Sox @ Tigers, Quintana vs. Scherzer, 4/24, 12:08, CSN
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) Well, that can't be right. Unless it doesn't account for pitches thrown OUT of that zone, because Abreu's 2nd HR in Colorado was on a pitch up and away that he blasted over the RCF wall. The chart indicates he's hitting .500 up and away.

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 11:54 AM) Let's cherry pick In his last 90 plate appearances, he's put up .262/.311/.440/.752. He's on a 4 game hitting streak. He's also a rookie and he's doing fairly well for a rookie. --- You do know that you can just say "I don't like Marcus Semien" and be done with it, right? I really happen to like him and wish he would remain starting because I think he can be a great player for the Sox, but I'm not going to be heartbroken if the Sox feel it's in the team's best interests to send him to AAA. Again, I never said I don't like Marcus Semien. I just find it hysterical he performs worse than other players who get maligned, and gets praised for it, just because of Gordon Beckham venom. If Gordon Beckham had exactly the same season as Semien, people would be calling for his release. Don't think there aren't Sox "fans" on here that are hoping beyond hope Beckham is 0-4 today with 4 strikeouts so they can tell you how bad he is. They wouldn't be saying, yeah he's on pace to strikeout over 200 times and doesn't get on base much, but those strikeouts are helping the offense. Or they wouldn't be making excuses that he strikes out because he works counts. He's walked 6 times, the same amount as Dayan Viciedo with about 50% more plate appearances. The guy could use some time in AAA, if it comes to that. Personally, I say get him some OF experience. He does have a knack to get the big hit. You could move him around. Playing LF wouldn't be hard on him.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) That is what I am thinking. I assume they will give him til Saturday and if he is still hurting they will DL him and bring up a SP Cone-er said this morning he will be out at least a few more days.

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era
QUOTE (shakes @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 11:56 AM) Who cares? The point is people are using his small amount of at bats to declare that he is terrible and should be sent down. He is going through a normal adjustment period for players jumping to the majors, that even Mike Trout went through. He is going to go through this now or later. Now is the perfect time. And even with this adjustment he is already as good as Beckham's career. Mike Trout went down after that start. He started the next season in the minors. So what is the argument again?

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era
QUOTE (shakes @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) He played 32 games at AAA. And you might want to check your numbers on all those guys. He is developing at the highest level and holding his won. There is no better experience than that. The top player line is Mike Trout's line in his first stint in the majors. The bottom is Semien. I'm in NO way saying Semien will be half the player, but as you can see everyone goes through an adjustment period. Even the poster boy for superstars jumping to the majors. G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ TB GDP HBP SH SF IBB 40 135 123 20 27 6 0 5 16 4 0 9 30 .220 .281 .390 .672 89 48 2 2 0 1 0 897/D 42 171 163 20 40 8 1 5 20 4 2 7 50 .245 .275 .399 .674 81 65 4 0 0 1 0 Mike Trout was 19 years old. He also was a top 3 prospect in baseball. Has Semien even cracked a top 100?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) I told you guys we'd take 2 of 3 from the Tigers this series! It's nice to be right all the time...... As someone who is consistently correct, let me tell you, it can be a burden.

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) Semien is 18th in the MLB in P/PA right now at 4.27. Getting pitcher's counts up high and allowing the teammates to see what kind of stuff does have intrinsic value and is part of the reason the Sox offense has been as good as it has. Yes, but striking out is a guaranteed 3. The Sox offense would be better if Semien got on base more than 28% of the time.

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era
What is Semien's long term position anyway? If Davidson is the 3B of the future and Micah Johnson at 2B, where is Semien going to play? If it's SS, shouldn't he be playing there and go off on the Sox for not giving Ramirez away?

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) What about anything in Beckham's career makes him deserve it? What about his .160 BA in AA makes him deserve it? His numbers in AA this year mean nothing. He was rehabbing. It's like spring training numbers. How has that translated for Jordan Danks? Besides, Beckham has better career numbers than Semien. So if Beckham doesn't "deserve" it, why would Semien? Have Semien start taking some fungos in the OF. It's not a big deal having an infielder play some OF. Having an OF move to the infield is a bit more complicated. Many forget, Alexei Ramirez debuted as a CF for the White Sox. Gillaspie said he probably will miss a few more days. I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up DL'd.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 10:06 AM) But Danks is better and more deserving of a roster spot. Danks will go down before Leury.

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) You don't move real prospects around to make room for Gordon Beckham. Creepy avatar guy, Beckham sucks. He just does. What is it about his .280 OBP and 206 strikeout pace that has you so excited? That is a lower OBP and more strikeouts than Adam Dunn had in 2011. Playing the OF can make him more valuable. It isn't like he's a top 5 in baseball prospect. For a guy who complains about redundancy, you sure do post the exact same thing a lot.

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) Why does it always have to come to these ridiculous comparisons? Marcus Semien Josh Fields. Two completely different with completely different skill-sets. Semien displayed elite plate discipline last year in AA. Yes, he is struggling in that department right now like most rookies do initially against major league pitching. However, he's still finding ways to be productive (working up pitch counts, good power, clutch hits) and help the team win games. Also, despite these growing pains, he's only 20 points below Gordon's career OPS of .694. The upside with Semien is legit and we are seeing it in flashes. Beckham has shown over the course of nearly 2,500 plate appearances that he's not very good with the bat. This is a transitional year and we're better off giving playing time to the guy who is expected to be part of the long-term core than the guy who may deliver us a C prospect if all goes well. I didn't compare them as players, but if you want to, Fields got off to a better start and was ranked much higher as a prospect. I compared their situations. Fans are usually wrong. The fact is, Semien has a .280 OBP and is on pace for an Adam Dunn-like 206 strikeouts. Call it what you want, but it's not very good.

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 09:40 AM) Please, no. He's already got enough to think about without getting his mind wrapped around playing 4 or 5 positions. Has he EVER played the outfield in the minors? I think it's just SS, some 2B and just a little 3B. He's a baseball player. It really isn't that hard. It is amazing people think something as complicated as hitting is easily solved by coaching, but something fairly simple, like being an average OF if you have the tools is way too much to think about. Just keep in mind, Hawk mentioned Tony Phillips last night. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not.

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) Semien can't stay on MLB club unless we can find 5 starts/week for him. It will really suck if Leury has to go down. He does exactly what we need from a bench guy and has honestly outhit Semien, albeit in many fewer ABs I think you can find 5 or more starts for him a week if you let him play some OF.

2014 Cubs Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 08:08 AM) http://www.suntimes.com/sports/27019526-41...enue-issue.html Wittenmyer was on 670 about 20 mintues ago discussing above article. It reads bad for the Cubs, and when he expands on it, it sounds worse. It appears the rooftop owners with a contract with the team, are going to be made to be the bad guys. Again, if getting these boards up takes you from being able to support a $75 million payroll to $150 million or more, and considering what you have to pay lawyers, why wouldn't the Cubs just buy out the rooftops? Even at a pretty premium, they would come out way ahead. I guess Bud thinks contracts only should work one way. I've never been a Bud hater, but he just has no case here. Maybe Ricketts didn't sign the deal with the rooftops, but he certainly knew about it when he bought the team.

First time to see the Sox: Seating questions
QUOTE (ndaholic @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 08:25 AM) So two at a time? If that's the case then I'm good. Is it really packed therefore having to stand in line to get beer and taking forever? I want to maximize my beer drinking time. It's not too crowded. Wait times for a beer are less than a minute.Last one I was at was vs. Boston a couple of years ago. There couldn't have been more than 25 people total. It was Labor Day weekend though. It stays open a half hour after the game starts, and you can take a beer with you when you leave.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) Lol, Robin thinks Webb is his long guy. Robin is too clueless to realize Webb should close. Webb was warming up in the 8th inning in case Belasario had some problems.

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era
This reminds me of the venom when Ozzie made Crede the 3rd baseman in 2008. People couldn't live without Josh Fields. I wouldn't be surprised to see Semien stay and play 2B, 3B and maybe some OF. A Tony Phillips-like guy. Hawk did mention Tony Phillips during the game yesterday. But as was posted above, besides his clutch homers (I thought there was no such thing as clutch) Semien has shown he probably could use some time in the minors.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 08:41 PM) I doubt we'll see another guy like Konerko in Sox history, sticking with the team for 16 seasons and never causing a lick of trouble. Lucky that the Dodgers dumped him way too soon and that the Reds wanted Mike Cameron. Quite a player. Not a HOFer, but easily the next rung down. Plus he came up big in the 2005 postseason.
