White Sox vs Cubs analysis
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 31, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) I hope you aren't suggesting that I ever inferred that Gordon Beckham is the savior. I was the first to turn on that bust. Being the first guy on a message board to declare someone sucks is really quite an accomplishment. Congratulations. I'm sure your family is very proud.

Clearly, the reason most of us aren't sitting on $100 million or so right now is because we failed to get the proper coaching growing up.

Dunn?
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 31, 2013 -> 09:04 AM) Phil Rogers also suggests releasing Dunn and trading for Ethier at a reduced rate to replace him. That is absurd. Ethier is locked in until 2017 at $85 million and is strictly a platoon player as well at this point. Phil Rogers being the lead baseball writer for the biggest newspaper in the country's 3rd largest market has been and is a complete joke. He didn't suggest that. He mentioned Eithier was available and wondered if the Dodgers would eat enough money to make the Sox consider picking him up, releasing Dunn and making Viciedo the DH. He also mentioned how paying Eithier through 2017 vs. paying Dunn through next year complicates it even more.

Sox/Cubs series
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 31, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) I did. This series just doesn't mean as much to either side of town as it once did. Sure it's great to have city-bragging rights for a couple of days but then we all have to go back to the reality that we are all watching a couple of 70-85 win teams. I think part of it is the games are during the week, and the Cubs aren't drawing as well as they used to for any team. Even the Cubs are starting to have problems drawing people to watch awful baseball. Obviously, their definition of a poor crowd is very different from others.

Sox/Cubs series
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2013 -> 07:12 AM) Did anyone note that even Wrigley drew under 32k paying fans for each game? I wondered why Caulfied hasn't posted something about the impending doom of the franchise.

Conor Gillaspie is not a good player
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 31, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) Jimmy Butler being a future stud is actually based on visual and statistical evidence, not off a hot April. ok

Conor Gillaspie is not a good player
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 31, 2013 -> 08:40 AM) I'll do that in another thread. This thread is for the hilarity that is SOXTALK MEATHEADS falling in love with Gillaspie over a few hits. Like you and Jimmy Butler. I agree if Gillaspie is considered a building block, that's just crazy at this point, but he has done pretty well up until now. Why don't you let him suck before you declare he sucks? Just saying a guy sucks when he hasn't is probably a more accurate trait of a SOXTALK MEATHEAD.

Juan Francisco!!!
How come if White Sox put up these kind of numbers, the team needs to move on from them as soon as possible, but if he's with another team, he's potentially a great player?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 30, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) I would love if they brought in Matt Silverman from the Rays organization. They just need a clean reboot....fair or not, Hahn's too closely identified with the KW regime. I think if they think Hahn is qualified to be the GM, let him be the GM. Let KW spend his time with his soon to be new wife. If JR wants to give him a golden parachute, good for KW, but his position as not GM but technically Hahn's boss is ridiculous. If he doesn't want to be the GM, get out of the way, and I say that knowing KW has said he would stay out of the way. I just think his being there puts him in the way no matter what.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 30, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) He will do what KW wants. I don't like that dynamic. If you were working for someone for many years and he decides to move on and you get his job, if he is still there and technically your boss even though he insists he won't interfere, and goes to great lengths not do, you have to be affected by his presence.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 30, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) He has future 1b all over him. Perhaps. If they could get him to improve enough where he makes some of the simple plays he screws up, he could be decent in LF. His arm is great for run prevention. The rest of him in the OF is great for run creation.

QUOTE (mike89128 @ May 30, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) Viciendo has been a complete liability since he came back from the DL.This entire team needs a make-over. Actually he was hitting really well right when he came back. He has made some curiously bad defensive plays in LF, but has thrown out a few guys. He's had plenty of being a liability for sure, but it's been a mixed bag since he came back.

I'm glad I didn't go to Wrigley this year. There is nothing more annoying than being at Wrigley when the Cubs are beating anybody, let alone the White Sox. I'd rather go out and listen to Marty for 6 hours.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 30, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) We were just 4 games back from 1st in our division. Your judgement is very cloudy when dealing with the Cubs. Probably, but we are seeing the same things over and over. It may be time to send a message to someone. Anyone.

Rios missed 5 games all of last year, and his second best season in 2007, he missed one. Playing 51 out of 51 is no big deal.

f*** the Cubs official game thread 5/30/13
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 30, 2013 -> 02:26 PM) I am thinking more from a mentality standpoint. The approach to the game this year is 100% different from last. Almost like the team was not ready and maybe Robin was not ready to commit to a season worth of work. I don't know it just seems like what this team did last year it is not doing this year. The focus and possible work-ethic is not there. It was just something that passed through my mind as I watch this. Oh and the fact that Rios and Ramirez have to play every inning of every day because there is no bench whatsoever does not help. It's 50 games in pretty cool overall conditions. If Rios and Ramirez are tired, that's pretty sad. It's baseball, they aren't competing in triathalons every day.

I haven't seen many comments about George Brett taking over as the hitting coach of the Royals. Does this means Moustakis and Hosmer will now be cured? One thing I don't understand about their move is the guys he replaced are being reassigned to the minors. If they are bad enough to be fired, why would you want them messing with your prospects?

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 30, 2013 -> 01:02 PM) Adam Dunn is 1 for his last 27.. Wow It's not that crazy. 6 for 27 is over .200. 1 for 27 for him isn't as much of a slump as it is for everyone else.

Septimo beginning rehab
If the Sox need to count on Septimo, we are all going to need a rehab assignment. Well, almost all of us.

2013 MLB Catch-All thread
considering how successful they have been with developing talent, the Rays have received a lot less production than one would imagine out of their top 8 picks. Most of them were top 4. Hawk still out with sore throat
QUOTE (flavum @ May 30, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) I didn't really watch the 3-inning rain game the other night. Did Hawk sound rough at all? I have noticed Hawk getting some words garbled from time to time this year. I hope he's alright. I didn't hear him on Tuesday, but there is something going around. Whatever it is keeping him away, I hope it's nothing more than a sore throat.

Hawk still out with sore throat
If Hawk was suspended, there is zero reason to keep it a secret.
