Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 09:17 AM) To be fair, Paulo Orlando did turn out to be an incredible baseball player. Rogers actually helps rank players for BA. How he got that Orlando was such a stud was from Dave Wilder. They aren't the only team that works that way with BA. It is always a good idea to take BAs rankings with a huge grain of salt. Wilder was using them to cover up his scam, another team may use them for other reasons like to bolster trade value of a prospect or to even knock a player down a peg or two perhaps for motivation. It would be almost impossible to know every player, and the bust rate is far higher than in other sports. Guys like Keith Law have a cult following, but the reality is he is a failed MLB front office guy.

Ventura dispels rumors he wants out
QUOTE (joeynach @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 01:14 AM) Who cares he is a bad manager who makes bad managing decisions. He doesn't value outs. He tries to setup sacrifices by players who can't, he calls for sacrifices when the players coming up have a low propensity to produce the run from the sacrifice (fly ball or base hit), he trots out guys like Nate Jones who have a high propensity to go ball 1,2,3 in bases loaded situations, he still thinks Matt Thornton must be throwing 97 with a 12.0 K/9, he loves to call for steals ahead of players like Dunn who are true three outcome, negating any value in the steal even if they don't get thrown out. I would prefer him to leave and Rick Hahn to hire someone that fits his bill, someone whose attention to detail and modern metrics is superb. Someone who wants to put in the time to follow an organization and developmental protocol and strategy. Like how Theo hired Sveum or how Cherington hired Farrell. When RV leaves I will cheer. Let's see, Ventura is an idiot for putting what was his only lefty in the bullpen into games or Nate Jones. and Theo is a genius because he hired Sveum, a guy who even Cub personnel questioned his overuse of Marmol. Gotcha. What kind of modern metrics tells Sveum to keep sending Edwin Jackson out every 5 days? And ask people in Toronto what they think of Ferell. There's an excellent chance that if the players remained the same, there is no one some here would like as the White Sox manager.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 08:27 PM) If Reinsdorf had a problem with re-hiring Collins there would be no contract offer. Reinsdorf has no beef with Guillen. KW had just as many detractors in the front office, if not more, than Guillen. As far as the Guillen twitter fiasco goes, yes that was bad, but nothing compared to KW hiring his friend (Wilder) who embezzled money from the organization. Reinsdorf had a big beef with Guillen. A huge beef, as loyal as Reinsdorf is, disloyalty is something he does not understand. Not only was Ozzie disloyal not telling Oney to shut up, the way he left and refusing to manage while under contract gives him no shot of ever managing the White Sox again unless they are sold.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) You think my source doesn't know what's going on? To each their own. Don't know who your source is, but can tell you he was really wrong about that one. There's a better chance Adam Dunn leads the AL in hitting than Ozzie ever managing the White Sox again.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) My biggest problem is that it means you aren't doing your job as a sports reporter. I think that is fair.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) It's one thing to get jumped on for an opinion. It's another thing to get jumped on for something you were told. Hahn and Guillen have no beef as difficult as that may be for some here to believe. Just because they didn't have a beef doesn't mean Hahn would consider bringing him back. And he wouldn't have offered Ventura an extension if the story was true as was presnted. The funny thing about this thread and Ozzie, is supposedly one of the beefs Loria had with Ozzie was that he was lazy. Ome unnamed Marlin player did say all Ozzie cares about is money.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 12:58 PM) f*** Phil Rogers and all of the other Chicago writers who don't have the stones to write about anyone when they are relevant. How gutless can you be? I agree with this even though I wasn't a KW fan and have liked Rogers more than most. Bring it up when he goes on vacation, not now.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) Had some interesting stuff from last year that I didn't post because like I said why get jumped on? Haven't been to the park as much this year due to bad weather and a medical issue. Considering a large percentage of your posts are designed to get people to jump on you, i find this post hysterical.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) Oh ok, he went there with her though right? Who knows, but you would imagine so. The thing is how many MLB GMs take a vacation during the season, especially if they are GMing a first place team? KW probably checked out last year. But if Hahn was running the ship and JR approved, it really doesn't matter.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) Didn't hear the interview, but heard some red flags about his work habits last year from my guy. I did not post it here because I knew I'd get jumped on for it. Anyway, when it was announced that Hahn was taking over I figured that was the reason KW was "slacking." Since when has "being jumped" stopped you from posting anything? If this is the same guy telling you Ozzie was coming back, ROTFL. Don't forget, they offered Ventura an extension after that doosy.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
It is the first I have ever heard anything like that. You would think since he had the job 12 years, something would have come out if this is true, much sooner. It could be he became disinterested just near the end. It could all be BS, or KWs Chicago tough routine could have all been false hustle like his false modesty. I would tend to think if he really was what Phil apparently is claiming, it was only near the end. It never seemed like he was lazy, but I also never knew he took a vacation during the season last year either. Anyway, his GM work ethic is no longer an issue. Hopefully Hahn is working on some things.

You're Hahn, who are you looking to trade first?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 01:21 AM) Except the White Sox never have excelled in these trades. What have we got back in return when we dumped Javy or Swisher? Santos? Teahen and Jackson? Quentin? As I said previously, 2010 and 2011 are worlds away from the current market for high ceiling cost-controlled players when there's a cap placed on the June draft as well as signing international players. We can cite Humber, Santos, Quentin, Jenks, Contreras, DeAza, Loaiza, Quintana and MANY others who we've "stolen" from other organizations, but almost no examples where we're trading our older veterans and getting anything of quality back in return, and this goes all the way back to 2001 and 2002. Theoretically, it should be the same principle as a Borchard/Thornton, Gillaspie/Soptic or Marte and Yan for Matt Guerrier deal. But it hasn't worked out that way in reality. So you insist the way to go is dump all your good veterans and play for 2018, then on the other hand say historically the Sox get very little for their veterans. Unlike Marty, I know you actually enjoy when the Sox win. I don't see how this "plan" makes it happen.

You're Hahn, who are you looking to trade first?
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 06:38 PM) If we're selling how are we going to contend next year? You need players people know so that they will watch on tv too. No you need the s***iest roster in the league so you can complain.

What about Ozney?

White Sox draft thread: Day Two
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) It's obvious by the state of the Sox farm system their drafting process is broken. I believe taking a guy like May in the third round is an example of this. Go back to the 3rd round of the 2008 draft. If what you say is proof their process is "broken", there are about 27 or 28 teams right there with them. You want the Sox to totally rebuild, but complain about draft picks you have never seen play, saying someone is not a value pick because he's ranked 200 on someone who is so knowledgable about these things he's not even employed by a team's board. If the White Sox make you so unhappy all the time, why don't you move on. Life is short. You should find something you enjoy.

White Sox draft thread: Day Two
We will never know who they got value for until they actually play for a couple of seasons or more.
-
White Sox draft thread: Day Two
Albert Pujols was the 402nd player selected in the 1999 draft. I'm glad the Sox didn't draft him in the 3rd round. It wouldn't have been a "value" pick.

White Sox draft thread: Day Two
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) Explain the 200th ranked prospect in the 3rd. Who ranked him 200th, and what are his/her credentials?
-
White Sox draft thread: Day Two
I think people get too carried away with rankings. If Law and Mayo had all the answers, they would be running someone's draft. Baseball America uses guys like Phil Rogers to rank guys. Baseball is one sport where individual teams' board vary greatly. If you get one really good player out of a draft and 2 or 3 complementary ones, it's a great draft. For all we know ultimately the best player out of this draft for the White Sox may not have even been selected yet. It does make it fun, but it's really impossible to criticize fairly until a few years from now.

White Sox draft thread: Day Two
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 01:04 PM) Not to be flippant, but the Sox just don't understand the draft process. Chances of 3rd round picks being huge contributors aren't that great. Go back to the 2008 third round. Craig Kimbrel is by far the big prize, then Danny Espinosa, then guys like Morel, Zach Stewart and Tekotte. If your 3rd rounder pans out, you are doing really well. Their past draft record cannot be defended, but really at this point of the draft, these guys are all lottery tickets.

2013 MLB Catch-All thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) That can't be right. Luke Hochevar. Who was that kid that blew his elbow out against the sox last year? Danny Duffy? Should be one start in the majors this season.

White Sox draft day one thread
QUOTE (staxx @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 09:51 AM) Or possibly become one of our starters? We got a kid with good potential, no reason to not give him a chance. He probably is a better choice than Wahl/Ziomek. 94 innings with a zero ERA is unheard of. Hopefully they can sign him and he can develop further. One thing I read once is HS kids who throw 95 usually are throwing 88 in their early 20s. But I don't know how you can not be at least intrigued with this kid.

2013 MLB Catch-All thread
Despite being in rebuilding mode and having very high draft picks for 20 years, and constantly being ranked close to the top minor league systems in baseball the Royals haven't drafted a pitcher who has made at least one major league start this season since 2004.

6-6 Do We Have a Game Today Thread?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) This is the ballgame right here. If DeAza can get on, we have a chance. If he fails, forget it. It'll be 1-2-3. Cmon DeAza. So you're sayin theres a chance.

6-6 Do We Have a Game Today Thread?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 09:42 PM) I'd like to see that strike three pitch again. I swear it was a K. On the pitch trax on the Sox telecast, strike 2 was inside off the plate. Strike 3 was further inside off the plate.
