QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) Between this special and the draft special MLBN pays Harold Reynolds to talk about s*** he barely understands. I'm not watching this, but you could get the same quality of his work on the draft by picking a random Jimmy John's employee to sit in his chair.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) I would go with living months out of a suitcase and always traveling through different time zones but yeah, the staring... I don't know, they barely have to touch their luggage, don't have to fly commercial and have a lot of down time. The staring would bother me, as would answering the same questions over and over again.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) The truth is that teams have no issues taking on contracts in the offseason when they have a clean slate, but they never like to take on money in mid-season deals Yeah, I don't know how much room teams leave in the budget for inseason moves. Boston picked up Peavy, but their purge last year left them with what I assume is a lot of wiggle room. The Dodgers can pick up cash, other than that, it seems it would be tough to move big contracts without taking big contracts back. I read a couple weeks ago, the well is even drying up in Detroit.

The year Nomar got traded to the Cubs, weren't there a bunch of trades announced right at the deadline and after?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) And a dead clock is correct twice a day. Look, if you just rip on every single player we have, you're going to be more correct than not these days. The problem is Greg's rationale for these opinions he has...which is nonsense almost in each and every case. His rationale may not always be correct, none of ours are, but it is exactly what we are seeing on twitter now as to the reason this best bat on the market, an impact bat, better than average defender with a lower than market rate contract, is not all that popular with the rest of the league.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) I'm still going to be surprised if Lindstrom isn't moved. I think he'll be gone eventually, but maybe next month. He's not exactly a "must have" guy, and his last couple outings have been pretty brutal after a really good stretch.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) My favorite part about Rios is that he really brings out the mouth-breather in fans. I can only imagine this must be what it's like to be a Bears fan. If you don't get what you want. Hold on to him and trade him next deadline when he will have more value. I guess you are putting down all those not so high on Alex Rios. If you want to see the true "mouth-breathers" go back to the first few pages of this thread and look at what people thought Rios could bring in a trade. Turns out, once again, Greg was correct. I do agree he could have more value a year from now. He will be playing for a payday.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) If you don't eat the money, I'm not sure you'll find a deal at all. You are probably right, but eating a lot of money isn't going to bring back a future all star. Teams are not dumb. It's harder than ever to pry away their best prospects.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) I thought the whole point of not including money in the Peavy deal was to allow flexibility in our Rios/Ramirez trade possibilities. This just pisses me off if it's actually true. What do they think is more expensive, eating a couple million now or preventing our ability to get better prospects and thus delaying our ability to compete even longer. If you don't eat money, you get the pitching prospects like you got for Peavy. If you do eat $5 million or so you get the equivalent of Simon Castro. I don't blame them for not eating money.

What else would Hahn say? We have to make trades and shed payroll ASAP?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) I'm frankly surprised he's not a Yankee, honestly. You don't think they have any idea how bad he has been this year? Can't hit for average or power, doesn't walk, can't run, can't field. Other than that, teams would love to have him.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:58 PM) Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 1m Sounds like #Rangers aren't interested in Alex Rios. Not sure on #Pirates or #Yankees but wouldn't be surprised if he stays w/ #WhiteSox. Welp I guess Steve Stone goes on some radio show every now and then Roe and Roeper or something, according to a co-worker last week took a nice shot at Rios' effort. I think we are at the point where trading him will cost almost as much as keeping him with little to no return. His reputation is scaring teams away.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) Knobler just tweeted one AL East scout said Detroit made the best deal of the deadline so far getting Iglesias. Take that for what it's worth but I doubt Detroit is upset about filling a dire need with a 23-year old elite defender who still has time to develope the bat. Also whether he is slumping or not, he is hitting over .300 in the bigs this year. I feel like this is a win-win-win without knowing what happens in the future with the pieces involved. The Tigers don't need much offense out of the SS position. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:27 AM) I have been suggesting this for a while. Bucket has solid info, but sources get jumbled and changed in a heartbeat, especially at this time of year. Believing anything anybody says until something is actually going down is silly. I'm pretty sure if any poster really knew such and such was about to happen and was OK posting it, they would post it. I just don't understand asking him or her questions do you think this or that will happen? If they knew and could post it, it would be on here.

I'm still trying to figure out what this bucket character has provided that make people think he has a clue as to what is going on this past month.

Rios may be more attractive a year from now. He will be playing for a contract, will have little time left on this contract, and will probably cost the Sox about the same to pay him until then and have him on the roster that it will cost to dump him now. Unless you are getting a really good prospect, paying a ton of money to make him go away makes little sense unless he is a total drag in the clubhouse.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
Dick Allen replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:17 AM) People were comparing him to MCab the moment he came up. The odds of him ever reaching that level are obviously quite low, but I think I heard that comparison in his first game. They were comparing them because they played for the same team and look alike. When Cabrera was Garcia's age, he had about 70 homers in the major leagues and was already dominating. He may turn out to be a great hitter, but in no way shape or form should anyone expect him to be anywhere near Miguel Cabrera. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:11 AM) If Avisail Garcia turns into Miguel Cabrera with the bat, which frankly he has a shot to do...then Hahn will win executive of the year pretty quick. He won't get it by moving any contract on our roster, we weren't in that bad of shape before moving Peavy, we're in great shape now. The shot Garcia has of turning into Miguel Cabrera with the bat isn't much bigger than that of someone winning the Powerball with record jackpots twice. C'mon man. -
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) The more I think about it, the less I want Tank at 1B. Either keep him out in LF or make him the permanent DH for this team moving forward. He was horrible at 3b (which I know is the hardest infield position to play), but I have a feeling he will be just as bad as Miguel Cabrera over there. Let him continue to improve out in LF for now. At least we know he has a terrific arm and is very capable of throwing guys out. Here is my hope for today and the future! Do whatever it takes to trade Rios and cash for Hansen (Pittsburgh). Trade Alexei today or this winter for some pitching. Having a team looking like this next year wouldn't be bad: RF- A. Garcia CF- De Aza LF- Viciedo 3B- Gillepsie SS- Hanson 2B- Beckham 1B- Dunn C- Phegley DH- FA Signing How is that much better than this year's line up?

The White Sox should ask Paulie if he wants to go someplace else. He has earned it. If Texas or some other contender want him, the Sox, if Paulie wants to go, should make it happen, even if they have to eat everything but the minimum. He probably doesn't because he's the captain and a captain doesn't abandon a sinking ship.

Oh my gosh, they didn't remember Mike Huff

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:21 PM) That only matters if sticking to your guns brings good trade results. On its own, it means nothing. It will pay off in the future. I do think he will trade Peavy. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:13 PM) Scott Merkin says he wouldnt be surprised of Peavy is pitching tomorrow with us blah blah blah....shooting down the rumors I would be shocked but not upset. Hahn will have at least established himself as a guy who sticks to his guns. -

QUOTE (onedude @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:10 PM) Right...it seems like only the ones with connections to the redsox are posting stuff about the Sox willing to come down in their price... The only thing I can think of is if they pull the trigger they want their fanbase to think they waited Hahn out and got him down from his asking price. Other than that, it isn't going to serve any purpose. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:08 PM) Who would those be? The bogus tweests and the fan tweets have been as accurate as the Rosenthals and Olneys. Rosenthal has been particularly poor. Everyone gets used this time of year.although this year it seems there is more BS than ever.
