  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:16 PM) Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales Danks playing catch again today. When he gets to the towel drill, I'll get excited. I hope he's OK, but I really wonder.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 02:00 PM) Penn Staters are so f***ed up. When those kids grow a little older and hear about what went on there, I wonder what they will think about mom and dad having their picture taken there.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) Regression to the mean, you didnt think he was going to hit 400 all year did you? Moving one of your best hitters for a short period of time is not all that smart or effective. Especially since we have been WINNING games. That's what I don't understand. The team is winning, why mess with a line up that is working? Paulie will bounce back. You put another guy in the 4 hole and move some other players up, that might make them go into a funk.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) You must have very little idea how the trade market works. Normally, you have to give something of value to get something of value in return. Viciedo makes too many outs, has huge holes in his swing and best case scenerio will develop into a 5,6 or 7 hitter. That's your scouting report. How is that giving up something of value? For a guy who loves to tell people they don't know much, you're pretty clueless.
  5. I think the Sox have switched up strategies. Instead of not being mentioned in on any player, they are now mentioned in on almost all. I think the reality is far different. I don't think they are really after Greinke or Dempster, but you might as well boost up the price.
  6. The Sox have the second best record in baseball the past 6 weeks or so. The performance isn't preventing wins. Hawk mentioned a week or so ago his wrists and he did use the plural, were still not right. I also think his has a leg problem. He's slumping, but he'll be fine soon.
  7. I wouldn't bring him back. It was pretty obvious his stay in Boston would be brief. He's out of options, maybe some horrible team will let him play. Maybe Seattle.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) I understand if it's difficult for you to comprehend. LMAO. You're the only one comprehending your ideas. I'm going with the assumption you're just not being serious, because why would you go after Pierre, a banjo hitter who can't play LF when, as you have pointed out, slugging OFs are very easy to find.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) I don't care if it's his first year or fifth year. I also could not care less about his development the rest of this year. A 100+ difference in obp that could be had cheaply is an upgrade worth considering. So you're willing to give up the production and the arm in LF for a best one more time on base per 10 ABs? Your ideas are Pierre and Zambrano and you have a problem with KW?
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) Not nearly as many as Viciedo. This year's LF is better than last year's LF. By far.
  11. Its pretty rare a pitcher has his career year when he's 35. If Dempster pitches 75 innings the rest of the way, if he has a 4.32 ERA, he will equal his career best ERA. I expect a big dropoff.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) Viciedo makes too many outs against RH'ers. If he continues to do so, Pierre's .385 obp is an excellent way to upgrade a weakness cheaply. Juan Pierre makes a ton of outs.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 12:50 PM) Yeah, the Sox have no need for a guy who shut out the Red Sox for 7 innings and the Twins for 8 innings last month. He's been on a roll. I mentioned that. But its like trading for Konerko when he's hitting .399. You know there is going to be a bad streak. I think there are guys out there that will have similar or even better numbers the rest of the way that will cost a lot less to acquire. BTW, the Red Sox there was no DH and I can shut out the Twins.
  14. I know he's been on fire lately, but don't things usually start to even out? Plus moving to the AL. I think there are a lot of red flags with Dempster. I don't think he's the guy the Sox should go after.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 08:07 AM) Forearm or elbow tendonitis, apparently related to his last start before the ASB Sunday against the Yankees. MRI negative, but he's being held back as a precautionary measure (possibly could start Thursday, but doubtful at this point) and is back in Chicago for further tests. Rick Sutcliffe used to say tendonitis is what they say you have when they don't know what's wrong with you.
  16. Santos' initial shoulder diagnosis and progression is eerily similar to Danks'.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 06:07 AM) I still don't see why the marketing team can't do an experiment (just for the 3 game Twins series, it's midweek and one day game) and discount parking down to $10 and see what the difference is in collected revenue. It would have to be a lot better promoted in advance than the dynamic pricing deals, though, to have a measureable effect. MLB Extra Innings is free this week and I was channel surfing Saturday. There is a team that does have free transportation games. They provide free shuttle buses from certain areas and parking is free. They do it a few times a season. It might be worth a try to see what effect parking prices have on attendance. Personally, I think if parking were free, the Sox would make that up and more on concessions and souveniers.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 09:19 PM) A lot of teams are adding "all-you-can-eat" sections. http://athletics.mlb.com/oak/ticketing/jumbo_tickets.jsp Here's an example from the Oakland A's. No reason the Sox couldn't do the same promotion through their own version of Comcast, since they're part owners of it. 19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) Are you sure you'd get 10 starts out of Zambrano? Since May 18th his ERA in the NL is 7.10. And he has Ozzie as his babysitter. I know the tv show and he said he's now mature, but I doubt it. He's going to snap. He may go on a roll or he may be hot garbage. I don't think anyone will touch him and I don't think the Marlins would trade him anyway. They don't want a sign of surrender.
  20. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 08:53 PM) I'm just scared we'd give up to much to get him. If the price is Viciedo I say no way. Someone will give up a prospect the Sox don't have for Dempster. I think KW brings in a guy like Bartolo Colon. Maybe the third time is a charm.
  21. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 01:37 AM) I think that the Bulls having had Michael Jordan play for them may have been both a blessing and a curse. I am wondering if, with the way that the NBA is going right now with your "Big 3/4s" that none of the current stars want to come to Chicago because, in their mind,(and maybe some Bulls fans) the standard is automatically 6 rings. Most think that Jordan is the GOAT. How can you follow that? Whether we want to believe it or not, any Bull is playing in Jordan's shadow until probably 2020 or 2025, when most of the players who were kids in the 90s are out of the league. There may be a hangover a little bit after that due to the aging vets talking about this guy Michael Jordan. I think that Rose's agent is going to convince him to leave after his next contract is up to get a ring. The winters here don't help either. The Bulls are in NBA hell, and they need more star power. That is going to come one of 3 ways: 1. Free agency 2. Lottery picks. 3. Trading Noah/Deng for one. Given that: a) it seems that NBA stars don't want to play for the Bulls and b) a smart GM would rather have cap space and a bad team for his superstar rather then Noah/Deng, I guess tanking is the only way that Forman/Paxon are going to get it done. It seems that these guys are flocking to warm weather cities with no or very little winning history, and it will be interesting what happens to the Lakers when Kobe Bryant retires. If he gets another ring, maybe they stay away from there and go to the Clippers instead, because of their non winning ways up until this point. The way it looks is that Dallas, Miami, Houston, LAC and maybe NY (who hasn't won a title since the early 70s, s,o the first team to bring the Knicks a title may be embraced by NYC, and it is NYC), LAL, (who knows, maybe KB won't scare them off like MJ did for the Bulls) Brooklyn($$$$$ that their owner is willing to throw around) and Boston(because of the winning tradition and the last of those who watched Bird and co. as a kid are exiting the league over the next few years) will be the new powers in the NBA. I have an idea on how to fix the NBA, but I'm not willing to share it quite yet. Quite frankly, If NBA stars continue to go somewhere that isn't a) cold(that isn't NYC/BOS) and b) where they have to follow a winning legacy, then they are spoiled brats and wimps. I don't buy that at all. I do think weather plays a role although NYC isn't exactly balmy in the winter but is usually warmer than Chicago. Plus, there is more going on there. Why would they want to go to LA? First Magic, then Kobe. Why Boston with Bird, then Garnett. The Bulls had Jordan and Pippen, but afterward had the worst 4 year stretch in NBA history. Players have taken their money, they are trying to stay out of the luxury tax. Its some luck and some timing being able to get stars from other teams.
  22. QUOTE (soxmaniac! @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) My bad chief, but it was more of an adjective rather than a nickname. Now apologize to me. I don't know how you can come up with that particular word when the White Sox never made him an offer.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 03:10 PM) Sale has given up 8 hits in 7 innings but what';s is impressive is the no walks. Gotta love this kid. He might be a keeper 8 hits in 7 innings? What happened to his ace "stuff"?
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) Is Floyd hurt? You can't win a division tossing those 3 guys out on the mound. His elbow is swollen, but the MRI showed no damage. I hope JR got a Groupon for MRI's. The Sox seem to be sending someone in for one almost every week.
  25. Axelrod, Humber, Castro, the Sox better win today. Its going to be tough the next 3 days.
