  1. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) So is someone going to make a gamethread? The person who started the last one must start the next one. You must respect the streak. Its the most important message from Bull Durham.
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 10:14 AM) I don't think you can pencil in seasons like this next year from Sale, Peavy, Konerko, and AJ. The Sox have to take advantage of this year. Let me guess, you do this by trading Viciedo, because unlike the rest of Soxtalk and every GM in baseball, you understand that Viciedo really sucks. He's easily replaceable by Dan Johnson or someone of his ilk.
  3. It was garbage time and really hard to judge someone there, good or bad, but he appears to be at the very least Ohman's equal, which means the Sox can't lose on the change.
  4. Everything must have come out OK for Youk, he's back in the line up today: De Aza cf Youkilis 3b Dunn 1b Konerko dh Rios rf Viciedo lf Ramirez ss Flowers c Beckham 2b Peavy p
  5. Youk was swinging like his back was bothering him.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:28 PM) I agree about the 2013 outfield, seems pretty set to me and I think we're better off giving Mitchell a full season at AAA next year. However, I think there's a good chance we trade Rios before the 2014 season. Mitchell should be ready by then or else he's probably flopped out. Plus De Aza will be a 2nd year arb player, so getting Rios' salary off the books would free up some money for De Aza and other needs. As for Thompson & Walker, I don't see either of them challenging for major league jobs before 2015 at the earliest. Honestly, if Mitchell pans out, we most likely won't even have an opening in our OF until 2016. By then Hawkins might be a serious prospect and we won't want to commit to any other young OFs until he is ready. I see both Thompson & Walker being trade bait in the not too distant future. Mitchell would be trade bait if I were the GM. Football players are almost always behind in developing anyway and missing a year hurts that. If Hawkins develops like the Sox think, Mitchell is more than expendable. I would definitely consider trading him for something that gets the Sox into the playoffs.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) in before "23 other teams passed up on Trout as well." The Sox also passed on Pujols several times. The point I'm making is the White Sox and some fans have been using their draft position as an excuse for not developing a lot of good players in the past decade. They have had opportunities to draft a lot of good ones. Of course, the problem could have been in their developmental personnel. Had they had drafted guys like Trout, Pujols, Pedroia (I'm cherrypicking, I know) maybe they don't become the players they became. It does help a team, especially one where payroll is always under discussion, to develop some home grown stars. Maybe the Sox are turning a corner, but if they had Trout and he was as good as he is now, Anthony Rizzo wouldn't be page 5 news. I wonder where he was on the Sox board.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) You mean he becomes qualified for it, right? Because there is no way in hell he has a chance against Mike Trout. If Trout got hurt tomorrow, there would be a shot. What if the Sox drafted Trout instead of Mitchell?
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) Either (A) Crain is going on DL or (B) Humber will be back to take what would be Axelrod's next start, so they are just getting an extra reliever for 4 games since neither Humber nor Axelrod can pitch during that time. I think Crain is going on the DL.
  10. Greg has fully been addicted to Guillen kool aid. Just like Oney and all the others, if Ozzie's team fails, there are fingers to be pointed in every direction except one. Ironically, if you gave him a team with HOFers at every position and they won, the reason would be Ozzie. If Ozzie was half as great and influenced the outcomes of games as much as some believe, there is no way the Marlins would be where they are right now. He was effective when he was about winning. When it became all about money, Ozzie became a below average MLB manager, as the results indicate. Maybe he can get it back, but it would be hard. Once you're stopped taken seriously, its not often anyone, at least players, will reverse that thinking. Ozzie and Ditka are pretty similar.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 06:41 AM) And apparently, Robin never ordered a replacement copy of that manual. Again, Ohman faced a higher percentage of LH hitters this year than any other year in his career. While it would have been ideal Ohman never face RH hitters, it was not practical, except if he was taken off the roster.
  12. Good thing the Sox are playing Tank everyday and not platooning him to boost his trade value.
  13. You get a win with Axelrod starting against the Yankees............it just may be your year.
  14. Huge win. Most of us, if not all, assumed loss.
  15. That's the Andruw Jones I remember.
  16. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) Interesting: substituting Tflo for AJ. Love the look on AJ's face! Yeah, AJ is livid Robin didn't let him go back behind the plate after getting lifted for a pinch runner.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:53 PM) If Wise hurts us here I will be quite sick. He won't. He's leading off.
  18. But a big crooked number............
  19. Everytime Marty mentions dumping Tank, he comes up huge.
