  1. Jones averages almost a strikeout an inning. If you throw out his performance 2 games against the Cubs and Houston, his ERA is 1.42. I really don't know what people expect. Apparently if you give up a run or don't strike just about everyone out, you have major flaws. There isn't a team in baseball that wouldn't love to have Nate Jones right now.
  2. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) QUOTE The Birmingham Barons and Chicago White Sox have announced that RHP Philip Humber will make a rehab start for the Barons during the team's Wednesday, July 11th home game against the Tennessee Smokies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT. Humber would still be on track to start next Tuesday the 17th, as the 5th starter after the break, if it goes well in B'Ham. Yes but it still wouldn't explain why they would go through the KC series a pitcher down. I think Bruney is probably coming back.
  3. The uniform may change but the story is one I seem to have heard several times before: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...9,0,53153.story
  4. AJP was drafted by the Twins in the 3rd round of the 1994 draft. The first catcher drafted that year was Paul Konerko.
  5. If someone told you in March that Dunn would be hitting .209 with 133 strikeouts 3 innings until the All Star break, I don't think anyone would have pegged him to actually make the All Star team.
  6. Adam Dunn vs. LHP............not good.
  7. I don't think the Sox have had this kind of production from an in season pick up since Charles Johnson.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Because it's throwing 1 inning or so? Yes. And its not a normal inning. He's going to be really jacked up.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) To put things into perspective a bit: -They just won 5 of their 6 before the ASB against the AL's best and a team that they always lose against. -They finally figured out how to win at home. -This was winnable with Sale on the mound, but him pitching in September is more important than today's game. -They can do no worse than being 3 full games in 1st place past the halfway mark. I have no problem with them skipping Sale today, as long as he also skips the exhibition game on Tuesday. I understand he's going to be throwing anyway, but not at that level. If you're going to rest him, rest him. I guess all the talk that the name of the front of the jersey is more important than the name on the back doesn't apply in this case. I'm just wondering why.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) But allowing him to pitch in the ASG makes sense? I'm sure it's going to be great for his elbow when he goes in there throwing 100 mph. It doesn't, but he's got to throw on the side anyway, and its one inning is the reasoning. I do agree with you though, if he's going to rest for the White Sox, he shouldn't be pitching for the AL.
  11. If anyone thought Bud really read Hawk the riot act, considering Hawk is kind of sort of ripping the umps every chance he can get tonight, it appears that beat down wasn't as severe as advertised.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 03:14 PM) I do want to know what radar gun they're using in the minors, as these guys are a good 3-4 mph slower than what they were reported to be throwing. They almost always are. Also consider the gun we see is jacked up as well.
  13. This is the type of crap that happens to most rookies and veterans named Ohman. That's why I hope some guys come back from injury and/or KW gets a veteran for the bullpen.
  14. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) I think I'd rather have Ramon Castro now. Castro must have not have healed correctly. He's cheap, calls a decent game and can pop a homer. Unless he just didn't want to play anymore, its hard to imagine if he was healthy, that he couldn't find a job. I'd imagine he's probably about 40 or 50 lbs. over his playing weight right now.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) I'd still expect him to perform better if given a full time shot...but there's no way that would happen on this team. He'd be better than he is right now, but would still probably be awful.
  16. I don't know why anyone thought Flowers would make much contact in the major leagues. He couldn't make much in AAA.
  17. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 02:58 PM) Anyone have a working stream? Mine's gone kaput. My stream is fine. I'm not that old.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) What's with the old rocker avatars? Geddy is a huge Blue Jays fan. Sits right behind the plate in Toronto.
  19. With all due respect for Hawk, if I had Axelrod's stuff, I'd be a little leery of throwing strikes as well.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) So you only go to watch them if they look like a contenting team? Why is that unique?
  21. Pedroia is hurt, Middlebrooks is hurt. Youk could be helping Boston right now.
  22. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 06:29 PM) I'd want AZ to pay for some of Upton contract. What else do you throw in? I lke Tank a lot myself, but Tank alone doesn't get up Upton.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 06:18 AM) I would trade Floyd for Liriano... Although it probably would be a wiser move to ADD Liriano without subtracting Floyd. The problem is that the Twins don't need Mitchell, they already have Span and Revere, who are similar players. The question is how long they want to hold onto Denard, and whether they believe he's worth the money they will be paying him in arbitration. The next question is what besides Mitchell would it cost to get Liriano for the rest of the season. Probably at least one other piece...they will, like all teams, ask for Nathan Jones and get turned down. So maybe Liriano for Mitchell and Santiago. That would be a trade which accomplishes things for both organizations. The Sox haven't made a trade with Minnesota in over 25 years. I don't think they will start now.
  24. Score some runs for Peavy.
