  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) Just worth pondering whether he's ever actually had a coach tell him the right way to handle that play, and then follow it up with practice and video of what the mistake was. I bet he has. Other Cubans have known how to play defense. He is a bad first baseman. They didn't pay him for his glove.
  2. Melty calling him Sales on the postgame. Shields is now Shield. I love Melty. He just called Chen Chinn. There has to be a drinking game here.
  3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) It's his sixth professional game. Do they play differently in Cuba? If he cannot catch now why would he be able to next year? That is at least 2 drops in 6 games. You don't see that with 8 year old first base men.
  4. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 03:56 PM) How often are we going to hear "Paulie catches that" ...haha How about Dunn catches it?
  5. I guess Robin didn't play enough catch with Abreu during spring training. He is awful with the glove.
  6. What i don't understand bout replay is Hosmer was clearly out. How do they say safe?
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) Hosmer also never touched the bag. I thought the foot was technically part of the bag if it is on it? If it was on it, then he was out. But how can he be safe if he was sitting in the dugout and had yet to touch first base.
  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) Didn't challenge when Hosmer was clearly off the bag a few innings ago And Abreu stepped on his foot, not first base, so he was out anyway.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 09:34 PM) What he's trying to argue is the Cooper is the one who decided to use Cleto against Perez instead of walking Perez to face the 0 for the season Moustakas with a veteran lefty comfortable in the situation who has the slider (which Moustakas struggles against) to record yet another out against Moustakas (0 for 4, 2 K's, career against Downs). Do I believe Ventura is the one who made that decision? 100% yes. He just said it in a "general" way because Cooper does have more control of the pitching staff and decisions than most MLB pitching coaches, that is true. FWIW, Salvador Perez is 3rd in the majors in OPS. Moustakas is last. Short sample, sure...but you don't face that guy instead of an 0-14 guy who's under all the pressure in the world to live up to expectations. The funny thing is everyone wants to rip Ventura for not managing every game like it is the 7th game of the WS, yet on the other hand say the Sox have no shot this year. If they have no shot, what is the harm in seeing what they have in Cleto? If he is going to be effective, he is going to have to come in and get surefire first ballot HOfers like Perez out. If he can't, he isn't half the pitcher Soxtalk pegged him to be less than a week ago. I do know one thing, Downs wasn't looking too effective yesterday. If he did what people wanted and it didn't work, there would have been complaints, and if you don't think Copper influences pitching decisions, you are in denial.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) No. I think he influences it more than you think. He certainly is the guy behind Sale with high pitch counts the last couple years when people here were calling for Ventura's head for leaving him in. He thinks "pitch count guys" are idiots.
  11. Doesn't Cooper make most of the pitching decisions?
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) Agreed, but at least it would have seemed like the right decision. For me, that's really all I want to see by Ventura. So you just want him to play it by the book.
  13. I hate when guys swing and miss and ask the umpire if it was a strike. It is admitting you don't know the zone.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) It's not Mr. Peabody here. Anyone who follows baseball...95% of them...would have done the same thing if presented with the exact same scenario. And there is no guarantee Downs would have retired Moose or that moose would have batted at all.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) Same with Jones...throwing 95-100 doesn't matter if the batter's sitting on it. And yeah, it's not with a ton of movement. Or, I should say...Cleto just has no idea of command or where the ball's going. Cleto was very popular on this board a week ago. Even if his career ERA was over 10.
  16. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 04:02 PM) So he can outmanage a bunch of guys on an internet message board. Wow, impressive. Comsidering these are the same geniuses who think he should do everything they say or he is an idiot, it is.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) Have Dunn pinch-hit. OK
  18. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 03:58 PM) That's been proven a long time ago. Doesn't seem to matter to Jerry and the front office, though. He's one of the boys. Funny thing is he has somehow outmanaged this board this year already.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) Left a fastball right out over the heart of the plate. Cleto has no clue where the ball's going. And the White Sox bullpen implodes again, despite the CS. Passed ball on Nieto. 90 losses is looking generous. It was a hanging slider.
  20. QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) John BuccigrossVerified account ‏@Buccigross 4 days ago Best NBA Record Since January 1 Spurs 33-9 Clippers 32-10 Rockets 28-10 Nets 29-12 Bulls are 32-14. So maybe you heard most wins in the East. The Rose less Bulls are 32-14 and J4L thinks the NBA is better than it has ever been. LMAO.
  21. Eaton takes some strange routes.not that he would have a chance at that one.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) Jose Abreu is Carlos Quentin 2.0 Exactly. He was hit 198 times in 798 Cuban League games. Hopefully he can avoid injury.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) Abreu's been hit twice this season already He got hit a lot in Cuba.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) Hopefully Robin does away with the bunting. He bunts less than any manager in baseball. Only 2 teams the last 10 years bunted less than the 2013 White Sox.
  25. I like Ventura going out there to talk about the call while someone has a look at it for a possible challenge.
