KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) So I assume Bears games will be empty this year? Chris De Luca @ChrisDeLuca $49 for #Bears tailgate parking. Thats for the parking by McCormick Place you hop on a school bus to Soldier Field. If you want to park right by Soldier Field, I think its at least $75.

Best and Worst Sections, value in the park
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) Meh. I was always a fan of the Robert Taylor skyline they had until 2007. Around the 4th of July there usually were a couple of nice fireworks shows inside some Robert Taylor units. Hindsight, but they should have built the park around Roosevelt and the river. There was a ton of vacant land right there.Red Line, Orange Line, Green Line right there. Easy commute from the metra train stations, and nice short trip for people working downtown after work. Could have built a nice riverwalk and had the field open to the skyline. It would have been quite an attraction. That said, the park is very nice, and really nothing to complain about. As far as value goes, if you're there to watch a game, infield upper deck premium boxes are the best deal without codes. That's the best bang for your buck watching a game.

John Danks diagnosed with a grade 1 scapula tear
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 06:53 PM) They haven't been able to find any actual major damage. Exactly what are they supposed to diagnose without it? Whether they can see damage or not, rest isn't working, which would indicate there is some damage IMO. Eventually it gets found. For Danks, the Sox and us, the sooner the better. Injuries aren't always easily spotted on exams. KW called Lorenzo Barcelo a p**** because he wouldn't pitch through some pain and they could find anything wrong with him. Eventually he had elbow and shoulder surgeries.

John Danks diagnosed with a grade 1 scapula tear
I'm no doctor, but the way Danks' shoulder has responded to rest indicates to me there is something more severe than previously thought. This is going nowhere near like we were lead to believe. Its almost time for a towel drill.

Club Level Seating @ The Cell
I had season tickets in the club level sec 329. IMO, the best seats in the park. There is a bar down the LF line. The concourse is heated and air conditioned depending on the weather. They have concession stands and other stands like a dessert cart, but you can order from your seats, you do have a server, and if you plan to be dropping some money, you can run a tab. Its a Levy menu, not Sportservice, so it is a higher quality. One thing I would beware of is if you're going to be drinking beer, the first one of the night is usually pretty flat. I think its probably from the keg from a previous game. I would get a bottle first and then they should be on to the fresh stuff when you are ready for $2.

I'm very upset I didn't get a chance to see Adam Dunn strike out.

2012-2013 NBA thread
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 06:06 PM) I will assume that Asik is not matched and Taj is resigned. He's not gonna get anything more than 8 mill per year, thats worst case scenario. So Bulls stand to have about $21-$24 million off the cap in 2 years? somewhere around there, correct me if I'm wrong The CSN guy said the Bulls are not matching Asik's offer may go after a Nazr Mohammed.

What happened to Cowley
He became irrelevant. Ironic.

White Sox trade Osvaldo Martinez to LAD for cash.
Who would pay for this guy? I bet the Dodgers stop payment before JR gets the check to the bank. Either that or the Dodgers are endorsing an MF Global check over to the Sox.

2012-2013 NBA thread
To me a superstar is a player a ton of people pay specifically to watch play. Durant, Rose, LeBron, Howard are all superstars. MJ was the biggest superstar of all time. How many empty seats did he play in front of?
-
2012-2013 NBA thread
If you trade for Howard and he won't re-sign, the only way he gets to Brooklyn is a sign and trade, so its not like if you roll the dice you'll wind up with nothing.

2012-2013 NBA thread
I still think its nothing but a rumor. I was wondering why Cleveland would actually help facilitate a trade like this. It may be to try to stop LeBron from winning more titles. I still don't think it will happen.

Help me understand the shift.
QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) That's true, they usually pitch him in. Listening to the game on radio however, I've heard D.J. and Farmer describe many of the pitches to him as being outside, or even strikes over the outside half of the plate. Mistakes or not, he seems to be getting plenty of chances to make a point of going the other way, which tells me that he doesn't want to. If he makes contact, generally and hopefully it goes in the air. The shift would be meaningless unless is a pop up foul by the stands on the 3rd base side. I think as more and more info is dissected, more noticeable shifts for almost everyone will become the norm.

Help me understand the shift.
One thing to keep in mind is even if he wants to hit the ball to LF, when there's a radical shift, he's going to be pitched to accordingly. Unless a big mistake is made, he's not going to be given something that can easily be slapped the other way. He can hit the ball to LC very hard, but I don't think he hits ground balls to the left side much. They used to shift for Baines on the infield, but the OF would play him to hit the other way. With the little contact Dunn makes, I think most teams would take a single to LF over a homer.

White Sox may go after Starting Pitching
Jones averages almost a strikeout an inning. If you throw out his performance 2 games against the Cubs and Houston, his ERA is 1.42. I really don't know what people expect. Apparently if you give up a run or don't strike just about everyone out, you have major flaws. There isn't a team in baseball that wouldn't love to have Nate Jones right now.

Humber DL, Fukudome DFA, Bruney recalled
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) QUOTE The Birmingham Barons and Chicago White Sox have announced that RHP Philip Humber will make a rehab start for the Barons during the team's Wednesday, July 11th home game against the Tennessee Smokies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT. Humber would still be on track to start next Tuesday the 17th, as the 5th starter after the break, if it goes well in B'Ham. Yes but it still wouldn't explain why they would go through the KC series a pitcher down. I think Bruney is probably coming back.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
AJP was drafted by the Twins in the 3rd round of the 1994 draft. The first catcher drafted that year was Paul Konerko.

GT: Toronto Blue Jays @ Chicago White Sox
If someone told you in March that Dunn would be hitting .209 with 133 strikeouts 3 innings until the All Star break, I don't think anyone would have pegged him to actually make the All Star team.

Adam Dunn vs. LHP............not good.

I don't think the Sox have had this kind of production from an in season pick up since Charles Johnson.

GT: Toronto Blue Jays @ Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) To put things into perspective a bit: -They just won 5 of their 6 before the ASB against the AL's best and a team that they always lose against. -They finally figured out how to win at home. -This was winnable with Sale on the mound, but him pitching in September is more important than today's game. -They can do no worse than being 3 full games in 1st place past the halfway mark. I have no problem with them skipping Sale today, as long as he also skips the exhibition game on Tuesday. I understand he's going to be throwing anyway, but not at that level. If you're going to rest him, rest him. I guess all the talk that the name of the front of the jersey is more important than the name on the back doesn't apply in this case. I'm just wondering why.

GT: Toronto Blue Jays @ Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) But allowing him to pitch in the ASG makes sense? I'm sure it's going to be great for his elbow when he goes in there throwing 100 mph. It doesn't, but he's got to throw on the side anyway, and its one inning is the reasoning. I do agree with you though, if he's going to rest for the White Sox, he shouldn't be pitching for the AL.

If anyone thought Bud really read Hawk the riot act, considering Hawk is kind of sort of ripping the umps every chance he can get tonight, it appears that beat down wasn't as severe as advertised.
