  1. Isn't McRoberts the guy who gave LeBron a cheap elbow to the neck?
  2. BA just recalculated their top prospect list. Bryant, Baez and Russell are in the top 7. We do the Irish jig if the Sox trade for someone in a team's top 7.
  3. Google the Bryant and Cubs stories last year. Reports were he wasn't going to sign. He signed a couple of days before the deadline for slightly more than slot. Rodon will sign. It's all part of the Boras game. Besides, if Boras has spoken to the White Sox on Rodon's behalf, going back to college is no longer an option.
  4. The Cubs obviously aren't winning this year or next, so you make it like a draft and take the best players available for guys you don't want to pay more than $100 million for when they are over 30 and don't have a long track record of success. With the way pitchers are dropping, maybe waiting until they are ready to win makes the most sense before acquiring them. If Bryant, Baez, Russell, Rizzo.... live up to the hype, they should easily be able to acquire needed pitching down the road. They do have enough hitters now where even if you factor some will bust, they should have a pretty good offense in the next few seasons.
  5. Danks has made 17 starts and 3 were really bad. Throw those out he has a 2.65 ERA the other 14.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) Name one of those $100+ million megadeals for a starting pitcher that the signing team would repeat if they had 20/20 hindsight over the last 10-15 years??? Tanaka's about the only one, and you probably won't be able to say that 3-4 years down the line when he inevitably breaks down or has TJ surgery. Greinke.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) I would guess that means in the $50-100k range I googled and came up with an article from 2009 with the top 31 bonuses given to the Latin players, up until then, Cubans excluded. Miguel Cabrera was on that list then, but only a couple more names many would recognize made the list. It seems given these to be 16-17 year olds, you are far better off spreading some money around than dumping it on one or two. IMO, the Sox have a solid strategy here.
  8. Since his hit tool is deteriorating, and he has been hitting like hot garbage, if we could trade him for a bag of balls, there would be a lot of volunteers willing to drive him to the airport.
  9. On the board today it said Belisario was the Venezuelan League closer of the year in 2010. 14 saves and a 1.00 ERA.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:19 PM) The crowd looked smallish on mlb today. It wasn't bad.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:37 PM) I was disappointed Petricka was removed as well I think they are trying to lighten his load a bit. He has been pitching a lot lately.
  12. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:28 PM) I liked all the signings in the pen, they just haven't worked.....Not only did Jones and Lindstrom go down but Downs and Belly haven't preformed like expected. In todays MLB where relievers are largely hit or miss from year to year those 2 had been fairly consistent. Matt Lindstrom was hated by this board. When he got injured there were several posts indicating it was actually a blessing. I will say it again, if losing Jones and Lindstrom makes your bullpen the worst in baseball, it wasn't anywhere near average to begin with.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:21 PM) Alright Herm. Cano has never faced me either. You know why? Because I'm not an mlb pitcher. Neither is Surkamp. No, but Putnam still entered with a 2 run lead and only one man on, against not exactly the strongest line up in baseball, and he didn't get the job done. Blame Robin all you want, but you are wrong. If he had a decent closer, he wouldn't have to use Surkamp, and if Surkamp isn't a major leaguer why aren't you blasting Hahn
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:18 PM) Things change a lot in two weeks. Gordon Beckham and Dayan Viciedo were dramatically different hitters a couple of weeks ago. Putnam still had at least a modicum of confidence from all of his success in the set-up role. That's funny.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:15 PM) No, that is not what I posted. Read. The idea is to win the game. Cano hits righties better, most likely has never faced Surkamp so it makes sense to put him in there. The way Putnam threw, I don't think anyone can conclude he would have retired Cano. This staff leads the world in walks, and it seems walks always cause problems.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) Does Surkamp even have any experience pitching in a save situation in Charlotte this year? He was in to face Cano only, and then Putnam was going for the save. You know, the guy you said Robin was stupid not to use instead of Petricka a couple of weeks ago.
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) Oops, for whatever reason I was under the impression that he was a fa after this season. Changes things a bit but still a great trade for them imo. It is quite like the KC/TB trade. Sheilds for Myers.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) The problem is that the Cubs don't have as much leverage because everyone knows they have too many middle infielders in Castro, Baez and Russell. Unless Baez can play 3B, then they can't all fit together. Or then you move Alcantara, but how much is he really worth? Plus, Schwarber, Bryant and Rizzo can't fit into LF/1B. One of them will be the odd man out eventually. I have a feeling Russell will end up being closer to Jose Iglesias than Troy Tulowitzki. Beane's not the kind of GM to give up an impact SS unless he feels his offensive game wouldn't translate as well in the Coliseum. FWIW, this is the first time you can make the argument that the A's should be on equal footing with any team in the AL to reach the World Series. If all these guys can play SS, they have plenty of leverage. How many quality SS are available at any time and how many teams are looking for one? Besides, SS can always play other positions. The SS market will never be oversaturated. Beane will probably trade Samardzjia in the winter.
  19. He always had problems with contact even before his injury. He is now a non prospect who has cleaned up in AA for a week or so. If he can't hit in AAA, he certainly can't hit major league pitching. He is filler now who supposedly has a good effect on younger guys.
  20. It is funny when the Sox acquire a prospect rated in the 70-95 range it is awesome, but when the Cubs get a top 15 guy, it is just dumb. Theo is a dope, but could you imagine what a genius Hahn would be if he had 3 of the top 15 and 6 of the top 41 in the Sox minor league system? Samardz has never finished a season as a starter with an ERA lower than 3.81. He is 29. He wants more than $100 million.
  21. 6 LH hitters vs Sale, this game was over before it started.
  22. QUOTE (Iguchicago @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 06:53 PM) Are there really dollar dogs today? It doesn't show up on their official website. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/ticketing/staycation.jsp
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 06:49 PM) He also wants people to believe Rose is the only person on the planet that didn't know Melo was in town. Rose isn't too bright, so if one person didn't know, he would be a prime candidate, but even if Broussard is 100% accurate, it still would be the Bulls didn't include Rose, not Rose refused to participate.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) Today is 1$ hot dogs, or just in the K Zone? For everyone, but you can only buy a max. of 10 at a time.
