older, it could be a similar thing to the Jermaine Dye signing.

More MLB names uncovered in Biogenesis investigations
There was a report that there were some pretty well known names, but no stars last week. So I doubt Big Papi is listed.

Sox were close to 3 way deal
Hahn said it was a player they have been coveting for a while. I'm guessing that knocks out BJ Upton and if they really wanted Santana, they could have had him this past winter. As for Stanton, if this trade was a 3 way, that means whoever the Sox were offering was/where going to a 3rd team, so unless the info actually comes out some day, it is really going to be tough to figure out because the team the player would be coming from wouldn't be getting equal value White Sox players.

Jonathan Niese somehow clears waivers
It isn't like they were going to give him away.

Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?
QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 05:22 PM) lol, what's more macho than a person confronting a guy in a moving car? He couldn't leave it alone. So he tries to kick a little dirt his way, and the guy is dead. If anyone could understand a guy on the track pissed off at a competitor, you would think it would be Tony Stewart.
-
Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?
QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) so youre just going to ignore what others who have driven those types of cars have said when it comes to it being hard to see out of the right side of the car because of the design of these cars? just going to ignore another driver in that race who said he saw him at the last second and just missed hitting him? the greatest drivers in the world arent going to see through a blind spot. If they can't see out of the cars they shouldn't be racing them. Stewart would have missed him too if he hadn't tried to be the more macho guy.

Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?
QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) What's really strange is how you ignore that the guy in the car before Stewart has said he saw him at the last second and that Stewart would've had even less time to see him. If he would have hit him head on, I would agree and say he didn't see him. But that is not what happened. The guy shouldn't have been on the track, I agree with that, but it is so naive to think a professional driver, one of the best alive would hit him how he hit him without any intent of trying to scare him or something of that sort. I don't think anyone thinks he hit him on purpose, but hit him he did, and I don't buy the reason he hit him was because he didn't see him.

Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) I agree with Steve. It's Natural Selection. Anybody stupid enough to walk out on the track probably would have found another way to die before too long. So Tony Stewart is destined to die soon. He's been a bit of a track walker himself.

Konerko's Farewell Tour
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) Treat your players with respect? Who is disrespecting him? I respect him. I just don't need to see him on my television. The majority of the fan base doesn't respect Dunn. He's one of "our" players. If you don't need to see him on your television, you have an easy way to take care of that.
-
Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?
It is strange it was Stewart who hit him and not the others that apparently saw him. Stewart has walked on a track befor, himself, even throwing his helmet at a car. I don't think he tried to hit the kid, but scare him, most definitely. The guy belongs in jail, and the deceased's family should get some of his $70 million bank. It was a dick move gone bad.

Konerko's Farewell Tour
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) Uh ya. History doesn't win you games. Nobody hates him though, they simply do not like the old broken down version of him. Treat your players with respect. He still gets the loudest cheers at USCF. It is good at least the "casual" fan appreciates him. Call me a meathead fan, but his overall body of work, and this one AB should be enough for White Sox fans to let him go out like he wants to go out

Konerko's Farewell Tour
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) It's hard to appreciate the good times when over the last two he's been worth -2.6 WAR. That's worse than De Aza, worse than Flowers, worse than Beckham and worse than pretty much every player in MLB. I appreciate Paul Konerko's career. I don't appreciate that he wanted to go out "on his terms" and cost Chicago both development time for a youngster and a few games in the standings. Development time? Whose development time has he taken away ? How many games in the standings did he really cost the team, and what difference would that have made if you even are correct besides perhaps Carlos Rodon being a Cub?

White Sox @ Mariners 3:10CT WGN
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) I get that, but the guy on 1b also can't commit until Abreu does anything, and I don't think Gillaspie is that slow is he? Even the slowest guys score from second on a double with 2 out
-
White Sox @ Mariners 3:10CT WGN
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) Does De Aza know what a cut off man is? Jesus Throw was bad but they had a shot with a good throw, and in that situation, hitting the cutoff man, there is no shot. Missing the cutoff man there wasn't that big of a deal, as far as dumb baseball goes.

Angels need some pitching?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) No, they don't. Time Warner apparently is getting completely screwed on the deal with the Dodgers and so even if the Halos got a new contract it wouldn't be anywhere close to the Dodgers deal unless Time Warner somehow turns around their luck with the legal cases they're losing. The Angels are in the 3rd year of a $3 billion 20 year contract. .Not Dodgers territory, but not bad.

Abbatacola and Rozner both criticize Ventura
Ventura signed an extension that begins next season. He will be the manager unless Rozner and his buddy have a new job that hasn't been announced yet. As for the defense, this has been pretty obvious for a while but everyone wants the Sox to trade Alexei so apparently it isn't so important. I do think finding some more pitchers would help, as would finding a couple of more hitters. Hopefully, Garcia is one of those hitters.

Eaton to DL
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) He's 28 1/2 and he's also hitting .326/.408/.528 since Hahn gave up a really interesting pitching prospect for him. What are Danks' numbers since June 1?
