GT: Houston Astros @ Chicago White Sox
Dick Allen replied to justBLAZE's topic in 2012 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) I know you posted this earlier, but the production from the left side of the infield this season has been astonishingly poor. Since you're not going to permanently replace Alexei, you better be looking for a replacement at 3b. 1 homer all year. That's pretty hard to believe. If someone showed you the stats of the Sox SS and 3B up to this point of the season, I doubt any of us would be thinking they would be anywhere near contending. -

Alexei screws up again. He's a talented guy, but he makes some boneheaded decisions on the baseball field. -

Its really time Ramirez gets with the program. He'll probably snap out of this sometime soon, but he needs to do something different preparing for future seasons. The first third of the season does count in the standings. -

Doesn't look like Gavin has much of a chance at his 20 win goal he set during Spring Training. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 05:12 PM) That was because of the Chris Sale situation. And we wouldn't be in first place or close to it without him. We'd be in full rebuild mode still. They are 4-1 in the games Sale has started since then. 2 wins against LAA and Min they scored 6 runs and another against Seattle they scored 4 , so I would say there's a decent chance they win those. The other against TB was a 2-1 game, so I'm pretty sure, even if you call the Seattle game a loss, they would still be close to first. Try to be more accurate instead of dramatic, you know, pretty much the same thing for which you are ripping McNeil. -

Wandy should be done for the night. The Sox are getting a break here. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) Great, Viciedo hurt? He seemed to have some sort of leg injury when he was on first. Then he was grimmacing. He looked OK running to second, but they may not want to risk it. -

Jordan Danks in LF. Tank seemed a little lame last time on the bases. Hope its nothing that lingers. -

I don't think Dunn has been this trim since his rookie year. -
It must be said - Hawk Harrelson has to go
Dick Allen replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hawk's had a few good lines over the years. A guy broke his bat back when he was with Drysdale and Hawk said he'd have to get a "new piece of ash", Drysdale lost it. The "sacks packed with seamen" was pretty good. Back around 1990 or 1991 the Sox were in Oakland, and they kept showing hot girls in bikinis on the screen. Hawk then says,"I'll tell you one thing about this camera crew in Oakland Wimpy.............best beaver shooters in the league.". Why would anyone want to get rid of his guy? -
QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 04:42 PM) Who are the prospects? Mitchell is playing better, but hasn't he dropped off the top prospect radar? I think it's reasonable to have high expectations for Hawkins, but the rest of the propsects are guys like Jordan Danks, right? Mitchell is still a prospect. Hawkins is going to be one of their highest rated prospects. Viciedo is on the team and a corner OF. I don't think they would mind adding Soler, chances are someone is going to bust, but at what he is going to cost, I don't see it happening unless they are convinced he's better than everyone they have.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN Sources: Next round of bids for Jorge Soler are due this weekend, and right now, the most aggressive teams are Cubs, Yankees, ATL, and LAD. Considering the Sox just drafted Hawkins, I don't see them bidding a ton for Soler.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 03:16 AM) Yeah, EVERY SOX fan knows the downside to this team, we're all just kind of along for the ride as long as it lasts and enjoying the fact that we're playing meaningful games at this point in the season (as opposed to last year)...but it's almost like it was specifically written to rain on everyone's parade. Something about it is just irksome...he did everything but lump in the fact that Courtney Hawkins is going to be a bust and that JR is cheap. It's like what you would expect the callers to Rongey's post-game show would have said the two previous nights. Not sure why they even gave him column space for it. At least Cowley has his agenda and his attempts at humor and he'll throw out something gossip-wise, but this article could have been written better by 85% of the posters at SoxTalk who know the team better than he does. Compared to some of your posts a few weeks ago, McNeil is downright optimistic. You criticize him? Look in the mirror. -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:55 AM) If anything, Peavy was sticking up for Hudson because that's Peavy's ball to catch. Its really never a pitcher's ball to catch. I think AJ was more upset with Hudson for not letting the ball go foul than not making the catch. It was clearly headed foul and never touched.

White Sox draft Courtney Hawkins OF out of Carroll HS (TX)

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 04:49 PM) Kevin Goldstein did a "Projection of category leaders" for 2012 draftees. Basically, which player who was just drafted is the most likely to lead the draft class in each stat....... He picked Courtney Hawkins to lead the 2012 draft class in Homeruns.... Shockingly, Keith Law wonders if he can make enough contact. Physically, Hawkins to me looks like a far more chiseled version of Viciedo. -

As down as people have been on Beckham offensively and as highly regarded offensively Ramirez is, its amazing Ramirez' lifetime OPS is only .024 higher. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 09:57 PM) Yep, the experiment has to end. It's as bad, if not worse, as the Mackowiak in CF experiment. If they want to keep him in Escobar's role and have him play there once in a while, that would be OK. Everyday, its just sad. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) Not knowing the outs and not catching a line drive hit right at you cannot be excused just due to position He's having all kinds of problems reacting in time to anything hit pretty well. -

QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) I don't blame hudson. He isn't a 3B. That's true, he's playing out of position. The Sox with 1 HR out of the left side of their infield so far this season. Ridiculously bad. -
Ozzie Martinez outrighted off of 40 man

Its for Jordan Danks, although they really didn't need the space. Danks is coming up for Fukudome I believe. -

Anyone know why the Sox outrighted Ozzie Martinez tonight to get the 40 man down to 37? He obviously can't hit, but the timing seems curious. I guess Johnson probably is coming up for Fukudome.
