QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 06:50 PM) Yeah if Teahen fired the first shots as it appears, then he gets what he deserves. I can't stand Oney as much as the next guy, but you can't expect a guy to say nothing when you get called out like that. I could see that, but shots at his wife are way out of line. Teahen does have a Jim Thome-like reputation as a person so it would be surprising to me that he would suddenly air some dirty laundry. But I could be wrong. Teahen and his wife did have a scheduled charity event the day he was traded. I wonder if something happened then.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 10:44 PM) I thought we'd trade Thornton to the Rangers, really did. Maybe they realize he's now a bucket of suck and didn't want him? That is possible. Thornton a bucket of suck? Next year when Sale is in the rotation, if the Sox get rid of Thornton, you'll see what suck really is from the left side in the bullpen.

Comparing the attendance figures to Detroit isn't fair. See what Detroit's attendance would be if the costs associated with going to a game were exactly the same.

Kruetz may retire, says it wasn't about the money with the Bears. Seems to me he was hoping for a little more and wanted the Bears to enter a bidding war with themselves. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) That's what I'm saying too though...intangibles really don't do that much if a guy simply doesn't have it any more. Exactly. If his intangibles were so off the charts, why was the line so bad? IMO, Olin was a good player for several years, but his current version won't be missed as dearly as many think. -
I thought the statue looked pretty good up close, but the pose seems to be of him shanking one down the right field line, not drilling the ball somewhere.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) They still pay assloads back to the state of illinois to waste. JR shouldn't pay taxes. He's a job creator.

With the game so long and Dunn and Rios back to back in the 9th, we made our way down the LF line to get a Lance Johnson jump to the Red Line as soon as the final out was recorded. That we did, making our way down the ramp quickly, but who had a better Lance Johnson jump out of USCF than us? It was KW. He had as little faith in his high priced "sluggers" as I did. He does have a sweet silver Benz though. Dealer plates.

QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) Im flying to Chicago tomorrow morning, and am looking at buying tickets for tomorrow night's game online today. Do they still do the half price Mondays? I just looked at the site, and couldnt find a single ticket for under $41, and that was in the upper deck corners. Also, for day-of-game purchases, am I better off buying at the box office or from scalpers? I prefer sitting lower level, and my brother is with me, and we're not looking to spend more than $50 each per night, except tomorrow if halfprice, I will get the best available. Thanks for the help. Welcome to "dynamic pricing". Try stubhub. Its your best bet.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:18 PM) True, but assuming that he'd fetch a better price with less time before FA and more competition is a very poor assumption. it's probably true 1 time out of 30. Not really. Teams have budgets set these days. There may be even a bigger market for him next winter when more teams have available cash. There's only a couple teams on Quentin now.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) One of the many great things about the sport of baseball is that you learn the truth over the course of 162 games. Basketball can be flukey. Football is definitely flukey. Baseball 9 times out of 10 tells you the truth. We're over 100 games into the season and we're still below .500. Yeah, 3 or 4 games back, etc. But there's just no way you can realistically look at this product and think playoff team. No way. Let alone actually doing something were they to back in. For me, I'm no longer waiting for this offense to snap out of it. Four months is enough. The worst possible scenario would be to stand pat, finish 80-82, and go into the offseason with nowhere near the same kinda leverage you have right now with legitimate contenders looking to upgrade. Actually I think its the exact opposite. Basketball and football are far less fluky. The best team usually wins. In baseball with a pitcher, you basically have a different team every day. I've been very frustrated by the Sox this season, but giving up while 3 games behind the Detroit Tigers is cowardly.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) Whatever is being offered for him, it's greater than what would be offered for him if he has to compete with available free agent bats. You don't know that, you assume it.
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) Dude, I see the standings and understand you're point, but this team doesn't have the drive, focus, heart or fundamentals to go ahead and make the playoffs, they have no fight in them Again, they just took 4 out of 5 against DET and CLE and have split the first 2 against BOS. If things are as bad as you say, why do you even pay attention unless misery is something you enjoy?
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) If they can make better deals now, they should do it. This team isn't going to pass the Tigers. ok. They should dump everyone and suck like the Pirates for 20 years.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) Danks, ok, he'll still have value this offseason. Starting pitching isn't available easily on the FA market. A Corner OF bat is something you can get by spending money on the FA market or deciding you can develop one. It's harder to find at the deadline than it is in December. What exactly is being offered for Quentin right now? I'll answer it for you, you have no idea. A lot of BS out there. The Sox will be able to move Quentin in the winter if they chose. Moving him now and not getting back guys that can help you win right away makes no sense for the Sox.
-
All the guys everyone wants traded for prospects can be traded for prospects this winter.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:07 PM) This time we're stepping in a different direction. Forwards rather than back. They just took 4 out of 5 from the teams in front of them and are 1-1 against one of the best teams in baseball and have perhaps their best pitcher going tomorrow. Be real.
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:05 PM) Please don't compare teams, again lay off the kool aid I'm not comparing teams, and not on any kool aid. Read the standings. I know people love A ball prospects, but you don't give up a good chance to win a division by trading guys who can still be traded this winter right now.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) No one, and I mean no one, captured it better than Ed Farmer, with the phrase "Step off the ledge!" Well its time to step off the ledge again.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) This team has to win Sunday to be .500 on August 1st HORRID............put the kool-aid down. I wonder what you were thinking when the Sox 15 game lead went down to 1.5 in 2005.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) Does a lineup with Rios, Pierre, Dunn, Beckham, and Morel/Vizquel scare you? No, but with those guys hitting about as bad if not worse than you could possibly think, they are still right there. Dump all the good players for mediocre minor leaguers and if you think this team is bad, you have not seen anything yet.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 08:58 PM) 3 out of what leading a s*** division and a quick 1st round exit ...........whoopie doopie so what! Danks, Buerhle and either Floyd, Peavy or Humber with a pretty good bullpen. I think the Sox have a decent chance if they make the playoffs. They are 4-1 vs. Boston.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) But they suddenly have the most fragile pitching staff in the AL Central between them, Tigers and Indians. When KW made the Jackson trade, I'm convinced he wanted to throw in the towel. However, in true KW fashion, he switched courses just because a few games. Fister and Jimenez don't scare me and I'm usually pessimistic.

The Red Sox are currently taking BP at USCF and Ozzie is going to waste Thornton.
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) Cause this team has no chance, whoever thinks so needs to lay off the kool-aid They are 3 out with a clean up hitter hitting .160. I'll stick with reality and say they have a shot.
